, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mousavi, Saeed (Author) ; Vafaee, Abolhasan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
For many years of tall buildings with regard to the development and progress towns are necessary for the urbanite of the city and are considered as progress of the symbols societies. These buildings because of high wore their features special treatment under the influence lateral loads like the earthquake. In a way that today is an important issue in seismology and Earthquake Engineering all the powerful movements of the earth and its effect on the performance of the workforce special buildings as tall. Two points in this important subject. First modeling and simulations of the Most Powerful Earthquakes that in general occur in the field of near source earthquake generator. The earthquake of...

Production of zinc oxide nanoparticles by liquid phase processing: An investigation on optical properties

    , Article 2nd International Conference on Diffusion in Solids and Liquids, DSL-2006, Aveiro, 26 July 2006 through 28 July 2006 ; Volume 553 , 2007 , Pages 252-256 ; 02555476 (ISSN); 0878494383 (ISBN); 9780878494385 (ISBN) Vafaee, M ; Youzbashizade, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In the recent years, many researchers have been interested in nanoparticles because of their unique properties. In this study, a method for producing ZnO nanoparticle colloids is proposed. The colloids were characterized by spectroscopic analyzer. By absorption spectrum study, we found out that colloids were consisted of nanoparticles with less than 10 nanometer size. The quantum confinement effect in these spectrums was recognized through blue shift of onset absorption wavelengths. These wavelengths shift from 370 nm to 340 nm by decreasing the particles size. Transmittion electron micrographs showed formation of zinc oxide nanoparticles

Preparation and characterization of ZnO nanoparticles by a novel sol-gel route

    , Article Materials Letters ; Volume 61, Issue 14-15 , 2007 , Pages 3265-3268 ; 0167577X (ISSN) Vafaee, M ; Sasani Ghamsari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, ZnO nanoparticles with 3 to 4 nm size and spherical shape have been prepared. For the first time, TEA (triethanolamine) as a surfactant has been used for the preparation of ZnO nanoparticles. The best concentration of each component was adjusted through comparison between different sol absorption spectra. The best sol regarding its optical property was subjected to analysis by photoluminescence spectroscopy. TEM micrograph and electron diffraction pattern of these particles were obtained to represent the morphology and crystalline phase of the particles, respectively. Experimental results have shown that the prepared zinc oxide nanoparticles by this method have higher...

Rehabilitation of Concrete Structures Using 3D Panels

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Hadi (Author) ; Vafaii, Abolhasan (Supervisor) ; Gerami, Mohsen (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
A high percentage of reinforced concrete buildings are not earthquake resistant because they are often designed based on old regulations, which do not satisfy the requirements of new earthquake codes. Construction weaknesses make buildings more vulnerable, and thus, different approaches are needed to strengthen structures to resist lateral forces. 3D Panel system brings together the best qualities of in-situ and precast systems and improves their shortcoming. It includes the advantages of precast systems, such as having relatively low labor costs, less waste material and machinery, reducing implementation time and improving quality control. At the same time, serious problems related to...

Evaluation of dike-type causeway impacts on the flow and salinity regimes in Urmia Lake, Iran

    , Article Journal of Great Lakes Research ; Volume 35, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 13-22 ; 03801330 (ISSN) Zeinoddini, M ; Tofighi, M. A ; Vafaee, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Urmia Lake, located in a closed basin in north-west Iran, is the largest lake (5000-6000 km2) in the Middle East. It is very saline with total dissolved salts reaching 200 g/l compared with a normal seawater salinity of about 35 g/l. The construction of a causeway, which was initiated in 1979 but then abandoned until the early 2000s, is near completion and will provide road access between the western and eastern provinces. The causeway has an opening 1.25 km long and divides Urmia Lake into a northern and southern basin and restricts water exchange. The flow and salinity regimes are affected by the presence of this new causeway, and there are concerns over the well being of the Artemia...

ANFIS modeling of rhamnolipid breakthrough curves on activated carbon

    , Article Chemical Engineering Research and Design ; Volume 126 , 2017 , Pages 67-75 ; 02638762 (ISSN) Baghban, A ; Sasanipour, J ; Haratipour, P ; Alizad, M ; Vafaee Ayouri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Owning to interesting properties of biosurfactants such as biodegradability and lower toxicity, they have broad application in the food industry, healthy products, and bioremediation as well as for oil recovery. The present study was aimed to develop a GA-ANFIS model for predicting the breakthrough curves for rhamnolipid adsorption over activated carbon. To that end, a set of 296 adsorption data points were utilized to train the proposed FIS structure. Different graphical and statistical methods were also used to evaluate the model's accuracy and reliability. Results were then compared to those of the previously reported Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Group Method Data Handling (GMDH)...

Investigation of Various Steps in Reverse Engineering of Complex Parts Based on Errors of Surface Such as Deflection

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saadat, Mohsen (Author) ; Movahedi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Vafaee Sefat, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This paper presents a surface generation model for sculptured surface productions using the ball end milling process. Dimensional measurement using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) has been commonly adapted in advanced manufacturing environment to ensure that manufacturing products have high quality and reliability. To conduct dimensional inspection efficiency in a computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) environment, there is an urgent need to derive a sampling strategy which can be used to specify a set of measuring points that lead to accurate sampling while minimizing the sampling time and cost. Owing to the variations in characteristics of geometric feature and manufacturing process,...

    Abstract
Analysis of cancer mutational signatures have been instrumental in identification of responsible endogenous and exogenous molecular processes in cancer. The quantitative approach used to deconvolute mutational signatures is becoming an integral part of cancer research. Therefore, development of a stand-alone tool with a user-friendly interface for analysis of cancer mutational signatures is necessary. In this manuscript we introduce CANCERSIGN, which enables users to identify 3-mer and 5-mer mutational signatures within whole genome, whole exome or pooled samples. Additionally, this tool enables users to perform clustering on tumor samples based on the proportion of mutational signatures in...
