Topological Indices in Discreat Dynamical Systems and Application

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahidi Shadkam, Sheida (Author) ; Razvan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In order to generalize the Morse Index for fixed points of a flow, Conley introduced an invariant for isolated invariant sets under a flow which is known as Conley Index. However a similar generalization in discrete dynamical systems is more difficult. Category theory, shape theory and algebraic topology have been used in the generalization. In this thesis we propose a construction of Conley index for discrete dynamical systems, which goes along Conley lines as long as it was possible, but certain modifications has been done for convenience. After introducing the index, we will consider some applications: the generalized Morse inequalities and the Morse decomposition. At the end we will...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sheida, Mojtaba (Author) ; Rahni, Taeibi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today’s Missiles are very maneuverable and to increase this ability, side jets are used. Beneficial usages of such systems are in fast responding and more accuracy in response of forces and moments to change directions. In jet in cross flow interactions, boundary layer is separated in front of the jet creating horseshoe vortices plus compression and expansion waves. In this research, we have developed a CFD code to simulate this flow, using the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model and parallel computing. Then, we have studied the influence of free stream Mach number and momentum ratio. In this simulation, 2 million nodes were used in the computational domain. Also parallel processing with...

    , Article Journal of Applied Fluid Mechanics ; Volume 10, Issue 1 , 2017 , Pages 55-67 ; 17353572 (ISSN) Sheida, M ; Taeibi Rahni, M ; Esfahanian, V ; Sharif University of Technology
    Isfahan University of Technology  2017
    Abstract
Several efforts have been performed to improve LBM defects related to its computational performance. In this work, a new algorithm has been introduced to reduce memory consumption. In the past, most LBM developers have not paid enough attention to retain LBM simplicity in their modified version, while it has been one of the main concerns in developing of the present algorithm. Note, there is also a deficiency in our new algorithm. Besides the memory reduction, because of high memory call back from the main memory, some computational efficiency reduction occurs. To overcome this difficulty, an optimization approach has been introduced, which has recovered this efficiency to the original...

    , Article Materials Chemistry and Physics ; Volume 254 , 2020 Nouri, S ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Shadkam, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
The hardening behavior of heat treatable alloys during deformation is attributed to three mechanisms of forest dislocations, solid solution and precipitation hardening which hinder the motion of dislocations and increase the density of statistically stored dislocation. In this paper, a model for the flow stress of a 2024 heat treatable aluminum alloy during plastic deformation is developed combining the superposition of these three hardening mechanisms. This model was then implemented into the finite element model in order to evaluate the evolution of the flow stress of 2024 aluminum alloy during multi-directional forging (MDF). Subsequently, an equation is developed for evaluating the...

    Investigating Sex Preferences in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khatib Shahidi, Milad (Author) ; Fatemi, Farshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The question of whether sex preferences are present in a certain country has long been of interest for economists and demographers. This study first investigates the existence of these preferences among Iranian parents. Next, if any preference are present, it turns to the task of inferring the quality of the observed preferences. There are two widely used methods for addressing these issues in the literature. The first method is to estimate a Logit model which relates the probability of a mother giving birth to a new child, to the sexes of her previous children. The second one is to estimate a Proportional Hazard model in order to investigate the relationship of the time interval between...

    Segmented Reconfigurable Bus for SoCs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahidi, Narges (Author) ; Sarbazi Azad, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Advance in VLSI integration level has realized multi-core system-on-chip. For inter-IP communication on-chip network is proposed as a substitute for simple interconnects such as bus fabrics and expensive point-to-point links. Although onchip networks have some superiorities over simple interconnects, but they need more of real estate resource. Although buses are not scalable, they are still popular for their simple communication mechanism. There are so many proposed mechanisms to make buses more scalable and more popular. Most of them try to change bus structure by segmenting and using reconfigurable methods. In this thesis, we explore buses delay by considering the number of component in a...

Heterogeneous interconnect for low-power snoop-based chip multiprocessors

    , Article Journal of Low Power Electronics ; Volume 8, Issue 5 , 2012 , Pages 624-635 ; 15461998 (ISSN) Shahidi, N ; Shafiee, A ; Baniasadi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In this work we propose using heterogeneous interconnects in power-aware chip multiprocessors (also referred to as Helia). Helia improves energy efficiency in snoop-based chip multiprocessors as it eliminates unnecessary activities in both interconnect and cache. This is achieved by using innovative snoop filtering mechanisms coupled with wire management techniques. Our optimizations rely on the observation that a high percentage of cache mismatches could be detected by utilizing a small subset but highly informative portion of the tag bits. Helia comes in two variations: source-based (S-Helia) and destination-based (D-Helia). S-Helia relies on a global snapshot of remote caches collected in...

Effect of electron irradiation on polypropylene films

    , Article Plasma Science and Technology ; Volume 13, Issue 2 , 2011 , Pages 194-196 ; 10090630 (ISSN) Shahidi, S ; Wiener, J ; Ghoranneviss, M ; Anvari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Effects of both electron beam irradiation on the properties of polypropylene (PP) films and the irradiation on the different layers of a multilayer PP film are studied. A Fourier transform infrared spectroscope was used to investigate the chemical structure of the films. The results showed that the chemical properties of the first layer were improved, that is, more functional groups responsible for dye ability and hydrophilicity of the film were produced on its surface, while noticeable improvement was not detected on the surface of other layers. This was also confirmed by testing the dye ability of the layers. However, the results obtained by atomic force microscopy showed that the electron...

Estimation of current-induced pile groups scour using a rule-based method

    , Article Journal of Hydroinformatics ; Volume 15, Issue 2 , September , 2013 , Pages 516-528 ; 14647141 (ISSN) Ghaemi, N ; Etemad-Shahidi, A ; Ataie-Ashtiani, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Scour phenomenon around piles could endanger the stability of the structures placed on them. Therefore, an accurate estimation of the scour depth around piles is very important for engineers. Due to the complexity of the interaction between the current, seabed and pile group; prediction of the scour depth is a difficult task and the available empirical formulas have limited accuracy. Recently, soft computing methods such as artificial neural networks (ANN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) have been used for the prediction of the scour depth. However, these methods do not give enough insight into the generated models and are not as easy to use as the empirical formulas. In...

    Abstract
In this thesis, the flow behavior in a fluidic oscillator-based flowmeter is investigated using two-dimensional numerical simulations and experimental tests. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the effect of geometrical parameters and flow conditions on the performance of the fluidic oscillator and to determine the relationships between key parameters such as oscillation frequency, oscillation amplitude, pressure drop, and the standard deviation of the Strouhal number. The numerical simulations are conducted using the Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) model and the finite volume method, with the k−ω SST turbulence model applied for flow modeling. The computations...

Study on anisotropy of cosmic ray distribution with a small array of water Cherenkov detectors

    , Article Physical Review D - Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology ; Volume 76, Issue 8 , 2007 ; 15507998 (ISSN) Sheidaei, F ; Bahmanabadi, M ; Keivani, A ; Khakian Ghomi, M ; Samimi, J ; Shadkam, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
The study of the anisotropy of the arrival directions is an essential tool to investigate the origin and propagation of cosmic ray primaries. A simple way of recording many cosmic rays is to record coincidences between a number of detectors. We have monitored multi-TeV cosmic rays by a small array of water Cherenkov detectors in Tehran (35°43′N, 51°20′E, 1200 m above sea level). More than 1.1×106 extensive air shower events were recorded. In addition to the Compton-Getting effect due to the motion of the Earth in the Galaxy, an anisotropy has been observed which is due to a unidirectional anisotropy of cosmic ray flow along the Galactic arms. © 2007 The American Physical Society

    Abstract
The atmosphere effect before shower maximum is dominantly: an environment for development of Extensive Air Shower(EAS) events, but after that, the absorbtion effect of the atmosphere will be dominant. The shower maximum for about 100 TeV is near 500 gr/cm2 (∼5200m a.s.l), and most of EAS arrays in this energy range are at heights below the shower maximum height, specially for higher zenith angle EAS events, so we need to more concentration on the absorbtion effect specially in this energy range and our site. Therefore for this investigation we logged 476,675 true EAS events by an array of particle water Cherenkov detectors. We calculated the local coordinates (θ, φ) of each EAS event by...

Investigation of Geomagnetic field effect on azimuth distribution of EAS events

    , Article 30th International Cosmic Ray Conference, ICRC 2007, Merida, Yucatan, 3 July 2007 through 11 July 2007 ; Volume 4, Issue HE PART 1 , 2007 , Pages 11-14 Khakian Ghomi, M ; Bahmanabadi, M ; Samimi, J ; Shadkam, A. H ; Sheydaei, F ; Anvari, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
EAS events are developing in the last few 10 kilometers of their path in the atmosphere. But geomagnetic field has been extended until a few thousand kilometers around the Earth. This field deflects charged particles and the deflection is different for different directions and observers. These differences depend on the amount and direction of the geomagnetic field (a dipole inside the earth) and direction of the charged particle. It was accurately investigated for 100 TeV primary particles from H0 = 20, 000 kilometers from the center of the earth (BH = 0.03 * B 0) to the ground and it was observed that the deflection is less than 10-6 degrees in azimuth angle φ. Therefore we investigated the...

Optimization of Gas Allocation to a Group of Wells in Gas Lift

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghaedi, Mojtaba (Author) ; Ghotbi, Siroos (Supervisor) ; Amin Shahidi, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
When the reservoir energy is too low for the well to flow, or the production rate desired is greater than the reservoir energy can deliver, it becomes necessary to put the well on some form of artificial lift to provide the energy to bring the fluid to the surface. Continuous flow gas lift is one of the most common artificial lift methods widely used in the oil industry. In continuous gas lift, gas at high-pressure is injected in a suitable depth into the tubing, to gasify the oil column, and thus facilitate the production. Every well has an optimal gas lift operating point at which it will produce the most fluid. Ideally, if there is no restriction in the total amount of gas available,...

    Abstract
Low temperature plasma (LTP) is nowadays an intensively investigated superficial treatment of wool. In this work we have investigated the effect of LTP on wool fabric under different conditions. The effect of the position of samples inside the reactor and the kind of gases used as discharge medium has been also investigated. The results show that not only the topography of the surface is modified but also the chemical composition of the surface. It is shown that the hydrophilicity of the samples and also their shrink resistance and anti-felting behavior have improved significantly under LTP treatment. The results show that the shrinkage of 30.1% for untreated samples has reduced to about...
