    Abstract
The strain-induced martensitic transformation greatly affects the plastic behavior of the metastable austenitic stainless steels. The martensitic transformation continuously changes the initially homogeneous material into a strongly heterogeneous bi-phase one. In addition to the hardening behavior, this phenomenon would influence the damage growth and load-carrying capacity of the material during the plastic deformation. In this study, plastic behavior of the material AISI 304 including the hardening and damage growth, has been examined at low temperature; where a high rate of martensitic transformation affects the microstructure strongly. Experimental analysis and microscopic observations...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sasani, Ramtin (Author) ; Fanai, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we review the proof to standardness of Einstein solvamanifolds which is based on some results from Geometric Invariant Theory and stratification of topological spaces. Standardness is a very simple and yet powerful algebraic condition on the lie algebra of a solvmanifold which yields to remarkable existence and uniqueness and obstruction results

    Abstract
In this report, crack-free nanostructured barium titanate thin films are prepared by a sol-gel processing method. Glacial acetic acid, barium acetate, titanium tetraisopropyl alkoxide, 2-propanol and deionized water are used as precursors for preparing stable precursor solution. Then very thin films (thickness=26 nm) are deposited on fused silica substrates. In order to prepare crack-free thin films of BaTiO3, much attention is given to solvent evaporation process and a controlled pre-drying process is developed. It is found that the control of the process, especially in the initial stage of drying process is crucial and important for preparation of the crack-free ultrathin nanostructured...

Effect of brookite presence on nanocrystalline anatase - Rutile phase transformation

    , Article International Journal of Nanotechnology ; Volume 6, Issue 10-11 , 2009 , Pages 961-972 ; 14757435 (ISSN) Mahshid, S ; Askari, M ; Sasani Ghamsari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
TiO2nanocrystals were prepared by hydrolysis and peptisation of titanium isopropoxide under different pH values. The as-prepared powder of very fine anatase crystallites ranges from 8 nm in acidic solution of pH 3 to 10 nm in basic solution of pH 8. Heat treatment of the powders leads to grain growth and anatase - rutile transformation. Experimental results have shown that the anatase to rutile phase transformation in the heat-treated powders depend not only on primary crystallite size but also the presence of brookite phase. It is observed that in the powders with the same size the presence brookite phase would accelerate the anatase to rutile transformation. Furthermore it has been found...

    Abstract
Statistical Process Control (SPC) is an approach that uses statistical techniques to monitor the process. The techniques of quality control are widely used in controlling any kinds of processes. One of these processes is the short processes. In short run processes often do not have enough data in each run to produce good estimates of the process parameters. This will cause the reduction of the performance and efficiency of control charts. A common solution to this problem is considering a single machine or process to produce many different parts, or different products. In this paper a new method based on non-conformity degree and fuzzy membership functions has been developed for controlling...

An Investigation on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Almg6 Alloy-Carbon Nanotube Composite Produced by Accumulated Roll Bonding Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sasani Sarvestani, Farnaz (Author) ; Karimi Taheri, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, the use of high specific strength aluminum alloys in automotive and aerospace industries is in progress due to their energy savings. On the other hand, the carbon nanotubes (CNTs), due to their ultra-high strength and modulus of elasticity, have been considered as an excellent reinforcement for the metal matrix composites used in these industries. For production of these materials, the severe plastic deformation (SPD) has been known as a method of grain refinement to increase the strength and ductility. In this research, the composites of AlMg6 reinforced with CNT were produced by accumulated roll bonding (ARB) known as a SPD technique and their properties were compared...

    Abstract
In this paper, Sugimoto model has been employed to study the nucleation and the growth of TiO2 nanoparticles. On the base of this model some parameters of the nucleation and the growth of nanoparticles such as supply rate of the solute (Q0), molar volume of the solid (Vm), and mean volumic growth rate of the stable nuclei during the nucleation period (v) were determined. For this approach, TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized in two stages in an aqueous solution by using HNO3 and TTIP and TIPO as starting materials. In this experiment, it was obviously observed that the changing of Ti+4concentrations was followed with LaMer diagram. Typical obtained results were v=2.93×102 nm3.s -1 and...

    Abstract
Titanium dioxide nanopowders were synthesized by the diffusion controlled sol-gel process (LaMer model) and characterized by DTA-TG, XRD, and SEM. The prepared TiO 2 nanoparticles have uniform size and morphology, and the phase transformation kinetics of obtained material was studied by interpretation of the X-ray diffraction patterns peaks on the base of Avrami equation. The stating point of anatase-rutile phase transformation temperature in the prepared nanoparticles was found between 100 and 200 C. A decreasing trend on the intensity of X-ray peaks of anatase phase was observed up to 600 C when the presence of the rutile phase became predominant. Results indicated that the transition...

    Abstract
Amorphous barium titanate nanothin films were prepared by sol-gel dip-coating method. According to transmission spectrum, the refractive index and optical band gap of nanothin films have been determined. High transmission spectrum without any fluctuation in visible wavelength region was recorded. Experimental results indicated that the surface morphology of prepared nanothin films were improved and as a result of that, a better optical properties, less optical losses and higher band gap width were obtained in contrast with other reported data. It was found that optical propagation loss of BaTiO3 nanothin film was much lower than normal polycrystalline BaTiO3 thin film. It seems to us that,...

    Abstract
This work aims to develop a chemically modified sol–gel synthesis pathway for obtaining various barium titanate nanostructures. The method is able to prepare different BaTiO3 nanostructures such as highly stable nanoparticle embedded colloids, highly transparent amorphous nanolayers, nanocrystalline BaTiO3 powders and ultrathin BaTiO3 nanostructured films directly from a precursor solution. All the products have been prepared at a lower temperature and in a more cost-effective way in contrast to other established sol–gel methods. The results show that the optical transparency of the thin films has been significantly improved in contrast to the similar researches. The deposited thin film is...

    Abstract
In this research, a modified, cost effective sol-gel procedure applied to synthesize BaTiO3 nanoparticles. XRD and electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) applied for microstructural characterization of powders. The obtained results showed that the type of precursors, their ratio and the hydrolysis conditions had a great effect on time, temperature and therefore the costs of the synthesis process. By selection, utilization of optimized precursor's type, hydrolysis conditions, fine cubic BaTiO3 nanoparticles were synthesized at low temperature and in short time span (1 h calcination at 800 °C). The proposed procedure seems to be more preferable for mass production. The result indicated that the...
