Detection of Change in Nonlinear Profiles using Kriging and Comparison with Self Organizing Clustering Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahlooji, Hashem (Supervisor)
Abstract
Control Charts are the most popular monitoring tools for profiles. The time that a control chart gives an out-of-control signal is not the real time of change. The actual time of change is called the change point. This study suggests two new algorithms to find the change (shift) in parameters of nonlinear profiles. First, using ordinary Kriging method, new points are estimated. Then, with the help of Bernoulli hypothesis test, the probability of detecting the change for new points is tested. Nonlinear profiles in this study follow the exponential family of distributions; in particular, Exponential, Poison and Gaussian distribution structures are used as nonlinear profiles. The proposed...
Modeling of Reactive Crystallization Processes
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
This thesis concerns the modeling of precipitation processes aimed at predicting product particle characteristics especially particle size distribution. A mixing-precipitation model (based on SFM) linked to the population balance is used for a single-feed semi-batch precipitation process to describe the mixing effects on the final particle-size distribution (PSD) and mean size, considering the agglomeration mechanism. The model describes mixing on two zones: the feed and bulk zone with different levels of super saturation. To solve a full population balance equation containing nucleation, growth and agglomeration, discretization method was performed witch is more accurate and low...

Abstract
This paper presents the stability analysis for a single-phase phase-locked loop (PLL) for power systems applications. The dynamical equations of a previously presented single-phase PLL are systematically derived and linearized for design and stability analysis purposes. Based on the linearized model of the PLL, parameters of the loop filter and the PI controller are accurately determined. The main advantages of the PI controller are discussed as well as its design procedure. Moreover, it is shown that, unlike the conventional single-phase PLLs, the mentioned PLL does not suffer from double-frequency ripples. Simulations carried out in MATLAB and SIMULINK verify the performance of the PLL...
Motion Planning & Control of Mobile Robots
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Namvar, Mehrzad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Wheeled mobile robots form a subcategory of mobile robots and are usually accompanied with geometric constraints on their velocities. These constraints do not allow the robots to move in any path that only does not collide with obstacles, in order to move from one point to another. On the other hand, the nonlinear nature of these systems make their control difficult. A general approach in motion planning and control for mobile robots is using standard forms equivalent to their state equations; Usually, solving motion planning and control problems for these forms is easier than that of the original system. Also, the mentioned problems are more prospective to have a systematic solution for...
Modern Approaches to Scattering Amplitude with Applications
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Torabian, Mahdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, we first explain how we can construct three-point amplitudes for both massive and massless particles by solely knowing the Lorentz invariance and spin or helicity of particles. Then, using BCFW recursion relation, we determine the tree-level amplitudes. To calculate the loop amplitude, we apply the unitarity of Smatrix. The unitarity relates the tree-level amplitudes to loop level. Finally, I discuss some exciting topics in this field, including color-kinematics duality, some relevant applications of contemporary S-matrix theory in effective field theories

Abstract
Recent studies suggest that the selectivity filter may exhibit quantum coherence, which could play a role in explaining the processes of ion selection and conduction. As the ion channel system interacts with its environment, it undergoes a decoherence process. In this thesis, the relationship between jump rates and coherence preservation in ion channels is examined initially. To this end, using the Lindblad master equation to describe a three-level system, results are analyzed in different quantum regimes. To directly study coherence in the system, distillable coherence was used as a coherence measure, and the second-order coherence function was calculated. As expected, distillable coherence...

Abstract
There have been many applications for machine learning algorithms in different fields. The importance of hyperparameters for machine learning algorithms is their control over the behaviors of training algorithms and their crucial impact on the performance of machine learning models. Tuning hyperparameters crucially affects the performance of machine learning algorithms, and future advances in this area mainly depend on well-tuned hyperparameters. Nevertheless, the high computational cost involved in evaluating the algorithms in large datasets or complicated models is a significant limitation that causes inefficiency of the tuning process. Besides, increased online applications of machine...
A Robust Simulation Optimization Algorithm using Bayesian Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akhavan Niaki, Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Huge availability of data in last decade has raised the opportunity to use data for decision making. The idea of using existing data to achieve more coherent reality solution has led to a branch of optimization called data-driven optimization. Presence of uncertain variables makes it crucial to design robust optimization methods for this area. On the other hand, in many real-world problems, the closed-form of the objective function is not available and a meta-model based framework is necessary. Motivated by this, we are using a Gaussian process in a Bayesian optimization framework to design a method that is consistent with the data in predefined confidence level. The goodness of the...

Abstract
A heuristic approach is proposed to solve a real Periodic Vehicle Routing Problem (PVRP) that aims at extending the market share with the minimum transportation cost. In PVRP, vehicles are assigned to routes in different workdays to satisfy the frequency of visiting customers. The objective is to determine the scheduling and routing policies of the vehicles to minimise the fleet size and to maximise the selling benefits. The vehicle capacity and the trip time are the main constraints. The proposed approach is verified by real data and obtained results imply a significant improvement as compared to the current status

Abstract
Investigating the protein adhesion properties of polymeric scaffolds through computational simulations can predict the biocompatibility of scaffolds before an experimental assay is carried out. This prediction can be highly beneficial since it can cut costs and the time it takes for experimental assays. The current study aims to test the hypothesis that there is a correlation between the biocompatibility of a composite scaffold and the molecular dynamics simulations of protein adhesion. To this end, chitosan and gelatin were selected for fabricating a composite skin-tissue wound scaffold with five different polymer ratios. This polymeric blend has not been simulated for protein adhesion. The...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nobahari, Hadi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research, multi-disciplinary design optimization (MDO) of a flying vehicle has been done based on the flight simulation. A meta-heuristic algorithm called Multi-objective Adaptive Real-coded Memetic Algorithm (MARCOMA) has been used for optimization. Since solving a MDO problem is a time consuming process, a RBF neural network has been used in the optimization algorithm as a surrogate model. The new algorithm, called MARCOMA+NN, has been tested with some standard benchmarks. MDO problem has six disciplines consists structure, aerodynamic, propulsion, guidance, control, and fire control. The MDO problem has 31 design variables and two objective functions. The objective functions are...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nobahari, Hadi (Supervisor)
Abstract
A cooperative aerial system to defense a Ground Station (GS), against an Incoming aerial Targets (IT) is presented. GS is surrounded by given terrains and a group of homogenous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are employed using a novel online guidance algorithm in a decentralized manner. The proposed algorithm includes loiter, midcourse and terminal phases. During loiter; UAVs follow an optimal circular path. IT is supposed to approach GS along an optimal low altitude trajectory with respect to the terrains. UAVs are informed the initial position and velocity of IT and they are unaware of IT trajectory. Each UAV decides on whether to engage with IT or not, and shares its decision with other...
