Abstract
This article focused on the longitudinal end effect (LEE) in linear variable reluctance (VR) resolvers. The LEE can significantly decrease the accuracy of the linear sensor. Therefore, a novel method based on a magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) model is proposed for accurate modeling of this phenomenon and used in an optimization routine to suppress that. The LEE is modeled by adding three extra permeances into the conventional MEC model without increasing the complexity and simulation time. Besides, the method of calculating these permeances is described. After that, some techniques are presented to decrease the computational burden of the MEC model. Then, the model is used to compensate...
Optimal Design and Performance Analysis of Linear Variable Reluctance Multi-Turn Resolver
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nasiri Gheidari, Zahra (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, with the increasing need of various industries and applications to directly create linear motion, linear resolvers are attracting more attention than ever. Achieving high accuracy as well as measuring absolute position leads to the introduction of a new generation of resolvers, called multi-turn resolvers. Usually, a multi-turn resolver consisted of two individual resolvers in one frame, while using a common core for both resolvers can help to make the multi-turn sensor smaller, cheaper, and lighter. Nevertheless, the studies conducted on linear and multi-turn resolvers are very limited. Therefore, this research proposes an integrated core linear variable reluctance multi-turn...

Abstract
Transferring image sequences requires a very high bit-rate on the communication channels. However, if we want to use telephone lines as the means of communication, the bandwidth constraint problems limit the bit-rates, and the optimal exploitation of link and resource are required. The statistical analysis of video signals indicates that there is a strong correlation both between successive picture frames as well as within the picture elements themselves. Theoretically, decorrelation of these signals can lead to bandwidth compression without significantly affecting image resolution. In this research, in order to reduce bit-rate, we propose a new algorithm using Bilinear Transformation...

, Article Australasian Journal of Combinatorics ; Volume 45 , 2009 , Pages 67-72 ; 10344942 (ISSN) ; Jamaali, M ; Mahmoody, A ; Seyed Fakhari, A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Let G be a simple graph of order n and size m which is not a tree. If ℓ; ≤ 3 is a natural number and the length of every cycle of G is divisible by ℓ, then m ≤l/l-2 (n -2), and the equality holds if and only if the following hold: (i) ℓ is odd and G is a cycle of order ℓ or (ii) ℓ is even and G is a generalized 6>-graph with paths of length |l/2 It is shown that for a (0 mod ℓ)-cycle graph, m/n < l/l-1 if ℓ is odd, and for a given e > 0, there exists a (0 mod ℓ)-cycle graph G with m/n > l/l-2 - e. Also m/n > l/l-2 if ℓ is even, and for a given e > 0, there exists a (0 mod ℓ)-cycle graph G with m/n l/l-2-e

Abstract
The consolidation behavior of composite powders during pressure cycling at room temperature in uniaxial compaction experiments was studied and compared with monotonic compaction. Aluminum and various amounts of SiC powders (up to 50 vol%) were used to investigate the effect of hard reinforcement particle on the densification of soft aluminum matrix. The cyclic compaction was carried out at various pressure amplitudes, ranges from 90 to 360 MPa, at the frequency of 1 Hz. The pressure cycling was continued up to 5000 cycle, in which, the rate of consolidation was found to be fairly low. The consolidation of the composite powders under different loading modes was analyzed through...

Abstract
Let δ be a (d-1)-dimensional simplicial complex and let h(δ)=(h0,h1,...,hd) be its h-vector. A recent result of Murai and Terai guarantees that if δ satisfies Serre's condition (Sr), then (h0,h1,...,hr) is an M-vector and hr+hr+1+...+hd is nonnegative. In this article, we extend the result of Murai and Terai by giving r extra necessary conditions. More precisely, we prove that if δ satisfies Serre's condition (Sr), then iihr+i+1ihr+1+...+i+d-rihd, 0≤i≤r≤d, are all nonnegative

Abstract
For many years, entrepreneurs were considered the change agents of their societies. They use their initiative and innovative minds to solve problems and create value. In the aftermath of the digital transformation era, a new group of entrepreneurs have emerged who are called transformational entrepreneurs. They use various digital platforms to create value. Surprisingly, despite their importance, they have not been sufficiently investigated. Therefore, this research scrutinizes the elements affecting transformational entrepreneurship in digital platforms. To do so, the authors have considered a two-phase method. First, interpretive structural modeling (ISM) and Matrices d’Impacts Croises...

Abstract
This paper is concerned with estimation and stability of control systems over communication links subject to limited capacity, power constraint, fading, noisy feedback, and different transmission rate rather than system sampling rate. A key issue addressed in this paper is that in the presence of noisy feedback associated with channel, which models transmission of finite number of bits over such links as is the case in most practical scenarios, the well-known eigenvalues rate condition is still a tight bound for stability. Based on an information theoretic analysis, necessary conditions are derived for stability of discrete-time linear control systems via the distant controller in the mean...

Abstract
This article addresses the stabilization of noiseless nonlinear dynamic systems over limited capacity communication channels. It is shown that the stability of nonlinear dynamic systems over memory-less communication channels implies an inequality condition between the Shannon channel capacity and the summation of the positive equilibrium Lyapunov exponents of the dynamic system or, equivalently, the logarithms of the magnitude of the unstable eigenvalues of system Jacobian. Furthermore, we propose an encoder, decoder, and a controller to prove that scalar nonlinear dynamic systems are stabilizable under the aforementioned inequality condition over the digital noiseless and the packet...

Abstract
Let F be a field, char (F) ≠ 2, and S ⊆ GLn (F), where n is a positive integer. In this paper we show that if for every distinct elements x, y ∈ S, x + y is singular, then S is finite. We conjecture that this result is true if one replaces field with a division ring. © 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

Abstract
In this paper, the metric theory of Diophantine approximation associated with mixed type small linear forms is investigated. We prove Khintchine–Groshev type theorems for both the real and complex number systems. The motivation for these metrical results comes from their applications in signal processing. One such application is discussed explicitly. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020
Mechanical induced reaction in Al-CuO system for in-situ fabrication of Al based nanocomposites
, Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 465, Issue 1-2 , 2008 , Pages 151-156 ; 09258388 (ISSN) ; Simchi, A ; Seyed Reihani, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Gradual chemical (displacement) reaction between CuO and Al powders during high-energy attrition milling under a high purity argon atmosphere was studied. Differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques were employed to study the solid-state reaction. It was shown that the solid-state reaction occurred during mechanical alloying (MA) and resulted in the dissolution of copper into the aluminum lattice and formation of nanometric alumina particles. The reinforcement particles were mostly distributed at the grain boundaries of Al matrix with an average crystallite size of about 50 nm. In DTA curve of the milled powders, a small...
Investigation on friction stir lap welding of aluminium to aluminium clad steel sheets
, Article Science and Technology of Welding and Joining ; Volume 17, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 231-236 ; 13621718 (ISSN) ; Kokabi, A. H ; Seyed Reihani, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this work, the feasibility of friction stir lap welding an aluminium alloy (Al-5083) to the aluminium clad steel sheet was studied. The welded joints were characterised by various methods including shear-tensile test and optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results indicated that sound and defect free joints were obtained. The fracture loads of the samples reached up to 94% compared with that of the steel base metal. Moreover, the joint strength linearly increased with the decrease in thickness of the aluminium layer roll bonded on the steel sheet. It was also shown that welding rotation and travel speed variation did not considerably impact the fracture loads in the...

Abstract
Al-1100/St-12 aluminum clad steel sheets were produced using roll bonding process at different reductions in thickness and with various supplemental annealing treatments. Experiments were conducted by applying the Taguchi method to obtain optimum condition for maximizing the joint strength. The joint strengths of the bi-layer sheets were evaluated by peel test. The Al/Fe intermetallic phases at the joint interface and the peeled surfaces were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and Vickers microhardness test were performed to characterize the intermetallic compounds. The results indicate that at the optimum condition of 0.50 reduction in...

Abstract
Copper-graphite composites which have low friction coefficient can be used as bearing materials in lieu of materials containing lead which cause environmental problems. So far, some methods such as powder metallurgy and centrifugal casting have been employed to produce these composites. In this study, friction stir processing (FSP) was used to produce copper-graphite surface composites. Five tools with different pin profile were employed in order to achieve a comprehensive dispersion. Results show that the tool with triangular pin gives rise to a better dispersion of graphite particles. Furthermore, four copper-graphite composites containing different graphite content were prepared using...

Abstract
A commercial gas-atomized aluminum powder was mechanically milled in a planetary ball mill under an argon atmosphere for 12 h to produce alumina dispersion strengthened aluminum powder. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that about 2 vol.% alumina particles with an average size of 100 nm were distributed in the aluminum matrix. The nanocomposite powder was canned in an aluminum container, vacuum de-gassed, and hot extruded at 723 K at an extrusion ratio of 16:1. The creep behavior of the extruded billet in the direction of extrusion was examined at a constant applied load ranging from 10 to 40 MPa at temperatures of 648, 673 and 723 K. A threshold creep-stress was noticed which...

Abstract
Preparation, characterization and evaluation of new generation of micro-filters based on polyacrylonitrile electrospun nanofiberous membrane (ENM) were thoroughly investigated. First, quantitative relationships between average diameter, bead area density of nano-fibers and certain electrospinning parameters, i.e., concentration, voltage, spinning distance, and feed rate, were established by empirical modeling based on a central composite design. The analysis revealed that concentration, voltage and distance are the significant parameters. Also, adequacy checking indicated the appropriateness of fit for the models. Afterwards, bead-free ENMs with diameter of 100-500 nm were prepared and...

Abstract
The creep behavior of particulate Al-5vol.% SiC composite was investigated. The composite powder was produced by mechanical milling and hot extruded at 450°C at the ratio of 16:1. A creep test was carried out at a constant load at 598, 648, and 673 K. Using the existing equations proposed for the steady-state creep of metals, the threshold stress and the stress exponent of the creep as a function of temperature were determined. The stress exponent was found to be 3 at the temperature of 673 K and 8 at the lower temperatures, i.e. 598 and 648 K. The dependency of the threshold stress to temperature obeys the Arrhenius relationship with the energy term of 29 kJ mole-1
