On The Foundation of Cognitive Sciences: A Critique of Neurotheology

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Solgi, Farshid (Author) ; Hosseini, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the tasks of philosophy of science is to study the pre-suppositions involved in the natural sciences, to study the concepts used in scientific researches and theorizing. Hence, neglecting philosophy and even the modality of philosophical views, can have devastating effects on any science, including psychology (if it can be called science). Wittgenstein believed that in psychology we are confronted with experimental methods and conceptual confusion, and that this confusion does not go away with giving the title of young knowledge to the psychology. The emergence and dominance of behaviorism can be attributed to the effects of positivism and the uncomprehensive interpretation of physics...

Providing a Suitable Drug Delivery Plan for Cancer Treatment with Chemotherapy and Anti-Angiogenic Agent

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Solgi, Mostafa (Author) ; Moradi, Hamed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, accounting for approximately 12% of global mortality. Cancer treatment encompasses various methods, with chemotherapy being one of the most common approaches for treating malignant tumors. Angiogenesis is a phenomenon that significantly accelerates the growth of cancer cells; therefore, combination therapies that include both chemotherapy and anti-angiogenic drugs are often employed. Dynamic models are highly effective for estimating cell growth processes in cancer, as they not only provide valuable insights into cell growth trends but also allow for the examination of these processes with significantly lower time and cost compared to...

Investigation of surface stress effect in 3D complex nano parts using FEM and modified boundary Cauchy-Born method

    , Article Journal of Computational Science ; Volume 10 , 2015 , Pages 1-12 ; 18777503 (ISSN) Ghaffari, R ; Alipour, K ; Solgi, S ; Irani, S ; Haddadpour, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2015
    Abstract
In this paper the surface effects in 3D complex parts are investigated via classical FEM and the modified boundary Cauchy-Born method, which are continuum based theories, and the results are compared with molecular dynamics simulations. The boundary Cauchy-Born covers the weakness of the surface Cauchy-Born in modeling edge and corner elements, so the results are in better agreement with molecular dynamics simulations. Using super convergent patch recovery method, MBCB shows more precise results in comparison with BCB as it can model acute and obtuse angles which cannot be modeled via BCB. The flexibility of MBCB in modeling 3D complex and non-right angle geometries are utilized to model...

    Abstract
In this paper we explore the existence of periodic solutions of a nonautonomous semi-ratio-dependent predator-prey dynamical system with functional responses on time scales. To illustrate the utility of this work, we should mention that, in our results this system with a large class of monotone functional responses, always has at least one periodic solution. For instance, this system with some celebrated functional responses such as Holling type-II (or Michaelis-Menten), Holling type-III, Ivlev, mx (Holling type I), sigmoidal [e.g., Real and mx2/((A + x)(B +x))] and some other monotone functions, has always at least one ω-periodic solution. Besides, for some well-known functional responses...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yazdani, Homa (Author) ; Taghavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Feyarabend’s philosophy of science is against method and rule such that he believes that “anything goes”. However, he sometimes applies the term “progress”. Reviewing his publications shows that from his point of view, progress is qualitative and relative. So, unlike other philosophers of science Feyarabend ignores the clarification of the concept; subsequently, his applications of the term “progress” are somewhat ambiguous. However, by studying his philosophy, one may realize what should be done to achieve progress in any sense. The affirmative aspect of Feyerabend’s philosophy, while highlights the social and ethical elements, considering his humanitarian outlook as well as his special...

On Feenberg’s Alternative Thinking About Virtual Space Technologies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahimi, Morteza (Author) ; Taghavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cultural and social problems in the modern age have motivated many thinkers to analyze modernity. Some of them have tried to solve these problems and, if possible, prevent their occurrence in the future. Proposed solutions are mostly dystopian, i.e. by being disappointed, they think the only possible way to overcome these problems is to annihilate modern civilization, or they pursue a passive approach; i.e. they have accepted the problems of modernity but only seek a way to mitigate its challenges. Among these, solutions which try to make use of the capacities of the modern civilization, especially emerging technologies, are really scarce. These approaches seek to realize (and make...
