    , Article Heat and Mass Transfer/Waerme- und Stoffuebertragung ; Volume 43, Issue 9 , 2007 , Pages 881-894 ; 09477411 (ISSN) Valipour, M. S ; Saboohi, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
A mathematical model is presented to simulate the multiple heterogeneous reactions with complex set of physicochemical and thermal phenomena in a moving bed of porous pellets. This model is based on both heat and mass transfer phenomena of gaseous species in a porous medium including chemical reactions at interfaces whose areas vary during the conversion. This model accounts for both the exothermic and endothermic reactions which can be equimolar or nonequimolar. Furthermore it considers simultaneously the reactions in the nonisothermal transient condition. A powerful technique based upon finite volume fully implicit approach has been implemented to solve the complicated governing equations...

    Abstract
A mathematical model is developed to investigate the reduction process of hematite in the reduction zone of the Midrex shaft furnace as a moving bed reactor. It is described as a counter-current moving bed cylindrical reactor in which hematite pellets are reduced by a gaseous mixture of hydrogen, water vapour, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, namely Syngas. It is laterally injected into the bed at the lower part close to the bottom. Governing equations, including continuity, momentum, energy and mass equations, are derived based on the conceptual model for both gas and solid phases in the cylindrical coordinate system. A three interface unreacted shrinking core model (USCM) is applied to...

    Abstract
A mathematical model has been developed to simulate heterogeneous reactions with a complex set of physicochemical and thermal phenomena in a packed bed. These include the chemical reaction itself, the transport of gaseous species in the pores, the generation or consumption of heat by the reactions, and the transport of heat in the porous domain. Solution of complicated sets of governing equations is based upon the concept of a finite volume fully implicit approach. The model has then been applied to analyze the reduction of a hematite pellet in a moving packed bed reactor. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Valipour, Mahdi (Author) ; Hosseini, Abolfazl (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Since the beginning of discussion on neutron-gamma discrimination, different methods were suggested for this purpose. In early 2000s, Analogue methods were mainly used to discriminate the spectrum in mixed fields which mostly depends on electronic modules used in the lab setup; Nowadays, with improvements in digital pulse processing techniques, analyzing mixed neutron-gamma fields for pulse discrimination is also available. In this research, the recent MC developed toolkit called GEANT4 is used to simulate the 3-inch BC501A scintillation detector and 500 mCi Am-Be source (that emits neutron and gamma at the same time). For the next step, an experiment with same source and detector was done...

The images decomposed with Nonsubsampled Contourlet Transform and then two images were fused with applying fusion rules. The coefficients of the low frequency band are combined by a maximal energy rule and coefficients of the high frequency bands are combined by a maximal variance rule. Finally, visual and quantitative criteria were used to...

A robust dual source level set method for three-dimensional echocardiography image segmentation

    , Article Journal of Theoretical and Applied Information Technology ; Volume 95, Issue 21 , 2017 , Pages 5701-5710 ; 19928645 (ISSN) Sahba, N ; Fatemizadeh, E ; Behnam, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
Echocardiography as a common place device has been widely used for diagnosis. Segmentation of left ventricle just using the standard level set formulation based on the magnitude of intensity cannot restrict the contour evolution completely due to the lack of sharp edges. This paper aims to introduce a robust method for segmentation of three-dimensional echocardiography images based on two boundary maps namely distance map and probabilistic map as stopping criteria of contour evolution which are extracted using two different approaches. The distance map is extracted by applying Free Form Deformation (FFD) method on manually determined landmarks of initial spherical volume to register the...

Automatic extraction of the varying regions of magnetic resonance images is required as a prior step in a diagnostic intelligent system. The sparsest representation and high-dimensional feature are provided based on learned dictionary. The classification is done by employing the technique that computes the reconstruction error locally and non-locally of each pixel. The acquired results from the real and simulated images are superior to the best MRI segmentation method with regard to the stability advantages. In addition, it is segmented exactly through a formula taken from the distance and sparse factors. Also, it is done automatically taking sparse factor in unsupervised clustering methods...

    Abstract
Sparse representation is a powerful tool for image processing, including noise removal. It is an effective method for Gaussian noise removal by taking advantage of a fixed and learned dictionary. In this study, the variable distribution of Rician noise is reduced in magnetic resonance (MR) images by sparse representation based on reconstruction error sets. Standard deviation of Gaussian noise is used to find these errors locally. The proposed method represents two formulas for local error calculation using standard deviation of noise. The acquired results from the real and simulated images are comparable, and in some cases, better than the best Rician noise removal method due to the...

    Abstract
A mathematical time-dependent and isothermal model based on the grain model has been developed to simulate the kinetic and thermal behaviors of a porous iron oxide pellet undergoing chemical reactions with a mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and water vapor. Its novelty consists in fact that it can deal with a multi-species reducing gas and oxide pellet. In spite of previous models in which the pure reductant was applied as reducing gas, this model can indicate an actual view of pellet reduction including the effects of reducing gas utility and reducing gas ratio. A finite volume fully implicit technique was applied for solving the governing equations. The model has been...
