This study investigates the performance of the Reinforced Concrete column and Steel beam (RCS) structural system at the system level, with a focus on evaluating seismic design coefficients (R-factor, Ω₀, and Cd) using FEMA P-695 methodology. The RCS system provides a more efficient alternative to conventional steel and reinforced concrete moment-resisting frames, offering higher damping and lateral stiffness in RC columns along with greater energy dissipation in steel beams. Although several studies have examined the RCS system's performance, most have concentrated on the connection level. In this study, 32 archetypes are designed with variations in building heights, span lengths, concrete...

In view of better understanding interactions of amino acids and peptides with metallic cations in the isolated state, the model system histidineM 2+ (M2+ = Mg2+, Ca2+, Zn 2+) has been studied theoretically. The computations have been performed with the help of the density functional theory (DFT) and the B3LYP functional. The extended basis set was the standard 6-311++G**. All the molecular complexes obtained by the interaction between several energetically low-lying tautomers/conformers/zwitterions of histidine and the cations on different binding sites were considered. Our study shows that complexes of histidine with Mg2+, Ca2+, Zn2+ are rather similar. In the isolated state, the most...

Assessing the Hydro-Mechanical Behavior of Undisturbed Collapsible Soils by Conducting Unsaturated Odeometer Tests Case Study: Northeastern Loess of Golestan Province

							Abstract

The deposits in many regions in Iran, particularly eastern zones like Golestan, Semnan, Yazd, Kerman, Hormozgan, Sistan and Baluchestan provinces consist of deposits of loess, which are categorized as collapsible soils. This kind of soil show sufficient shear strength and low deformability in dry or natural condition. However, if a structure is built on the soil and water seeps or infiltrates into the soil due to several reasons such as sewer leakage, water seepage or heavy precipitations in a way that its moisture reaches to a critical value, the interparticle bonds may break or the present suction in the soil may decrease in a way that the soil experiences sudden collapse, which may result...

The gas-phase metal affinities of histidine Li+, Na+ and K+ ions have been determined theoretically employing the hybrid B3LYP exchangecorrelation functional and using 6-311++G** basis sets. All computations indicate that the metal ion affinity decreases on going from Li+ to Na+ and K+ for the considered amino acid. Different types of M+ coordinations on several histidine conformers/tautomers were considered in detail. The optimized structures indicate that Li+ and Na+ prefer a tri-dentate coordination, bonding with a nitrogen atom of imidazole ring (N τ), NH2, and an oxygen atom of a carbonyl, while in the K+-histidine lowest-energy conformer, the cation appears to be bi-coordinated to both...

In this work, we address the issue of peculiar velocity measurement in a perturbed Friedmann universe using the deviations from measured luminosity distances of standard candles from background FRW universe. We want to show and quantify the statement that in intermediate redshifts ((Formula presented.)), deviations from the background FRW model are not uniquely governed by peculiar velocities. Luminosity distances are modified by gravitational lensing. We also want to indicate the importance of relativistic calculations for peculiar velocity measurement at all redshifts. Methods: For this task, we discuss the relativistic correction on luminosity distance and redshift measurement and show...

The seismic responses of steel water tanks are unconventional given their complex dynamic behavior and the sources of nonlinearity. Therefore, providing a reliable, finite-element model is instrumental in better understanding their dynamic behavior and improving the design conditions. This paper aims to evaluate the seismic performance of steel water tanks using shaking table tests and provide a finite-element reference model for simulating real-size, semi-anchored water tanks by conducting a series of large-scale tests in the Shaking Table Lab of the Sharif University of Technology (SUT). Since scaling the tank requires a difficult process involving changing the liquid density, this paper...

Background: Cerebral palsy is the most prevalent motor disorder among children. Despite extensive studies on motor modularity of gait of children with cerebral palsy, kinematic modularity of their gait has not been addressed which is the main goal of this study. Methods: The kinematics of the gait of 13 typical development children and 188 children with cerebral palsy was captured and analyzed, where the cerebral palsy children were grouped into True, Jump, Apparent, and Crouch. Non-negative matrix factorization method was used to extract the kinematic modulus of each group, which were then clustered to find their characteristic movement primitives. The movement primitives of groups were...

Considering non-ideal behavior of fluids and its effects on hydrodynamic and mass transfer in multiphase flow is very essential. Simulations were performed that takes into account the effects of mass transfer and mixture non-ideality on hydrodynamics reported by Irani et al. In this paper, by assuming the density of phases to be constant and Raullt's law instead of using EOS and fugacity coefficient definition, respectively for both the liquid and gas phases, the importance of non-ideality effects on mass transfer and hydrodynamic behavior was studied. The results for a system of octane/propane (T=323 K, P =445 kpa) also indicated that the assumption of constant density in simulation had...

Composite Reinforced Concrete-Steel (RCS) frames which have reinforced concrete columns and steel beams attracted a lot of attention in recent years. They take advantage from the benefits of both reinforced concrete and steel frames thorough using the optimum combination of concrete and steel structural elements. In this research six structures including three 3-story, and three 6-story buildings are designed in a region with very high seismicity risk. These structures include composite RCS moment frames, special steel moment frames, and reinforced concrete special moment frames. RCS moment frames which are designed they not only have reinforced concrete columns similar to reinforced...

Immobilization of Spent Ion Exchange Resins from Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant

Ion exchange resins are widely used in nuclear industries. These spent resins result in the production of a large amount of low and intermediate level radioactive wastes, therefore, the treatment and immobilization of spent ion exchange resins are the major problems in the development of nuclear power plants. In this research, in a laboratory scale, we tried to find the suitable procedure and formulation to immobilize a specific group of cation-exchange resins which is used in Bushehr nuclear power plant (AMBERLITE IRN-97H) in the cement matrix. The solidification matrix consists of five constituents: anti sulfate slag type portland cement, cation-exchange resins, diatomite, sodium hydroxide...

2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone has been offered as a mobile carrier in organic phase for the transport and selective separation of yttrium from aqueous media using a liquid membrane system. Perceivably, the use of n-propylamine (PA) in the source phase enhances the transport of yttrium ions. The extraction and stripping conditions have entirely been evaluated and explained. The suggested method has been utilized for the separation of yttrium(III) from its binary mixtures with strontium(II) and some other cations such as Ni2+, Co2+, Ag+, Fe2+, Al3+, Cu2+, Hg2+and Cs+ in aqueous solutions of pH 5.4 in the presence of PA, while 1 M nitric acid was acting as a stripping agent in the receiving...

We present a new high signal-to-noise ratio spectroscopic survey of the Northern hemisphere to probe the Local Bubble and its surroundings using the λ5780Å and λ5797Å diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs). We observed 432 sightlines to a distance of 200 pc over a duration of three years. In this study, we establish the λ5780 and λ5797 correlations with Na I, Ca II and EB-V, for both inside and outside the Local Bubble. The correlations show that among all neutral and ionized atoms, the correlation between Ca ii and λ5780 is stronger than its correlation with λ5797, suggesting that λ5780 is more associated with regions where Ca+ is more abundant. We study the λ5780 correlation with λ5797, which...
