    , Article 10th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communications Systems, ICCS 2006, Singapore, 30 October 2006 through 1 November 2006 ; 2006 ; 1424404118 (ISBN); 9781424404117 (ISBN) Talebi, M. S ; Khalaj, B. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper addresses the problem of optimal power allocation in multiuser OFDM ad-hoc networks. Our objective is to maximize the weighted rate-sum of users under total transmit power constraint. Maximizing a weighted rate-sum is more amenable whereas appropriate weight assignment to different users, guarantees fairness among users. We propose a distributed algorithm for optimal power allocation based on reaching a consensus among users for power allocation. The proposed algorithm is tractable in the sense of computational complexity and requires only local information at each node. Simulation results and the analysis of the algorithm are presented to support the proposed idea. © 2006 IEEE

    Abstract
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is one of the widely used multiplexing techniques in wireless communications and especially cognitive radio networks. One of the key challenges of this technique is its high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signal. This paper, introduces a new approach to PAPR reduction of OFDM signals using harmony search algorithm (HSA) based on the partial transmit sequence (PTS) method. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has better PAPR reduction performance as an accurate and low complexity approach for OFDM systems

    Abstract
Global motion estimation (GME) is an important technique in image and video processing. Whereas the direct global motion estimation techniques boast reasonable precision they tend to suffer from high computational complexity. As with indirect methods, though presenting lower computational complexity they mostly exhibit lower accuracy than their direct counterparts. In this paper, the authors introduce a robust algorithm for GME with near identical accuracy and almost 50-times faster than MPEG-4 verification model (VM). This approach entails two stages in which, first, motion vector of sampled block is employed to obtain initial GME then Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is applied to the...

Improved initial value prediction for global motion estimation

    , Article European Signal Processing Conference, 23 August 2010 through 27 August 2010, Aalborg ; 2010 , Pages 2022-2026 ; 22195491 (ISSN) Ahmadi, A ; Salehinejad, H ; Talebi, S ; Koroupi, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Global motion estimation (GME) algorithms have an imperative role in object-based applications. Gradient-based GME is a well known method among these algorithms. Such algorithms require an initial value for their initialization step. Well estimation of this value plays a significant role in the accuracy of GME. This work introduces a simple but efficient technique for initial value prediction of GME. This technique employs a long-term predictor as well as global motions of previous frames. Simulations results demonstrate faster convergence and less computational complexity of the proposed method versus common presented techniques in the literature with almost same efficiency

    Abstract
Traditionally energy systems were analyzed technically, but current environmental issues and considerations have put new constraints on the planning and managing of energy systems. Such an exergoeconomic and exergoenvironmental analysis were born. This analysis is aimed to describe the necessity and application of a new concept in environmental liability accounting based on physical quantities to overcome the weaknesses of the developed allocation methods and the internalization of external environmental damages. The proposed method is modified in environmental analysis to consider the effect of non-energy flows on a macro-surface energy system. As a case study, this method is tuned for a...

    Abstract
This paper introduces adaptive consensus, a spatio-temporal adaptive method to improve convergence behavior of the current consensus fusion schemes. This is achieved by introducing a time adaptive weighting method for updating each sensor data in each iteration. Adaptive consensus method will improve node convergence rate, average convergence rate and the variance of error over the network. A mathematical formulation of the method according to the adaptive filter theory as well as derivation of the time adaptive weights and convergence conditions are presented. The analytical results are verified by simulation as well. ©2006 IEEE

Maximizing quality of aggregation in delay-constrained wireless sensor networks

    , Article IEEE Communications Letters ; Volume 17, Issue 11 , 2013 , Pages 2084-2087 ; 10897798 (ISSN) Alinia, B ; Yousefi, H ; Talebi, M. S ; Khonsari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
In this letter, both the number of participating nodes and spatial dispersion are incorporated to establish a bi-objective optimization problem for maximizing the quality of aggregation under interference and delay constraints in tree-based wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The formulated problem is proved to be NP-hard with respect to Weighted-sum scalarization and a distributed heuristic aggregation scheduling algorithm, named SDMAX, is proposed. Simulation results show that SDMAX not only gives a close approximation of the Pareto-optimal solution, but also outperforms the best, to our knowledge, existing alternative proposed so far in the literature

    Abstract
We show that in the family of degree d⩾ 2 rational maps of the Riemann sphere, the closure of strictly postcritically finite maps contains a (relatively) Baire generic subset of maps displaying maximal non-statistical behavior: for a map f in this generic subset, the set of accumulation points of the sequence of empirical measures of almost every point in the phase space, is equal to the largest possible one, that is the set of all f-invariant measures. We also introduce an abstract setting to study non-statistical dynamics and sufficient conditions for their existence in a general family of maps. These sufficient conditions are related to the notions of “statistical instability” and...

Design of Tensegrity Structure as Supporting Structure of Mesh-Like Deployable Antenna for use in Micro-Satellites

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Behnam (Author) ; Abedian, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Deployable structures have been used on small satellites since the beginning of such space programmes. Here, the design sequence for a special tensegrity structure, for use as supporting structure for deployable mesh-like antenna will be proposed. The design process is conducted to prevent structural elements from failure, and satisfy the minimum specified natural frequency. In this research, structural modeling is performed based on two external geometric parameters (overall height and diameter), and three internal geometric parameters (elements cross-section properties). The pre-stress in structural element is the last design parameter. Also, materials are pre-assigned. Internal forces of...

    Abstract
Application of composite patches in repair of damaged/aged aircraft structures is one of the most popular repairing methods in aerospace engineering. Since running experiments are difficult, time consuming, expensive, and also require high level of expertise, simulation of the behavior of the patch and also the faulty components after repair can assist designers and engineers in optimization of their designs. In this article, full-scale simulation of a damaged panel that is experimentally repaired with a composite patch will be considered using ABAQUS, a commercial finite element code. The crack growth process is modeled with the extended finite element method and the cohesive zone model...

    Abstract
Application of composite patches in repair of damaged/aged aircraft structures is one of the most popular repairing methods in aerospace engineering and because of its advantages the use of this type of repair is increasing today. However, to use these patches in life extension of aged aircraft, the added weight to the structure should be strictly controlled. This could be best done if achieving the optimum and smart design by using optimization and structural health monitoring methods. These two concept about pre-designed of composite patch repair are investigated in this thesis. The simulation by Abaqus software and experimental results and tests will be used for this purpose. In first...

    Abstract
In this paper, the configuration parameters of pre-designed composite patch repair are optimized with the aim of achieving the highest level of stability of crack growth in aluminum in the presence of some constraints such as weight, load sustainability, shear stress in the adhesive layer and maximum stress in the patch. For this purpose, the patch is modeled in full scale by ABAQUS, a commercial finite element code. The crack growth process is simulated with the extended finite element method under uniaxial tensile loading, and the Cohesive Zone Model is used to model the progressive damage in the adhesive of the composite patch repair. Also, sensitivity analysis is performed on the...

    Abstract
Hereby, a sonochemical method for synthesis of pure magnetic Fe3O4Onanoparticles (Fe3O4-NPs) in large scale is being introduced. Synthesis proceeds via simple approach, at room temperature, under sonication, using cheap reagents, green antioxidant-reductant reagent and without using inert gas purge as protective atmosphere condition. During this procedure, hydrogen gas releases continuously as valuable byproduct at the anaerobic step of reaction. Characterizations' results indicate that the final product is pure spherical Fe3O4-NPs, with narrow size distribution and about less than 32nm in mean diameter while more than 99% of particles size were less than 40nm. According to Vibrational...

Management of Classifiers Pool in Data Stream Classification Using Probabilistic Graphical Models

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Hesamoddin (Author) ; Beigy, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Concept drift is a common situation in data streams where distribution which data is generated from, changes over time due to various reasons like environmental changes. This phenomenon challenges classification process strongly. Recent studies on keeping a pool of classifiers each modeling one of the concepts, have achieved promising results. Storing used classifiers in a pool enables us to exploit prior knowledge of concepts in the future occurrence of them. Most of the methods presented so far, introduce a similarity measure between current and past concepts and select the closest stored concept as current one. These methods don’t consider possible relations and dependenies between...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Mahyar (Author) ; Hejranfar, Kazem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the present study, an incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics based on the artificial compressibility method is applied for simulating the incompressible turbulent flows. The Reynolds-averaged incompressible Navier–Stokes equations using the artificial compressibility method in the Eulerian reference frame are written in the Lagrangian reference frame to provide an appropriate incompressible SPH algorithm for the turbulent flow computations. Here, the k-L_m turbulence model, which is a simplified k-ϵ turbulence model, is used and formulated in the Lagrangian reference frame. The SPH formulation implemented here is based on an implicit dual-time stepping scheme to be capable of...
