Abstract
This paper focuses on multi-objective optimisation (MOO) to optimise the planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stacks performance using a genetic algorithm. MOO problem does not have a single solution, but a complete Pareto curve, which involves the optional representation of possible compromise solutions. Here, two pairs of different objectives are considered as distinguished strategies. Optimisation of the first strategy predicts a maximum power output of 108.33 kW at a breakeven per-unit energy cost of 0.51 $/kWh and minimum breakeven per-unit energy cost of 0.30 $/kWh at a power of 42.18 kW. In the second strategy, maximum efficiency of 63.93%at a breakeven per-unit energy cost of 0.42...

Abstract
In the context of stationary power generation, fuel cell based systems are being predicted as a valuable option to tabernacle the thermodynamic cycle based power plants. In this paper, multi objective optimization approach is used to optimize the planer solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stacks performance using genetic algorithm technique. Multi objective optimization generates the most attractive operating conditions of a SOFC system. This allows performing the optimization of the system regarding to two different objectives. Two pairs of different objectives are considered in this paper as distinguished strategies. In the first strategy, minimization of the breakeven per-unit energy cost...

Abstract
In this project, multi objective optimization (MOO) approach is used to optimize the SOFC/MGT integrated system performance in two strategies. In order to improve the performance and increase of Micro Gas Turbine (MGT) efficiency, it can be combined with Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) which it has high operating temperature. The multi-objective optimisation method used allows to generate Pareto curves that represent the trade-off between conflicting thermo-economic objectives of SOFC/MGT integrated system, like, electrical efficiency, output power and electricity cost. The results of the thermo-economic optimization offer a basis for decision making and engineering improvement. SOFC capacity...

The proposed methodology is generally presented by providing a connection between the three specified optimization levels: 1) Planning: including design and long-term optimization models which is performed before system operation, 2) Real-time operation: By employing the receding horizon optimization which is applied from the...
Design and Prototyping of a Fast Acting Gyroscopic Actuator for Vehicle Stability Applications
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Durali, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Cars with high center of gravity, such as SUV-Sport Utility Vehicles- have high tendency to roll over in high speeds and rapid maneuvers. An idea formerly proposed is to use a high speed rotating disc like a gyroscope on the onset of the rollover to exert a high stabilizing moment on the vehicle, and consequently prevent rollovers. Also using two counter rotating discs with opposite nutation will prevent interference with the car other degrees of freedom. To reduce the interference of the spinning discs with the vehicle dynamics, the discs are to be brought to speed by the action of a high accelerating mechanism during the rollover process(similar to the action of an airbag). This project...
The Effect of Compatibilizer and Short Glass Fiber on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of PBT/PC Blend
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research, we studied the effect of compatibilizer and short glass fiber on microstructure and mechanical properties of PBT/PC blends. Fisrt, Antioxidants and sodium pyrophosphate dibasic were used to suppress transesterification in PBT/PC Blend. The results showed that best composition occur when both of them are used. In the next step, we used 3%wt MBS (methyl methacrylate-butadiene-styrene) and saw that this weight percent of this compatibilizer doesn’t useful. Moreover addition of short glass fiber to PBT/PC was examined and the results showed that mechanical properties of composite are extensively increased. Also in this step, we proved this idea that we can replace some of PBT...

Abstract
Identification of dust storm hotspots using high resolution 1 km MODIS Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) data obtained by MAIAC algorithm for a region including Iran and its neighbors, is one of the objectives of the present study. By implementing three important statistics on AOD and averaging over the last decade time period (2009-2019), dust sources of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Afghanistan, and Pakistan were specified. These statistics include frequency of occurrence AOD>0.3, mean and coefficient of variation of aerosol optical depth. The membership rank of source zones in the set of hotspot areas has been obtained by applying the fuzzy logic approach on the three mentioned layers....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Habibi, Jafar (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, a method for predicting software defects in object-oriented web applications using deep learning is presented. Due to the increasing complexity of web-based software, such as e-commerce systems and financial businesses, maintaining the quality and reliability of these programs is of great importance. Software defects in such environments can lead to security problems, financial losses and loss of reputation of organizations. Therefore, an efficient method to predict and identify defects in the early stages of software development can help improve quality and reduce software development and maintenance costs. The proposed model in this research is a combination of...

Abstract
The aim of this study is to couple molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) stack with integrated gasification combined cycle fed by refinery residues, to remove CO2 from gas turbine exhaust gases that have CO2 emission rate of 14,200 ton/year. By applying multi-objective optimisation (MOO) using genetic algorithm, the optimal values of operating load and the corresponding values of objective functions are obtained. The MOO of the MCFC system regarding two scenarios is performed. The first scenario is minimisation of cost of electricity (COE) and CO2 emission rate. Objective functions of the second scenario are the same as in the first scenario while CO2 tax is taken into account. Results show that...
Effects of anti-vortex plates on air entrainment by free vortex
, Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 20, Issue 2 , 2013 , Pages 251-258 ; 10263098 (ISSN) ; Borghei, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
2013
Abstract
Free surface vortex and air entrainment are not favorable experiences in hydropower and pumping projects. While complete omission of vortex and air entrainment is not always cost effective, partially weakened free-surface vortex flow is more economical and practical. Hence, in this study, a comprehensive set of experiments were conducted to partially reduce vortex strength and air entrainment at vertical pipe intakes, using rectangular anti-vortex plates. This phenomenon results in increasing water discharge compared with a corresponding free-surface vortex for the same water depth, i.e. in cases of shaft spillway. The plates were used as singles and in pairs and placed symmetrically and...

Abstract
The study of air-water, two-phase flows in hydraulic structures such as pressurized flow tunnels, culverts, sewer pipes, junctions, and similar conduits is of great importance for design purposes. Air can be provided by vortices at water intakes, pumping stations, aerators, steep channels, etc. Under certain conditions, air may also be introduced into pressurized intake systems, which may form large bubbles in portions of the pipe. The bubbles may, in turn, cause an unstable slug flow, or other flow patterns, that leads to sever periodic transient pressure. In this paper, an experimental model (a circular and transparent pipeline, 90 mm in ID and 10 m in length) is used to predict pressure...

Effect of anti-vortex plates on critical submergence at a vertical intake
, Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 17, Issue 2 A , 2010 , Pages 89-95 ; 10263098 (ISSN) ; Kabiri Samani, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
One of the sources of disturbance at intakes is the occurrence of free-surface vortices with an air core. The most common solution for avoiding air-entrainment is the use of anti-vortex devices and, especially, plates for large pipe or shaft intakes. If plates are used, then, the geometry and position of them should be studied experimentally. Since only general guidance for use of plates is available, a study for the more precise placement of plates is needed. Hence, a comprehensive set of experiments have been carried out using rectangular plates with different dimensions and at various positions with respect to the vertical outlet pipe intakes and two different pipe diameters (D = 75 and...
