    The present study investigated the effect of laser input energy on the quality and mechanical behavior of a 304 stainless steel–polyamide 6 joint in the laser-assisted metal and polymer direct joining (LAMP) method experimentally and numerically. After the proposed heat transfer model was validated, it was determined whether there was an optimal amount of laser input energy that could produce a joint with favorable quality and mechanical behavior.     Abstract
    Among the factors affecting the efficiency of laser-assisted metal and polymer (LAMP) joints, the surface condition of the joint components is one of the most important ones. So, the present study explored the effect of laser pre-oxidation of stainless steel 304 (SS304), as a novel pretreatment method, on SS304/polyamide 6 joint strength. The assessments revealed that in spite of the potential of surface pre-oxidation of SS304 for improving joint strength, the strength of the joint was reduced by ∼ 25 % in practice because, firstly, the wettability of the metal by the polymer was reduced due to the reduction of heat transfer by the metal in the preoxidized zone and secondly, the oxide layer... 

    Ray Tracing Based on Reinforcement Learning

    Abstract
    We show that the equations of reinforcement learning and light transport simulation (rendering equation) are related integral equations. Based on this correspondence, a scheme to learn importance while sampling path space is derived. The new approach is demonstrated in a consistent ray tracing algorithm that uses reinforcement learning to progressively learn where light comes from. As using this information for importance sampling includes information about visibility, too, the number of light transport paths with non-zero contribution is dramatically increased, resulting in much less noisy images within a fixed time budget

    Biosorption capacity of zinc (II) by biomasses produced from four species of microorganism including two kinds of bacteria (Pseudomonas putida and Streptomyces rimosus) and two kinds of fungi ( Aspergillus niger and Phanerochate chrysosporium) in batch case were investigated and compared. In all cases dried original bio mass and dried pretreated bio mass with NaOH were used. In all cases biosorption capacity of pretreated biomasses were much higher than non-treated biuomasses to the ratio of 3.8 – 1.4 times.     Given a simple polygon P in the plane, we present a parallel algorithm for computing the visibility polygon of an observer point q inside P. We use chain visibility concept and a bottom-up merge method for constructing the visibility polygon of point q. Considering the same problem on an array, we present a game theoretic analysis of self-stabilizing systems with three- or four-state machines. We give a formalized definition of the problem as a game where each player’s strategy represents the state of its corresponding machine.
