    Axisymmetric Response of a Transversely Isotropic Half-space Stiffened by a Thin Plate Considering Refined Interaction Theory

    In this paper, the elastic response of a surface-stiffened transversely isotropic half-space subjected to a surface normal load is addressed. The half-space is reinforced by a Kirchhoff thin plate bonded to its surface. Two different boundary conditions are considered across the plate-half-space interface: (i) the classic approach in which the plate in-plane deformation is neglected by writing the interfacial boundary conditions across the plate mid-plane, and (ii) the refined approach that considers the in-plane deformation of plate due to bending by writing the boundary conditions across the bottom face of plate.     In this paper, the development of a controller for autonomous lateral alignment of fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with runway centerline in landing phase is presented. Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) is used in order to enable the vehicle to mimic the decision making procedure that a pilot follow in the same situation. Also, for longitudinal motion controller design for the UAV to follow a pre-defined trajectory, the pole-placement technique is used.     Abstract
    This paper proposes a high performance voltage tracking and current sharing among parallel connected inverters by applying optimal control and minimizing the cost function. The control system forces the voltage of load to track the voltage reference, and the current of all inverters becomes equal. Therefore, both current sharing and voltage tracking are obtained. In addition, the smallest input energy and simplicity in control circuit are the other advantages of the suggested method.     Seismic Response of “Karroon III” DAM to Non-Uniform Ground Motions

    Usually in analysis of arch dams, applied seismic motions on dam-foundation interface are assumed to be uniform. This is while that recorded motions show non-uniform accelerations in dam-foundation interface. Analyzing of the dam under this non-uniform accelerations we can find the importance of this assumption in analysis of arch dams. Two earthquakes were excited “KAROON III” dam at 20.11.2007 and 21.11.2007. The respective motions were recorded by the array of accelerometers that has been installed on the dam.     Recorded ground accelerations at various locations of Karun III Dam during November 20, 2007, were recorded by an array of accelerometers located on the dam. In terms of amplitude and phase, these accelerations show non-uniformities in different elevations. In this paper, the effect of these non-uniform ground motions on the seismic response of the dam taking dam-reservoir-foundation interaction into account is investigated.     Thermal analysis of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) dams is generally carried out considering identical ambient boundary conditions at upstream and downstream faces. For the case of Shahri-Kor Dam (an RCC dam with a height of 57 m), recorded thermal data depicts a considerable difference between upstream and downstream ambient temperatures, especially during cold months.     Motivated by the bus escape routing problem in printed circuit boards, we revisit the following problem: given a set of n axis-parallel rectangles inside a rectangular region R, find the maximum number of rectangles that can be extended toward the boundary of R, without overlapping each other. We provide an efficient algorithm for solving this problem in O(n2 log3 n log log n) time, improving over the current best O(n3)-time algorithm available for the problem

    We explore the dictionary learning problem for sparse representation when the signals are dependent. In this paper, a first-order Markovian model is considered for dependency of the signals, that has many applications especially in medical signals. It is shown that the considered dependency among the signals can degrade the performance of the existing dictionary learning algorithms. Hence, we propose a method using the Maximum Log-likelihood Estimator (MLE) and the Expectation Minimization (EM) algorithm to learn the dictionary from the signals generated under the first-order Markovian model.     Data are presented on the solidification of aluminum alloys and their macro segregation behavior. Three alloys with different solidification ranges were prepared in two temperatures. Two types of molds were also prepared by sand and metallic materials.     Motivated by the bus escape routing problem in printed circuit boards, we study the following rectangle escape problem: given a set S of n axis-aligned rectangles inside an axis-aligned rectangular region R, extend each rectangle in S toward one of the four borders of R so that the maximum density over the region R is minimized. The density of each point p∈R is defined as the number of extended rectangles containing p. We show that the problem is hard to approximate to within a factor better than 3/2 in general.     Integrating high spatial resolution of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and high temporal resolution of electroencephalogram (EEG) is promising in simultaneous EEG and fMRI analysis, especially for epileptic patients.
