Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar is known for its superiority over conventional radar due to its antenna and waveform diversity. However, the increased hardware cost (due to multiple transmitters and receivers), power consumption (due to multiple transmitters and pulses), and computational complexity (due to numerous pulses) form the drawbacks of MIMO radar. In conventional arrays, improving angular resolution requires larger aperture which demands more number of elements. On the other hand, array thinning is an efficient method of achieving narrow beamwidth (high angular resolution) with fewer number of elements. Brushless Doubly Fed Induction Generator (BDFIG) has been recently proposed to be used in variable speed wind turbines. This paper intends to investigate the influence of certain model simplifications to obtain a reduced-order model of a wind turbine with BDFIG suitable for transient studies. To achieve this goal, small signal analysis is performed for a recently manufactured 250 kVA BDFIG to obtain system modes and their participation factors. Weighting elements to achieve radiation patterns with desired characteristics is a classical work in phased array antennas. Abstract
This paper discusses the dynamic behavior of the brushless doubly fed induction generator during the grid faults which lead to a decrease in the generator's terminal voltage. The variation of the fluxes, back EMFs, and currents are analyzed during and after the voltage dip. Furthermore, two alternative approaches are proposed to improve the generator ride-through capability using crowbar and series dynamic resistor circuits. Appropriate values for their resistances are calculated analytically. Compressive sensing (CS) has been widely used in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) radar in recent years. Unlike traditional MIMO radar, detection/estimation of targets in a CS-based MIMO radar is accomplished via sparse recovery. In this article, for a CS-based colocated MIMO radar with linear arrays, we attempt to improve the target detection performance by reducing the coherence of the associated sensing matrix. In this study, the steady-state operation of the brushless doubly-fed machine (BDFM) in various modes is physically elaborated and the active power flow and torque analysis are presented for each operating mode alongside confirmatory experimental results on a 4/8 pole D160 size machine.
