Inverse Problems and Solution Methods for a Class of Nonlinear Complementarity Problems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahdavi Amiri, Nezameddin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Motivated by the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions for a sort of quadratic programs, we first discuss a class of nonlinear complementarity problems (NCPs). Then, we explain a kind of inverse problems of the NCP for a given feasible decision , and we characterize the set of parameter values for which there exists a point such that ( , ) forms a solution of the NCP and require the parameter values to be adjusted as little as possible. This leads to an inverse optimization problem. In particular, under , and Frobenius norms as well as affine maps, we discuss three simple and efficient solution methods recently introduced in the literature, for the inverse NCPs. Finally, some...
Blood Pressure Estimation from PPG Signal Using Dynamic Time Warping Based Methods
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mohammadzade, Narjes alhoda (Supervisor) ; Behrozi, Hamid (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
By continuously measuring blood pressure, we can prevent the irreversible effects of high blood pressure. With the traditional method of using a cuff, it is not possible to measure blood pressure continuously during the day, so for continuous monitoring of blood pressure, it is necessary to use a method without the need for a cuff. Based on previous studies, to estimate blood pressure, Photoplethysmogram and ECG signal features, or temporal and morphological features of Photoplethysmogram signal have been used. In methods that use ECG signals, signal recording is difficult, and methods that use both PPG and ECG signals are even more complex. Using only PPG signals also has its problems....

Abstract
Data are presented on the solidification of aluminum alloys and their macro segregation behavior. Three alloys with different solidification ranges were prepared in two temperatures. Two types of molds were also prepared by sand and metallic materials. The solidification of Al alloys were studied and the effects of four parameters were determined, including cooling rate, casting temperature, degassing and nucleation effects on solidification and a comparison was conducted to Scheil model performance. Three types of aluminum alloys (Al-12.1%Si, Al-6.9%Si and Al-4.4% Cu) with short, medium and wide solidification ranges were studied and the results showed that degassing, nucleation, increasing...

Abstract
A new model is developed for the structure of nanocrystalline materials. Based on the developed model, a new approach for investigating the effect of grain size on the elastic moduli of nanocrystalline materials is introduced. The predictions of the model are strongly correlated with the experimental results reported in the existing literature
Adding backlash to the connection elements can improve the performance of a robotic exoskeleton

Abstract
Kinematic mismatch between exoskeletons and human body results in excess internal forces/torques and hence discomfort as well as increase the power consumption. The connection stiffness has been shown to have potentials for minimizing the kinematic mismatch effects. However, realization of a desired stiffness in the connection element seems difficult if not impractical. In this work, adding controlled backlash to the exoskeleton-body connection is investigated as a possible solution for the kinematic mismatch challenge. A stiffness model which includes backlash parameters was formulated and identified experimentally using three male subjects on a typical lower extremity exoskeleton. A...

Abstract
Network marketing is a business model that depends upon a network of distributors for growth, such as in multilevel marketing. A direct selling method features independent agents that make up a distribution network for goods and services. This paper provides a framework to study the network marketing by adopting the traditional channel. To motivate all distributers in network marketing as well as retailers, it is required to design a well-balanced distribution and pricing system. The allocated commission for distributers in different layers of network marketing is part of pricing system, which is vital. In this paper, we develop an approach to determine all elements of system, including...
The Concept of Truth in Husserl’s Phenomenology
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rashidian, Abdolkarim (Supervisor)
Abstract
Concept of Truth is the most fundamental concept in any intellectual activity. Knowledge systems are distinguished, above all, by their different viewpoint about truth and different criteria which they present for determining truth. Phenomenology, that its motto is returning to things as such, should introduce a definition of truth free from the presuppositions which lie in the definitions (implied or expressed ones) of it in most knowledge systems. In this project, we try to clarify concept of truth as correlation of transcendental act in philosophy of Husserl, and also study antecedents and consequents of this conception. In this project we investigate the place of the idea of “truth” in...
On Some Pancyclicity Properties of OTIS Network
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movaghar, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
A parallel computer system is composed of a collection of processors used to speed up running a program or performance of multiple programs. If we consider the processors as nodes and the channels between processors as edges, the constructed graph represents an interconnection networks. Network topology affects performance and energy consumption of interconnection network very much. Some parameters of topology quality are low node degree and diameter, high connectivity degree and bisection width and symmetry. Since some of these parameters are in contrast with others, a network with more parameter improvements, is more desirable. Finding cycles with specific length and particularly ...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Behrouzi, Hamid (Supervisor) ; Mohammadzadeh, Narjes Alhoda (Co-Supervisor) ; Kazemi, Reza (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
The purpose of ranking Persian web pages is to retrieve the highest number of relevant documents related to the search query of Persian language users, with the minimum number of documents returned from the web. Information retrieval is one of the key issues in search engines. In this study, billions of documents were collected from Persian web pages, and due to infrastructure limitations, a few hundred million documents were indexed in a database like Elastic. Now, considering the user’s actual query, relevant documents should be retrieved from the indexed documents. To achieve this goal, a large Persian language model was needed. Existing large language models for Persian were not usable...

Abstract
Standpoints about atrium design have been revolutionized. Nowadays, design of atrium is not only for shine of light, but is also for natural ventilation as well. In high rise building, residents have not a same advantage of buoyancy-driven ventilation that arising from existence of atrium. One strategy to more equalize ventilation and thermal comfort in different levels, is designing building with various opening area in different heights. Present study aims to overcome the problem by changing the atrium shape. Thus, the atrium's wall angularity is changed in different case studies and these shapes are compared with each other in order to find the relations between atrium wall angularity and...
Design and Analysis of the Connection Mechanics in Robotic Exoskeletons to Improve the Kinematic Compliance with User’s Anatomy
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Behzadipour, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
User comfort in wearable robots and precise limb tracking of the robots' links can be considered as general and significant indicators of the robots' performance. On the other hand, due to the kinematic mismatches between the human body and conventional wearable robots, which often occur due to various reasons such as the kinematic differences between the body and robot joints (e.g. the knee joint), it seems unlikely to achieve a robot in which user's limbs comfortably follow its link without tracking error. In this study, in order to evaluate and improve the performance of the robot, two performance indices: limbs tracking error index (TEI) and user discomfort index (DI) were introduced,...
A new model for inverse Hall-Petch relation of nanocrystalline materials
, Article Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance ; Volume 17, Issue 5 , 2008 , Pages 662-666 ; 10599495 (ISSN) ; Dehghani, K ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In the present article, a new model for inverse Hall-Petch relation in nanocrystalline materials has been proposed. It is assumed that lattice distortion along grain boundaries can cause internal stresses and high internal stresses along grain boundaries can promote the grain boundary yielding. The designed model was then verified using the nanocrystalline-copper data. The minimum grain size for inverse Hall-Petch relation is determined to be about 11 nm for Cu. © 2008 ASM International

Abstract
In many uranium mines such as gachin-bandarabbas, use sulfuric acid for leaching operation on ore. This leach liquor, containing uranium, is extracted by organic solvent, such as D2EHPA (dapex process ).althogh this process have being used for many years, there is a vacancy for detailed thermodynamical studying on uranium extraction of uranium from leach liquor. To have a thermodynamical model, we need information on equilibrium concentration of all component that may have effect on uranium extraction in addition we need concentration of solvent , pH, phase ratio and activity coefficient.such a model must have the ability to predict the equilibrium concentration in alloperation condition....
Estimating time-dependent origin-destination demand from traffic counts: Extended gradient method

Abstract
Time-dependent origin-destination (TDOD) demand is a key input of dynamic traffic assignment (DTA) in advanced traffic management systems. Model reliability is highly dependent on the accuracy of this information. One method to achieve TDOD demand matrices is to use a primary demand matrix and traffic volume counts in some links of a network. This paper proposes a bi-level model to correct the TDOD demand matrix. The extended gradient method (EGM) - an iterative method that minimizes the discrepancy between the counted and estimated traffic volumes - is a suggested means to solve this problem. The methodology is first tested on a small synthetic network to verify its performance. Then, it is...

Abstract
The equilibrium crystal structure and electronic structure of BaFe2-x Cox As2 (x = 0,1, 2) superconductor have been investigated by using the pseudopotential Quantum Espresso code based on the ab initio density functional theory in the generalized gradient approximation. The equilibrium crystal structure for x = 1.0 has been determined by considering five different Fe/Co configurations. This study shows that the spin calculation is essential to obtain the experimental values at x = 0.0. The total and partial density of states, band structure, and Fermi surfaces of the three compounds has been calculated. Density of states calculation indicates the important...

An energy-system model is used as a tool for the assessment and prioritization of new energy technologies. Based on the results of the...
Prediction of Stock Market Based on Corporate Financial Reports Using Deep Learning
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sameti, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Creating tools for automating trade or creating advisory tools have great importance for stock markets. Regarding stock markets, information varies in type e.g. financial disclosures, news, price history, audit reports, etc. Aforementioned information and data's variance, volume, and the high number of factors affecting the stock price, make the stock market hard to predict all together. Therefore, predictions are usually limited to a subset of data. The goal of this research is to take advantage of the newest language processing techniques in order to analyze financial disclosure documents and predict their effect on their related stock price. Financial disclosures usually have a longer...
Stock Market Prediction Using Deep Learning based on Social Networks Data
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sameti, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Stock market prediction has always been a challenging task. Due to its stochastic nature, naive models cannot help solve the problem. In the past, Statistical models were used, however nowa- days with the rise of deep learning and more complex models, aggregating data, in order to pre- dict the stock price, has become feasible. Moreover, the emergence of social networks enables researchers to design models for stock prediction.Researchers used recurrent networks and word vector representations to solve this problem. However, recently newer models such as generative models based on VAEs and attention have gained interest. Newer models also don’t rely on a single data source and use multiple...

Abstract
In this paper, a new on-line handwritten signature verification system using Hidden Markov Model (HMM) is presented. The proposed system segments each signature based on its perceptually important points and then computes for each segment a number of features that are scale and displacement invariant. The resulted sequence is then used for training an HMM to achieve signature verification. Our database includes 622 genuine signatures and 1010 forgery signatures that were collected from a population of 69 human subjects. Our verification system has achieved a false acceptance rate (FAR) of 4% and a false rejection rate (FRR) of 12%. © 2003 IEEE
