Distance Relay Blocking in Power Restoration

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sebt-Ahmadi, Mohammad (Author) ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Ali (Supervisor) ; Ranjbar, Ali Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
It is possible to unload a transmission line for a while. In line restoration voltage and current of the line will have some dynamic changes. So the apparent impedance of distance relay will have dynamic changes. These changes may cause some bad results including entrance of apparent impedance to the operational zones of distance relay and even relay tripping. Consequently if relay trips, the line restoration process will stop and may not be possible.
So we want an algorithm to distinguish line restoration from short circuit condition and block the relay. This algorithm must be able to stop blocking if there is any fault in the operational zones of the relay.
    In this thesis an...

    Abstract
Electricity generation in vicinity of the load centers seems rather imperative since the costs associated with the reinforcement of new transmission lines are hugely intolerable or maybe this process cannot be practically applicable. There are many means of power generation in addition to the conventional ones among them are solar cells, wind turbines, and thermal units. In this paper, these sources of power generation are involved to manage a power system of an island region. As a consequence, the possibility of exploiting the constructive effects of such green energy resources would be approved. In respect with a reliable system adequacy management, short-term load forecasting (STLF) is...

Design, Prototyping and Testing an Indirect Load Monitoring System for Ball Mills

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Durali, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Ball mills are a category of industrial mills used for crushing and grinding non-metallic materials into powder. In these mills, as the mill rotates, steel balls move and by falling on materials, the process of crushing and grinding takes place. The mismatch between the rotation speed of the mill and the volume of balls inside it can result in ineffective collisions between the balls or between the balls and the inner protective layers of the mill, causing damage to the balls and liners and leading to repair costs and loss of production. The aim of this project is to design and prototype an intelligent system for monitoring the ball mass inside the mill to increase production efficiency and...

Angular dependence of switching field of magnetic recording particles

    , Article Physica B: Condensed Matter ; Volume 321, Issue 1-4 , 2002 , Pages 120-123 ; 09214526 (ISSN) Sebt, A ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2002
    Abstract
In a magnetic recording media, anisotropic particles are placed with different directions in the head field. The switching field, Hs of a particle at a certain direction is defined as the minimum field, which reverses its easy axis magnetization. To determine the position of magnetization transition in recording media, one needs the angular dependence of the switching field. To find this for a texture of anisotropic single domain particles, the acicular iron particles with 0.3 μm length have been grown in a magnetic field. Then, the textures of the particles have been oriented by another magnetic field. We have measured the remanent magnetization of samples mr(θ) and mr(H), respectively, as...

    , Article Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials ; Volume 237, Issue 1 , 2001 , Pages 111-118 ; 03048853 (ISSN) Sebt, A ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2001
    Abstract
In the magnetic recording media the switching field distribution (SFD) is an important micromagnetic characteristic curve. However, in general case, methods of assessing SFD have not presented a reasonable relation between the macroscopic measurements and the microscopic properties of the system. The degree of alignment of particles easy axis in a texture and the angular dependence of switching field are two fundamental factors for the distribution function. A technique for determining the switching field distribution curve due to these factors is reported. This technique is performed for textured iron fine particles and samples of CrO2 and γFe2O3 commercial tapes. The distribution differs...

Optimal Selection of Local Models in Multi-Model Method

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Mahdi (Author) ; Haeri, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many processes and real world systems indicate nonlinear behavior and operate either naturally in multiple regions or in a wide range of operation space. Modelling and control of these systems by nonlinear methods needs to have a deep insight. Furthermore, the nonlinear methods leads to complexity issues. To overcome these problems, multi-model methods are introduced which consist of two steps, decomposition and combination. In decomposition step, the complex system is divided into a set of simple models; in the combination step, the behavior of local models are combined. How to decompose to local models and how to combine them are two main questions in this area which not answered...

Production of Magnesium Nanoparticles by Electromagnetinc Levitation Melting

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Mahdi (Author) ; Halali, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Electromagnetic levitation(EML) provides a process producing nanoparticles using gas condensation method. In gas condensation processes, vapor is produced by heating the sample then inert gas is applied to provide the inert atmosphere and also cool and condense the sample vapor into a nano powder to obtain a sample nanoparticle. In the EML method, rapidly alternating electromagnetic field induces eddy current in the conducting sample which will heat the sample. The current in the sample result in an induced magnetic field. Consequently, the sample droplet is heated and levitated simultaneously by an induction furnace as a generator. The sample temperature is dependent on parameters such as...

Correlation of In-Situ Horizontal Stress and Cone Tip Resistance in Sandy Soils Using Calibration Chamber Test Measurements

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alikahi, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study aims to propose a new correlation between in-situ horizontal stress and cone tip resistance in soils. Knowing the field in-situ stress state condition has an important role in stability assessment and stress-deformation analysis in a common geotechnical system. Although vertical stress could be measured easily, horizontal stress is still known as challenging work. Due to the difficulty in sampling undisturbed sand specimens, in-situ tests have been proposed in the previous literature to investigate the different characteristics of this soil. Cone Penetration Test (CPT) is one of the most used and accepted soil methods for soil investigation, identifying different soil parameters...
