Speech Recognition System Having Phoneme-Based Recognition
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghorshi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Mortazavi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
This thesis describes a robust algorithm in speech recognition system based on phoneme recognition. Automatic speech recognition systems (ASR) can be divided into two main types: speaker-dependent continuous speech PC-based systems and speaker-independent continuous-speech server based systems. In speaker- independent systems, there is no need to have knowledge about the speaker(s) before using the system, on the other hand, in speaker dependent systems it is essential to have voice training by the speaker(s) supposed to work with the system. In this thesis, a speaker-independent continuous speech PC-based system has been chosen to work with. Acoustic-phonetic approach has been chosen among...
Algebraic Topology Metheds on Graph Coloring
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jafari, Amir (Supervisor)
Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to introduce some algebraic topologies methods and apply them on fining the chromatic number of some famous graphs and also hypergraphs. In the first part, we will use a mixture of two well-known technics, Tucker lemma and Discrete Morse theory to find an upper bound for the chromatic number of s-stable Kneser for some specific vector s. to find the sharper upper bound, we will deviate our strategy and use another approach by finding an edge-labeling and apply some theorems in POSET algebraic topology. In this way, we also find a connection between Young diagrams and the numbers of spheres in the box complex related to Kneser graphs and hypergraph. Actually, we can...

Abstract
With increasing use of data transmission between digital systems as well as subsystems, the need for more reliable communication is felt. In this research, a new approach to the linear error correcting codes is introduced. Among advantages of this technique are simpler code construction and also decoding algorithm, as well as easier understanding of the basic concept. Based on an earlier paper and also recent work done, we first discuss briefly the use of Karnaugh map and its advantages in constructing simple codes. We then prove a theorem on application of the map to multiple error correcting codes. Using these results, we propose a simple technique that leads to obtaining a code with more...

Abstract
Active components in amplifiers generate noise. Thus, amplifiers too, produce noise at their output and, therefore, increase the input signal to noise ratio. This is an undesirable feature, more particularly when one is dealing with weak input signals already combined with noise. Thus, reducing amplifiers' noise becomes a necessity for some applications. To overcome this problem, one approach consists of improving electronic device technology. Another approach is the use of advanced techniques in designing low noise amplifiers by taking advantage of pulse shapers. Pulse shapers generally consist of calculated filters made of integrator(s) and differentiator(s) that limit properly the...

Design and Implementation of a Tunable Frequency Channelizer on FPGA
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Tabandeh, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowdays, many of communication systems working together. The fist part of each communication system is related to separating a desired part of system input signal. This is called channelisation. Channelization is a process where single, few, or all channels from a certain frequency band are separated for further processing. The separation of single channel is usually done by down-conversion followed by filtering and optional sample-rate conversion. A straightforward implementation for multi channel sepration, which is also the traditional implementation of wideband channelizer, is to simply use a single-channel channelizer for each channel. A few applications require that an input signal be...

Abstract
In recent years, along with development of technology and decrease in size of digital devices, copying and editing of digital multimedia products has become easier. Also, broadband technology caused simpler distribution of data. Considering above mentioned problems, we can use watermarking. Nowadays, watermarking has many applications such as secure transmission of data, owner identification, proof of ownership, authentication, broadcast monitoring etc. Watermarking is the process of hiding information in a secure host, in a way that it does not change the quality of signal. Watermarking is the science and art of hiding secret information in which neither the sender nor the receiver would...

Abstract
Self-repairing is not an advanced ability of articular cartilage. Tissue engineering has provided a novel way for reconstructing cartilage using natural polymers because of their biocompatibility and bio-functionality. The purpose of cartilage tissue engineering is to design a scaffold with proper pore structure and similar biological and mechanical properties to the native tissue. In this study, porous scaffolds prepared from gelatin, chitosan and silk fibroin were blended with varying ratios. Between the blends of chitosan (C), gelatin (G) and silk fibroin (S), the scaffold with the weight per volume ratio of 2:2:3 (w/v) showed the most favorable and higher certain properties than the...

Needle Steering in Soft Tissue
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jahed, Mehran (Supervisor)
Abstract
Medical needle interventions are a common technique for accessing tissue structures. In these procedures, needles are used, for example, to extract biopsy samples, brachytherapy, and to insert drugs. In TRUS guided prostate brachytherapy application, Physicians used ulterasound imaging to steer the needle and insert radioactive seeds into cancerous tumors to irradiate surrounding tissue over several months. Prostate rotation, deformation, and unavailability of imaging data during part of the insertion path result in misplaced seeds. To overcome these problems, in this research, we modeled the prostate, its membrane and the surrounding fatty tissue as linearly elastic homogenous material, and...

Analysis of Temporal Stability and Transferability of Trip Distribution Models Considering Urban Development Patterns: The Case of Shiraz
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shafahi, Yousef (Supervisor)
Abstract
Trip distribution is the second step of the four-step travel demand modeling. Like other travel demand models, the most important objective of trip distribution models generation is forecasting the travel data of a year in the future. On the one hand, extensive changes in cities’ urban structures and people’s travel behavior during the years brings up the essential question of how temporally stable and transferable trip distribution models are? This question becomes even more important when the more complex structure of trip distribution models compared to models such as trip generation is considered. On the other hand, it is logical to assume that the consideration of the effects of urban...

Biomechanical Effects of Intervertebral Disc Nucleotomy Surgery on Adjacent Joints Using a Coupled Musculoskeletal Finite Element Model
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Arjmand, Navid (Supervisor)
Abstract
According to studies, low back pain is one of the most common and costly musculoskeletal disorders. Herniation of intervertebral discs exerts pressure on the nerves, causing pain. To alleviate this, physicians perform a procedure called nucleotomy, which removes the disc's nucleus pulposus to reduce pressure, retract the disc, and relieve pain. Accurate estimation of spinal forces during activities is essential for injury prevention, activity correction, and improved surgical techniques. Although laboratory studies on humans or cadavers are valid, they are often invasive and limited to simple scenarios, necessitating precise computational models for comprehensive biomechanical analysis....

Abstract
Analyzing motion patterns in traffic videos can be exploited directly to generate high-level descriptions of the video content. The most recent and successful unsupervised methods for complex traffic scene analysis are based on topic models. In this paper, a new two-stage framework is proposed for traffic motion pattern extraction based on topic models. This framework forces the topic model to learn known meaningful motion patterns in traffic scenes. Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) is employed as the topic model. Experimental results show that our proposed framework finds the motion patterns more efficiently and gives a meaningful representation for the video. © 2017 IEEE
