    Abstract
Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI) are an important concept of biomedical engineering because of their ability to improve life conditions for people with different disabilities. Lots of studies have worked on important characteristics of BCI systems, such as speed and accuracy, whereas price is an important aspect too. Thus, a low cost BCI system with high accuracy clearly can help more people. Our purpose in this study is to design a P300 based BCI system using a low-priced EEG headset which has an acceptable accuracy. Our final design got a mean real-time accuracy of 93.3% which is comparable to systems with much more expensive hardware. © 2019 IEEE

    , Article 2023 14th Power Electronics, Drive Systems, and Technologies Conference, PEDSTC 2023 ; 2023 ; 979-835033664-1 (ISBN) Sheikhi Azizi, A ; Kaboli, S ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2023
    Abstract
High-voltage DC power supplies (HVDCPSs) have become a highly interesting research field because HVDCPSs have wide industrial applications. Elimination of the ripple is essential in most HVDCPSs, due to the sensitivity of the loads to the output voltage stability. This article outlines the development of an HVDCPS with reduced output voltage ripple. One effective approach for achieving this is to incorporate a ripple compensation unit into the power supply design. Efficiency is one of the issues with linear compensation units; hence, this paper proposes switching ripple compensation unit (SRCU). According to the equations calculated in this paper, the load of the SRCU acts as a current source...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hatami Bahman Beyglou, Elnaz (Author) ; Torkian, Ayoub (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Membrane bioreactors can replace the activated sludge process and the final clarification step in municipal wastewater treatment. The combination of bioreactor and crossflow microfiltration allows for a high chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction of synthetic wastewater. In this study, experimental data from a laboratory scale membrane bioreactor are presented. In order to investigate the influence of various operating parameters such as hydraulic retention time (HRT), biomass concentration and organic loading rate on organic pollutant removal, the pilot scale submerged membrane bioreactor (SMBR) with a Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membrane module was conducted using synthetic...

Model-based adaptive target detection in clutter using MIMO radar

    , Article 2006 CIE International Conference on Radar, ICR 2006, Shanghai, 16 October 2006 through 19 October 2006 ; 2006 ; 0780395824 (ISBN); 9780780395824 (ISBN) Sheikhi, A ; Zamani, A ; Norouzi, Y ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper the problem of target detection using coherent pulse terrain in auto regressive (AR) clutter has been considered for MIMO radars. We have formulated this problem as a hypothesis test. Using the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) an adaptive decision scheme has been developed for clutter with known order but unknown parameters. The performance of the proposed detectors have been evaluated using Monte-Carlo simulations. The results show the superiority of the MIMO radars with temporal coherent processing over the conventional phased arrays due to both angular spread and a newly presented phenomenon which is called doppler spread in this paper. © 2006 IEEE

Thermal Hall and Nernst responses in ultrathin magnetic films of pyrochlore lattice

    , Article Journal of Physics Condensed Matter ; Volume 33, Issue 26 , 2021 ; 09538984 (ISSN) Sheikhi, B ; Kargarian, M ; Langari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    IOP Publishing Ltd  2021
    Abstract
The ultrathin films of pyrochlore lattice along [111] direction provide a fertile ground for exploring topological states in oxide materials, where the electron correlations are strong and magnetically ordered states are favored. As a result of strong interactions, most of states are magnetic insulators with strong Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya and anisotropic spin interactions. We considered three types of heterostructures, a bilayer of triangular-kagome (TK), and two trilayers of triangular-kagome-triangular (TKT) and kagome-triangular-kagome (KTK) thin films. The ground states are magnetically ordered with the low-energy excitations, the magnons, characterized by nontrivial topology. While for TK...

Hybrid topological magnon-phonon modes in ferromagnetic honeycomb and kagome lattices

    , Article Physical Review B ; Volume 104, Issue 4 , 2021 ; 24699950 (ISSN) Sheikhi, B ; Kargarian, M ; Langari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    American Physical Society  2021
    Abstract
Magnons and phonons are two fundamental neutral excitations of magnetically ordered materials which can significantly dominate the low-energy thermal properties. In this work we study the interplay of magnons and phonons in honeycomb and kagome lattices. When the mirror reflection with respect to the magnetic ordering direction is broken, the symmetry-allowed in-plane Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction will couple the magnons to the phonons and the magnon-polaron states are formed. Besides, both lattice structures also allow for an out-of-plane DM interaction rendering the uncoupled magnons to be topological. Our aim is to study the interplay of such topological magnons with phonons. We...

Deterministic Sensing Matrix Design in Compressive Sensing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagh-Sheikhi, Hamed (Author) ; Amini, Arash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Sampling and recovery of a signal is one of the crucial issues in communication systems. In conventional methods, proper recovery is achieved by sampling the signal at the Nyquist rate, which is twice the signal bandwidth. There have been attempts on reducing the required sampling rate, all of which end in rates equal to a factor of the signal bandwidth. Assuming the sparse nature of the signal in hand, which is a reasonable assumption in many real world scenarios, the theory of Compressed Sensing suggests a sampling rate much less than the Nyquist rate. Designing suitable sensing matrices and efficient recovery of the signal from its samples are the two major challenges of Compressed...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sheikhi, Aras (Author) ; Ranjbar, Ali Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The development of technologies such as micro turbines and gas furnaces has been the major driving force towards integration of electricity and natural gas networks in the energy hubs (EH). Besides, the existing power grids are getting smarter by implementing the new generation of information technologies and communication systems. In smart grid, the electricity suppliers can modify the customers’ electrical load consumption by employing appropriate scheduling schemes such as DR (demand response) programs. In this thesis, I consider the S. E. Hubs (smartenergy hubs) framework, in which the customers can use EMS (energy management system) to access to the electricity and natural gas prices...

Sensorless Estimation of Lifetime of High-Voltage Power Supplies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sheikhi Azizi, Abbas (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
High voltage power supplies have a wide range of applications, and due to their high cost, it is essential to monitor their condition to predict potential failures and prevent significant losses. The most common cause of power supply failure is the wear and tear of its components. However, these components can be replaced before they wear out completely to prevent the failure of the power supply and, consequently, avoid damaging the load. Estimating the lifetime of power supplies is crucial because it allows for scheduled maintenance and helps prevent significant problems in power supplies. By estimating the lifespan of a power supply, one can anticipate when it may fail, allowing for the...

Experimental Investigation of Acidizing in Natural Fractured Carbonates to the Optimum Injection Condition

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sheikhi, Sobhan (Author) ; Ayatollahi, Shahabodin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In many cases, oil and gas extraction from reservoirs due to damage and permeability reduction near wellbore is lower than optimum level and reduces the flow of oil into the well. In fact, formation damage is the collapse of natural condition of reservoirs, In addition to delaying production and increasing costs, it causes early desertification of wells. Well stimulation methods are used to solve this problem and increase production. One of the most effective ways to increase the production of wells is well acidizing. In this study, the acid performance of the fractured carbonate reservoirs has been investigated. In this type of reservoirs, due to the existence of high permeable paths of the...

    Abstract
A three-phase dual active bridge (DAB) converter is designed and constructed as the DC/DC stage of a 50 kW fast charger station. Recently introduced 300A SiC power modules and drivers are utilized in the converter to obtain a high efficiency. Each module has two interconnected switches with anti-parallel diodes resembling a converter leg. It is observed that the driver halts the module operation as a result of protective actions such as over-current, gate under-voltage, or gate overvoltage. In such case the module operates as a leg with two diodes until an external hardware signal resets the driver. The aim of this paper is to provide analysis, simulation and experiments for a three-phase...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bahman Shamsabadi, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Farhanieh, Bijan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
When a fire breaks out in a tunnel, due to the enclosure of the interior of the road tunnels, hot and poison smoke quickly spreads in the tunnel. This phenomenon, in addition to destroy the tunnel structure, causes a lot of financial and human losses. In recent years, research into fire control has become more important with the occurrence of numerous accidents in road tunnels and fatalities. Longitudinal ventilation is still the main method for controlling smoke distribution in tunnels due to lower construction costs and acceptable efficiency. Numerous studies have been conducted to investigate the effect of different and effective parameters on fire control and smoke emissions in direct...

    Abstract
United Nation aims to double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency as one of the sustainable development goals. It means researchers should focus on energy systems to enhance their overall efficiency. One of the effective solution to move from suboptimal energy systems to optimal ones is analyzing energy system in Energy Hub (EH) framework. In EH framework, interactions between different energy carriers are considered in supplying the required loads. The couplings and selecting proper combinations of inputs energy carriers lead to more optimized and intelligent consumption. The appropriate combination is found by solving an optimization problem at each time step. Utilizing...
