Optical Injection Phase-Locked Loop Application in Continuous-variable Quantum Key Distributions

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Khaksar, Zeinab Sadat (Author) ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The primary objective of this thesis is to provide solutions addressing some security loopholes in continuous variables quantum key distribution protocols. The coherent detection method is utilized in this particular quantum key distribution scheme, which is a phase-sensitive detection. To measure in the quantum noise limit in the detection part, we need a local optical oscillator, which must possess a high intensity and a consistent phase correlation with the quantum signal. Therefore, reconstructing the emitter’s reference phase in the receiver’s detection system is considered as one of the most critical challenges in these protocols. In order to attain this goal, in the early versions of...

Using Information Beyond Text to Generate Language Embedding Vectors

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zeinab Sadat Taghavi (Author) ; Sameti, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we introduce a novel Artificial Intelligence (AI) system inspired by the philosophical and psychoanalytical concept of imagination as a ``Re-construction of Experiences". Our AI system is equipped with an imagination-inspired module that bridges the gap between textual inputs and other modalities, enriching the derived information based on previously learned experiences. A unique feature of our system is its ability to formulate independent perceptions of inputs. This leads to unique interpretations of a concept that may differ from human interpretations but are equally valid, a phenomenon we term as ``Interpretable Misunderstanding". We employ large-scale models,...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ziabakhsh, Zeinab Sadat (Author) ; Saadatmand, Maryam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
According to today’s medicine progress, the need for improving the medical facilities have been increased. Within the human body, the biomolecules concentration gradient is regulating the cell functions. Biological processes such as immune response, wound healing, and cancer metastasis have been affected by the bimolecular concentration gradient. So understanding the cell behavior in the presence of a chemical gradient can improve the understanding from these biological processes, and also would help in medical researches. On the other hand, finding the appropriate dose of the drugs and in some cases finding the most effective drug is a clinical challenge that made a new field of research in...

The development of clean, renewable and alternative sources of fossil fuels has increased in recent years due to various factors such as environmental pollution, reduced fossil fuel resources and increased energy consumption. The application of microbial fuel cells is one of the clean energy production methods using renewable sources such as municipal sewage. The microbial fuel cell converts the chemical energy stored in organic materials into electrical energy and simultaneously purifies the sewage. Increasing current density and power density are the most important challenges for microbial fuel cells. In this study, the two biocatalysts of Shewanella Oneidensis MR1 and Escherichia coli...

Theoretical Investigation Of Chaotic Behavior In Optical Microresonators

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Vahedi, Mohammad (Author) ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, chaotic behavior of a photonic micro-resonator is investigated. First, a Lagrangian formulation is introduced for the system. Then, by applying a multi-reflection method, a closed formula is obtained for the radiation pressure. Use of this equation in the coupled differential equations describing dynamics of the problem gives us a suitable model for exploring the behavior of the micro-resonator. In this stage, we compare our results with experimental data too. On the other hand, using above mentioned formulation, chaotic behavior of the micro-resonator is investigated using numerical method. Finally, a period-doubling route to chaos appears in our results as is observed in...

On AdS/CFT of galilean conformal field theories

    , Article Journal of High Energy Physics ; Volume 2009, Issue 8 , 2009 ; 11266708 (ISSN) Alishahiha, M ; Davody, A ; Vahedi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
We study a new contraction of a d+1 dimensional relativistic conformal algebra where n+1 directions remain unchanged. For n = 0,1 the resultant algebras admit infinite dimensional extension containing one and two copies of Virasoro algebra, respectively. For 1$">n>1 the obtained algebra is finite dimensional containing an so(2,n+1) subalgebra. The gravity dual is provided by taking a Newton-Cartan like limit of the Einstein's equations of AdS space which singles out an AdS n+2 spacetime. The infinite dimensional extension of n = 0,1 cases may be understood from the fact that the dual gravities contain AdS 2 and AdS 3 factor, respectively. We also explore how the AdS/CFT correspondence works...

    Abstract
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems are so popular in aerial imaging because of their high resolution. Ground moving target indication (GMTI) is one of the most challenging problems in this field. The use of multiple antennas in transmit and receive is an innovative idea that can overcome the limitations of SAR systems. In this paper, after modelling the received signal and focusing it, we propose an algorithm for GMTI with the use of compressed sensing. The proposed algorithm has low complexity compared to similar algorithms. Simulation results show that this approach is accurate in estimation of positions and velocities of moving targets. © 2018 IEEE

Study on The Influence of Nanoparticles and Magnetic Field on The Liquid-Liquid Mass Transfer Coefficients

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vahedi, Amid (Author) ; Molaei Dehkordi, Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles were synthesized and coated with Oleic Acid using the co-precipitation method. The particles were characterized using DLS, FT-IR, SEM, XRD, VSM and UV-Vis spectrophotometry analysis. The mean size of particles was 28.8 nm and the FT-IR analysis indicated that Oleic Acid was coated suitably on the nanoparticles. The vsm test indicated no hysteresis loop for the particles, defining the superparamagnetism of them. A nanofluid containing nanoparticles in 5wt% Acetic Acid in Toluene as the base fliud was prepared. The stability of this nanofluid was determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometry to be less more then 95% in the first two hours. This nanofluid is used as...

Flight Formation Control & Obstacle Avoidance of a UAV Team Using Fuzzy Predictive Artificial Potential Field Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vahedi, Amir Mohammad (Author) ; Nobahari, Hadi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis focuses on the development of a flight formation control algorithm and obstacle avoidance of a UAV team using fuzzy predictive artificial potential field (FPAPF) method. One of the common methods for path generation and obstacle avoidance is the artificial potential field (APF) method. The basis of the APF method is that the UAV is attracted to the target point and repelled from the obstacles by using the potential fields of attraction and repulsion. The popularity of this method is due to its computational simplicity and efficiency. The APF method has limitations due to constant attraction and repulsion coefficients. The proposed real-time FPAPF method uses fuzzy logic to...

A variational method for designing wavelets to match a specified signal

    , Article Signal Processing ; Volume 88, Issue 10 , 2008 , Pages 2417-2424 ; 01651684 (ISSN) Bahrampour, A. R ; Izadnia, S ; Vahedi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2008
    Abstract
In this paper, we have developed an efficient method for obtaining an orthonormal wavelet that is matched to a given signal. The error between the wavelet and the given signal is minimized subject to the constraints of the amplitude and phase of the band-limited wavelet spectrum. To consider the constraints of the minimization problem, the Lagrange multipliers technique is applied. Variational method reduced the optimal matching problem to the solution of a set of functional equations for the amplitude and phase of the wavelet spectrum. Continuous functional equations were written in terms of Fourier coefficients of the phase of the transfer function of the quadrature low pass filter at the...

Analysis of chaotic behavior in an optical microresonator

    , Article Optics Communications ; Vol. 332, issue , 2014 , pp. 31-35 ; ISSN: 00304018 Vahedi, M ; Bahrampour, A. R ; Safari, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
In this paper, for the first time, chaotic behavior of a classical moving-mirror Fabry-Perot cavity is obtained by finding numerical solution of a system of delay differential equations (previously obtained by a phenomenological approach (T. Carmon, M. C. Cross, K. J. Vahala, Phys. Rev. Lett. 98 (2007) 167203)). Fourier transform of the electromagnetic power for different values of pump power is calculated. By increasing the power, a period-doubling route to chaos is observed. Since the quality factor of the cavity has an important role in the chaotic behavior, variation of Lyapunov exponent and threshold power for the onset of chaos versus quality factor are investigated. A near linear...

Performance optimization of a long rod penetrator penetrating into a semi-infinite target considering bending characteristics

    , Article Turkish Journal of Engineering and Environmental Sciences ; Volume 33, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 9-20 ; 13000160 (ISSN) Vahedi, K ; Zohoor, H ; Nezamabadi, A ; Zolfaghari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
In this article a new parameter is introduced that optimizes penetration depth of a long rod penetrating into a semi-infinite target. This parameter helps to optimize penetration depth when the projectile is subjected to transverse loading. This parameter is defined using a simple assumption governing bending moment and deflection of the rod as well as the experimental observation of long rod penetrators having aspect ratios (L/D) of greater than 30. In this article the length of the rod that sustains allowable bending stress but does not fail is calculated. Using the results of the bending analysis and solution of the Alekseevskii & Tate (AT) equation, an analytical method to optimize...

    Non-relativistic CFT and semi-classical strings

    , Article Journal of High Energy Physics ; Volume 2009, Issue 3 , 2009 ; 11266708 (ISSN) Akhavan, A ; Alishahiha, M ; Davody, A ; Vahedi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
We study different features of 3D non-relativistic CFT using gravity description. As the corresponding gravity solution can be embedded into the type IIB string theory, we study semi-classical closed/open strings in this background. In particular we consider folded rotating and circular pulsating closed strings where we find the anomalous dimension of the dual operators as a function of their quantum numbers. We also consider moving open strings in this background which can be used to compute the drag force. In particular we find that for slowly moving particles, the energy is lost exponentially and the characteristic time is given in terms of the temperature, while for fast moving particles...

    Fermions in nonrelativistic AdS/CFT correspondence

    , Article Physical Review D - Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology ; Volume 79, Issue 8 , 2009 ; 15507998 (ISSN) Akhavan, A ; Alishahiha, M ; Davody, A ; Vahedi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We extend the nonrelativistic AdS/CFT correspondence to the fermionic fields. In particular, we study the two point function of a fermionic operator in nonrelativistic CFTs by making use of a massive fermion propagating in geometries with Schrödinger group isometry. Although the boundary of the geometries with Schrödinger group isometry differ from that in AdS geometries where the dictionary of AdS/CFT is established, using the general procedure of AdS/CFT correspondence, we see that the resultant two point function has the expected form for fermionic operators in nonrelativistic CFTs, though a nontrivial regularization may be needed. © 2009 The American Physical Society

Analysis of High-Tc Superconducting Plasmonic Waveguides

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vahedi, Zeinab (Author) ; Rejaei, Behzad (Supervisor) ; Fardmanesh, Mahdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Surface plasmons are the result of a resonant interaction between the waves and the mobile electrons at the interface between negative and positive permittivity materials stimulated by incident light. Due to their specific quantum mechanical nature and zero electrical resistance, superconductors are capable of supporting low-loss plasma waves with extremely large propagation length. In this study, palsmon confinement in some superconducting waveguide structures has been measured by computing the effective index parameter. Superconductors are classified in to high-Tc an low-Tc categories. It is not possible for plasma waves to propagate in low-Tc superconductors, because the plasma energy...

Analyzing the Influence of Complementors’ Quantity and Diversity on Platform Adoption

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vahedi, Maral (Author) ; Miremadi, Iman (Supervisor) ; Talebian, Masoud (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study examines the relationship between the number and diversity of complementary products and the success of video game platforms. The primary question of this research is why platforms like the PlayStation 5 have achieved widespread success, while other lesser-known platforms have faced failure. Do the depth and breadth of complementary products offered on platforms, as suggested by theories in the platform literature, explain this success? The findings of this research can help companies in the video game industry and related sectors better understand the factors influencing platform success and make more targeted investments in complementary products. Furthermore, this study holds...
