Abstract
In this study the effect of stress field on delamination and fiber/ matrix debonding in laminated composite panels is investigated from the micro-mechanical point of view by means of 3-D Finite Element Models. Specifically, the behavior of two-layer cross-ply symmetric laminates made up of SCS-6/Ti-24Al-11Nb Intermetallic Matrix Composite (IMC) during cooling from the processing temperature is studied. The results show that large plastic strains occur at the fiber/ matrix interface at the fiber end on the laminate free edge which may eventually extend to the interface of the layers of the laminate inflicting delamination damage. This phenomenon is more serious at the corner areas of the...

Abstract
CH3 NH3 PbI3 (MAPbI3) thin film solar cells, which are reported at laboratory efficiency scale of nearly 22%, are the subject of much attention by energy researchers due to their low cost buildup, acceptable efficiency, high absorption coefficient and diffusion length. The main purpose of this research is to simulate the structure of thin film perovskite solar cells through numerical simulation of SCAPS based on the empirical data for different hole transport layers. After simulating the initial structure of FTO/TiO2/CH3NH3PbI3/Spiro-OMeTAD solar cell, the hole transport layer Spiro-OMeTAD thickness was optimized on a small scale using modeling. The researchers also sought to reduce the...
Flow Simulation for Vacuum-assisted Resin Transfer Molding in Manufacturing of Composite Structures
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abedian, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the common and efficient methods in the construction of large-scale structures from composites is the Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM) method, which is widely used in the automotive industry, wind turbine blades, warships and pleasure boats, etc. VARTM is one of the liquid molding methods in which one side of the closed mold is replaced with a vacuum bag and the resin flows into the mold only with the help of air pressure (pressure of one atmosphere). One of the main challenges in the vacuum resin molding process is to be aware of the physics governing the flow motion in the porous mold so that the dry spots formed in the mold can be located accordingly. On the other...
Studying the Effect of Thermal Loading on Delamination Phenomenon of Composite Materials using Continuum Damage Mechanics
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abedian, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Metal and inter-metallic matrix composites offer high performance materials suitable for many low weight applications which are of growing interest in high tech industries. However, to submit their entire potential applications, their complex mechanical behavior has to be understood. Nevertheless, one of the major setbacks of designing with these materials has been the delamination phenomenon. So far, this phenomenon has been considered from macro-mechanical point of view regarding laminates to be semi-isotropic or orthotropic; which indicates the importance of micro-mechanical research to be done. Furthermore, the fact that macroscopic response and failure mechanisms of these composites are...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sarbazi Azad, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Switching as one of important characteristics of on-chip network affects on power consumption and performance. In general there are two switching methods as circuit-switching and packet-switching. Hybrid switching includes both switching to have both resource utilization and scalability of packet switching and low power consumption and improved latency of circuit switching. Also topology is another network attribute that greatly affects the power, performance, cost, and design time/effort of NoCs. In this thesis, we propose a novel NoC architecture which holds both fixed connections between adjacent nodes and long connections virtually connecting non-adjacent nodes. Our proposed NoC...

Abstract
This research investigates a three dimensional parametric risk assessment model considering the 3rd factor to be the impact on business. In order to represent the 3rd order risk assessment matrix monitoring the impact of safety reports on the continuous economical performance of the airline, the other two factors, probability of safety and severity are redefined. Introducing two quantitative and qualitative assessment methodologies, the overall risk of the organization can be studied by means of Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). providing an adequate background to define the safety goals of the organization

Abstract
As a personality trait, ‘grit’ has been defined as a combination of perseverance and passion for long-term goals. Past research in social psychology has found grit as an important predictor of success across different populations in various academic and non-academic areas. Since successful mastery of a second language (L2) is highly dependent on learners’ sustained effort, the notion of grit and its relationship to language achievement gains immediate relevance in second language acquisition (SLA). The present study introduces the notion of grit and examines its relationship with motivational behaviors and language achievement in a sample of English as a foreign language learners (n = 191)....

Abstract
In this paper, we propose a hybrid packet-circuit switching for networks-on-chip to benefit from the advantages of both switching mechanisms. Integrating circuit and packet switching into a single NoC is achieved by partitioning the link bandwidth and router data-path and control-path elements into two parts and allocating each part to one of the switching methods. In this NoC, during injection in the source node, packets are initially forwarded on the packet-switched sub-network, but keep requesting a circuit towards the destination node. The circuit-switched part, at each cycle, collects the circuit construction requests, performs arbitration among the conflicting requests, and constructs...

Abstract
During design, microsatellites are subject to different changes like the changes in weight, location and dimension of parts and elements of subsystems and the payload. These changes should be accumulated by the structure subsystem in a way that some key structural parameters like the center of gravity (CG) and inertia moments remain unchanged. This subject is also important regarding the design of a modular structure of a satellite. In the present study it is tried to accommodate any changes in weight and location of any part(s) and element(s) of a microsatellite by optimum (minimum) rearrangement of other parts on their plane of rest in order to keep the CG and inertia moments unchanged....
Experimental and Numerical Investigation the Effect of Geometry on Hydrodynamic Performance in Surface Piercing Propeller
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Seif, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Due to the suitable performance characteristics and the widespread use of Surface Piercing Propellers (SPPs) in high-speed crafts, many experiments and numerical studies have been conducted in this field. Due to the lack of a comprehensive series similar to conventional propellers in the field of SPPs, in this thesis, it has been tried to personalize the suitable basis by conducting two separate experimental tests in the National Iranian Maritime Laboratory (NIMALA) towing tank and the cavitation tunnel at Sharif University using computational fluid dynamics method and the commercial code STAR-CCM+. For this purpose, a wide range of phenomena and effective parameters on hydrodynamic...

Abstract
Topology is an important network attribute that greatly affects the power, performance, cost, and design time/effort of NoCs. In this paper, we propose a novel NoC architecture that can exploit the benefits of both application-specific and regular NoC topologies. To this end, a subset of NoC links bypass the router pipeline stages and directly connect remotely located nodes. This results in an NoC which holds both fixed connections between adjacent nodes and long connections virtually connecting non-adjacent nodes. These shortcut paths are constructed at run-time by employing a simple and fast mechanism composed of two processes: on-chip traffic monitoring and path reconfiguration. The...
Development of a new analytical tool to design hierarchical truss beams for natural frequency

Abstract
A set of recursive equations are introduced for optimum design of a wide range of hierarchical truss beams to satisfy a minimum required natural frequency. The design equations are based on a general analytical solution, which are derived based on a critical dimensional analysis. A practical example is examined in both 2D and 3D spaces, which promises substantial mass reduction, as much as 99%, when using high order hierarchical truss beams. The results are verified by numerical evaluation of three case studies. The approach looks also very promising to design nanostructures when it comes to the problems associated with vibration

Abstract
Meta-heuristic algorithms have been successfully applied to solve the redundancy allocation problem in recent years. Among these algorithms, the electromagnetism-like mechanism (EM) is a powerful population-based algorithm designed for continuous decision spaces. This paper presents an efficient memory-based electromagnetism-like mechanism called MBEM to solve the redundancy allocation problem. The proposed algorithm employs a memory matrix in local search to save the features of good solutions and feed it back to the algorithm. This would make the search process more efficient. To verify the good performance of MBEM, various test problems, especially the 33 well-known benchmark instances in...
