    Abstract
We prepared three ferrite nanocatalysts: (i) copper ferrite (CuFe 2O4) (ii) ferrite where cobalt was substituted by nickel (Nix Co1-x Fe2O4, with x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6), and (iii) ferrite where nickel was substituted by zinc (Zn y Ni1-y Fe2O4 with y=1, 0.7, 0.5, 0.3), by the sol-gel method. The X-ray diffraction patterns show that the ferrite samples have been crystallized in the cubic spinel structural phase. We obtained the size of grains by field emission scanning electron microscopy images and their magnetic properties by vibrating sample magnetometer. Next, carbon nanotubes were grown on these nanocatalysts by the catalytic chemical vapor deposition method. We show that the catalytic...

    Abstract
Stabilization of slopes is considered as the aim of the several geotechnical applications such as embankment, tunnel, highway, building and railway and dam. Therefore, evaluation and precise prediction of the factor of safety (FoS) of slopes can be useful in designing these important structures. This research is carried out to evaluate the ability of Monte Carlo (MC) technique for the forecasting the FoS of many homogenous slopes in the static condition. Moreover, the sensitivity of the FoS on the effective parameters was identified. To do this, the most important factors on FoS, such as angle of internal friction (Formula presented.), slope angle (Formula presented.) and cohesion (Formula...

    Abstract
In this paper, we propose a new modeling approach for analytical evaluation of normalized throughput and average backoff time for IEEE 802.11 MAC standard in non-saturation mode and with Poisson arrivals. To this end, we map different stages of distributed coordinated function (DCF) onto different components of a closed multi-class BCMP queueing network with arbitrary service time distribution. At the last part of the paper, we illustrate the applicability of the proposed approach by some numerical results in both saturation and non-saturation modes and obtain average backoff time for different arrival rates. © 2007 IEEE

    Abstract
Ferrite nanocrystals are an interesting material due to their rich physical properties. Here we add nonmagnetic dopants Zn and Cu to nickel ferrite nanocrystals, Ni1-xMxFe2O4 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1, M = Cu, Zn), and study how relevant properties of the samples are modified accordingly. Basically, these dopings cause a rearrangement of Fe +3 ions into the two preexisting octahedral and tetrahedral sites. In fact, this, we show, induces pertinent magnetic properties of the doped samples. In the case of the Cu-doping, the Jahn-Teller effect also emerges, which we identify through the Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy of the samples. Moreover, we show an increase in the lattice parameters of the...

    Abstract
We analyze an experiment in which two distinct superconducting phases YBa2Cu3O7-δ (Y123) and Y 3Ba5Cu8O18-δ (Y358) coexisted. This experiment enabled us to characterize the recently introduced Y358 phase in contrast to the Y123 phase, thus to resolve some discrepancies reported in associated properties of Y358. Specifically, our experiment indicates the transition temperature Tmid C = 105 K and 94 K for Y358 and Y123, respectively, and that Y358 has five CuO2 planes and three CuO chains, with Pmm2 symmetry and lattice parameter (a, b, c) = (3.845, 3.894, 31.093) Å, in agreement with density functional theory predictions for this specific structure

Chitosan based supramolecular polypseudorotaxane as a pH-responsive polymer and their hybridization with mesoporous silica-coated magnetic graphene oxide for triggered anticancer drug delivery

    , Article Polymer (United Kingdom) ; Volume 76 , October , 2015 , Pages 52-61 ; 00323861 (ISSN) Pourjavadi, A ; Mazaheri Tehrani, Z ; Jokar, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2015
    Abstract
Chitosan based polyseudorotaxane was designed as a pH-responsive supramolecular polymeric shell around the mesoporous silica-coated magnetic graphene oxide (Fe3O4@GO@mSiO2). It was used for doxorubicin delivery at cancerous tissue in a controlled manner. The core-shell nanocarrier was formed due to electrostatic interaction between chitosan and carboxylated surface of Fe3O4@GO@mSiO2. The maximum release occurred at pH 5.5 (pH of endosomes) because the shell collapsed at this pH. The drug nanocarrier has potential application in tumor therapy due to good pH-sensitive behavior, improved solubility and high colloidal stability in...

    Abstract
Bridgehead C-H bond dissociation enthalpies of 105.7 ± 2.0, 102.9 ± 1.7, and 102.4 ± 1.9 kcal mol -1 for bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane, bicyclo[2.2.2]octane, and adamantane, respectively, were determined in the gas phase by making use of a thermodynamic cycle (i.e., BDE(R-H) = ΔH° acid(H-X) - IE(H •) + EA(X •)). These results are in good accord with high-level G3 theory calculations, and the experimental values along with G3 predictions for bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane, bicyclo[2.1.1]hexane, bicyclo[3.1.1]heptane, and bicyclo[4.2.1]nonane were found to correlate with the flexibility of the ring system. Rare examples of alkyl anions in the gas phase are also provided

    Abstract
In the present study, we designed a pH-responsive drug nanocarrier based on polyamidoamine-modified Fe3O4 nanoparticles coated by PEGylated starch-co-poly(acrylic acid). This carrier was used for the controlled release of doxorubicin as an anticancer drug model. The purpose of using the polyethylene glycol moiety is to generate a biostable nanocarrier in blood stream as it has been reported widely in the pharmaceutical literature. The use of a poly(acrylic acid) segment also provided pH-sensitivity to the polymer. Besides, the magnetic nanoparticles facilitate the cancer cell targeting with an external magnetic field located near the tumor site. This carrier was...

    Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2013 reported that more than seven million unexpected losses every year are credited to air contamination. Because of incredible adaptability and expense viability of fibrous filters, they are broadly used for removing particulates from gasses. The influence of appropriate parameters, e.g., the fiber arrangement, solid volume fraction (SVF or α), fluid flow face velocity (mean inlet velocity), and filter thickness (Ix), on pressure drop and deposition efficiency are researched. Furthermore, to study the effects of variation of the laminar flow regime and fiber’s cross-sectional shape on the deposition of particles, only a single square fiber has been...

Air pollutants are among the hazardous materials for human health. Therefore, many scientists are interested in removing particles from the carrier gas. In this study, flow of air and airborne particles through the virtual multi-fibrous filters that consist of different fiber cross-sectional shapes and arrangements is simulated where particle deposition and filtration performance are studied. Regular and irregular arrangements of fibers with the circular, elliptical, and equilateral triangular cross sections have been considered. Effects of important parameters such as solid volume fraction, internal structure, and filter thickness on particle collection efficiency and pressure drop are...

Color Image Segmentation Using a Fuzzy Inference System

    , Article 7th International Conference on Digital Information Processing and Communications, ICDIPC 2019, 2 May 2019 through 4 May 2019 ; 2019 , Pages 78-83 ; 9781728132969 (ISBN) Tehrani, A. K. N ; Macktoobian, M ; Kasaei, S ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2019
    Abstract
A novel method is proposed in the scope of image segmentation that solves this problem by breaking it into two main blocks. The first block's functionality is a method to anticipate the color basis of each segment in segmented images. One of the challenges of image segmentation is the inappropriate distribution of colors in the RGB color space. To determine the color of each segment, after mapping the input image onto the HSI color space, the image colors are classified into some clusters by exploiting the K-Means. Then, the list of cluster centers is winnowed down to a short list of colors based on a set of criteria. The second block of the proposed method defines how each pixel of the...

Estimation of phase signal change in neuronal current MRI for evoke response of tactile detection with realistic somatosensory laminar network model

    Abstract
Magnetic field generated by neuronal activity could alter magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signals but detection of such signal is under debate. Previous researches proposed that magnitude signal change is below current detectable level, but phase signal change (PSC) may be measurable with current MRI systems. Optimal imaging parameters like echo time, voxel size and external field direction, could increase the probability of detection of this small signal change. We simulate a voxel of cortical column to determine effect of such parameters on PSC signal. We extended a laminar network model for somatosensory cortex to find neuronal current in each segment of pyramidal neurons (PN). 60,000...
