MIMO radar beamforming using orthogonal decomposition of correlation matrix

    , Article Circuits, Systems, and Signal Processing ; Volume 32, Issue 4 , 2013 , Pages 1791-1809 ; 0278081X (ISSN) Shadi, K ; Behnia, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
MIMO radar is the next generation radar which transmits arbitrary waveforms at each one of its apertures. It has been shown that the design of waveforms for MIMO radars in order to synthesize a desired spatial beampattern is mapped into a waveform correlation matrix R design in the narrowband case. As of now, given a desired beampattern or estimated locations information of targets, calculating R has been modeled as an optimization problem like semi-definite programming. Also, in some special cases like rectangular beampattern, closed-form solutions for R has been proposed. In this paper, we introduce a fast algorithm which is capable of designing R in order to achieve more arbitrary...

    Abstract
MIMO radar is the next generation radar which transmits arbitrary waveforms at each one of its apertures. It has been shown that design of waveforms for MIMO radars in order to synthesize a desired spatial beampattern is mapped into a waveform correlation matrix (R) design in the narrowband case. Searching for desired R has been modeled as a convex optimization problem which demands considerable processing power. There are also some close form solutions for special cases like rectangular beampatterns. Here we deal with the problem from a matrix eigenvalue theory perspective and show how close form solutions can be found for more general cases relaxing high computational power demand. Our...

    MIMO Radars Waveform Design

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shadi, Kamal (Author) ; Behnia, F (Supervisor)
    Abstract
MIMO radar is a next generation radar which transmits arbitrary waveforms at each one of its apertures. It has been shown that design of waveforms for MIMO radars in order to synthesize a desired spatial beampattern, is mapped into a waveform correlation matrix (R) design in the narrowband case. Therefore, waveform design in MIMO radar for beamforming could be broken into two steps, namely correlation matrix design and waveform synthesis for achieving given R. As of now, given a desired beampattern or estimated location information of targets, calculating R has been modeled as an optimization problem like SDP. Also, in some special cases like rectangular beampattern, close form solutions for...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Heydarian, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Fazli, Mohammad Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Based on fog computing paradigm, new applications have become feasible through the use of hardware capabilities of smart phones. Many of these applications require a vast amount of computing and real-time execution should be guaranteed. Based on fog computing, in order to solve these problems in is necessary to offload heavy computing to servers with adequate hardware capabilities. On the other side, the offloading process causes time overhead and endangers the real-timeliness of the application. Also, because of the limited battery capacity of the handheld devices, energy consumption is very important and should be minimized. The usual proposed solution for this problem is to refactor the...

Developing Dynamic Increasing Amplitude and Period (DIAP)Method for Evaluation of Offshore Structures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jahanmard, Vahid Reza (Author) ; Tabeshpour, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Dastan Diznab, Mohammad Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this study, Wave Endurance Time (WET) is introduced as an applicable method for assessment of offshore structures under extreme waves. In this method, artificial records called Wave Functions (WFs) are used instead of usual extreme wave records. WFs are designed so that their excitations gradually increase with time. Therefore, one WF can be replaced by a large number of sea surface records with different excitation levels. The main advantage of proposed method is that it assesses the structural performance under various extreme waves with low computational cost especially in comparison with three-hour simulasions. Moreover, reliability of structures can be evaluated based on the time...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Dastan Diznab, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Seif, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor) ; Mehdigholi, Hamid (Supervisor) ; Tabeshpour, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, multi-degree-of-freedom and finite element methods are utilized to simulate the dynamic behavior of fixed offshore structures under the wave and the earthquake excitations. In the field of seismic loading, seismic response of the platform is determined with the response spectrum analysis (RSA), time history analysis (THA) and endurance time (ET) methods. The accuracy and the computational cost of the ET method are compared with the RSA and THA methods. The results indicate that despite the RSA method, the ET method can estimate the nonlinear behavior of these types of structures. Moreover, in comparison with the THA method, the computational burden decreases to about 5% while...

    Representation Learning for Dynamic Graphs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Loghmani, Erfan (Author) ; Fazli, Mohammad Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Representation learning methods on graphs have enabled using machine learning methods on graphs' discrete structure by transferring them to a continuous domain. As graphs' structures are not always static and may evolve through time, dynamic representation learning methods have recently gained scholars' attention. Several methods have been proposed to enable the model to update the embeddings graph changes, or new interactions happen between nodes. These online methods could significantly reduce the learning time by refreshing the model as the changes occur, so we don't need to retrain the model with the complete graph information. Moreover, by using the temporal information of interactions,...
