Abstract
Silver can inhibit bacterial activity. Previous studies showed that high concentration of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in compared to its lower concentrations is toxic for human health. However, by decreasing concentration of AgNPs, antibacterial activity also decreases. In this study, we investigated synergistic inhibitory activity of the combination of AgNPs and garlic oil nanoemulsion (GONE) for increase antibacterial activity of AgNPs at lower concentrations. AgNPs and GONE with sizes of 30.7 and 19.3 nm were synthesized and prepared by chemical reduction and low energy method, respectively. Physicochemical properties of AgNPs and GONE were investigated. The minimum inhibitory...

Abstract
We study a two-player zero-sum game in which one of the players is restricted to mixed strategies with limited randomness. More precisely, we consider the maximum payoff that the maximizer (Alice) can secure with limited randomness h. This problem finds an operational interpretation in the context of repeated games with non-ideal sources of randomness. The computational aspects of this problem has not received much attention in the game theory literature. We begin by observing the equivalence of this problem with entropy minimization problems in other scientific contexts. Next, we provide two explicit lower bounds on the entropy-payoff tradeoff curve. To do this, we provide and utilize new...

Abstract
We study zero-sum repeated games in which the maximizer (player or team) is restricted to strategies with limited randomness. Particularly, we analyze the maxmin payoff of the maximizer in two models: the first model forces the maximizer to randomize her actions just by conditioning them to the outcomes of an observed random source. In the second model, the maximizer is a team of players who are free to privately randomize their corresponding actions but do not have access to any explicit source of shared randomness needed for coordination. While prior works adopted the method of types to address these problems, we use the idea of random hashing being the core of randomness extractors. In...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ebrahimi, Abbas (Supervisor)
Abstract
The importance of creating a fluid flow with accurate and controllable flow in many industries is undeniable. There are several ways to create this type of flow, and a variety of pumps can be used to create such a flow. The presence of noise, limitations in reducing the flow rate (sometimes in some pumps the flow rate can not be reduced to a minimum), depreciation costs and many other limitations, reduce the attractiveness of using conventional pumps in some applications. The subject of this project is the design and construction of piezoelectric based micro-pumps to solve the above problems. In many applications, the need for fluid flow with very low flow and high quality and accuracy is...

Abstract
This paper provides a feasibility study on a low cost system called Hydrokinetic Wells turbine for surface wave energy conversion without using plenum chambers. The elimination of the plenum chamber and its complicated valve systems can reduce the expenses of wave energy conversion up to 23%.The feasibility process were done for high and low frequency conditions. For the low frequency waves, we offer the 300 rpm angular velocity as an optimum selection for further studies. For the high frequency condition a reliable analytical approach based on validated methods was developed. The analytical results indicate that a wells turbine with 60 cm diameter could produce up to 1600 Watts power in...

Supply Chain Planning Considering Gray Markets
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shavandi, Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays diversion of products from authorized distribution channels to the gray markets has been considered by manufacturers. There many cases that the products of main industries are supplied through gray markets. Gray markets are divided into two categories. The first category is parallel imports where an unauthorized distributor or a third party imports the products from a low price market into a market with high price. In most researches of parallel importation it is assumed that a monopoly manufacturer distributes its products in both two markets. In the second category of parallel importation researches, it is assumed that the manufacturer distributes the products in a certain market...

Abstract
Considering the importance of environmental issues and the limitation of fuel supplies in the world, car issues have become one of the most important debates of the day. The methods used to reduce fuel consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases are primarily aimed at changing vehicle structure to reduce drag. An external body shape has been developed to reduce drag forces over the years. Due to the existence of limitations in the actual conditions of the theory, such as the beauty and convenience production, other methods should be examined. In this study, the structure of superhydrophobic properties materials with the emphasis on innovation has been considered. In order to investigate...

Abstract
We present a model and propose an approach to compute an approximate solution of Fully Fuzzy Linear System (FFLS) of equations in which all the components of the coefficient matrix are either nonnegative or nonpositive. First, in discussing an FFLS with a nonnegative coefficient matrix, we consider an equivalent FFLS by using an appropriate permutation to simplify fuzzy multiplications. To solve the m × n permutated system, we convert it to three m × n real linear systems, one being concerned with the cores and the other two being related to the left and right spreads. To decide whether the core system is consistent or not, we use the modified Huang algorithm of the class of ABS methods. If...

Abstract
The ground surface settlement caused by underground excavation is an important matter in urban development. The settlement control of large span underground station in Tehran Metro is investigated using a full three-dimensional (3-D) finite element analysis. A method of underground construction by increasing the rigidity of the supporting system using Central Beam Column (CBC) structure is introduced. In construction of large underground space, effect of presence of CBC structure is compared to a case without CBC structure. The CBC structure increases the rigidity of supports and decrease the stress concentration and displacement in supporting system. It generally decreases the soil...

Abstract
This paper is concerned with the investigation of an optical band-pass filter based on subwavelength surface plasmon polaritons. The transmission characteristics are numerically analyzed by the finite-difference time-domain method, and simulation results reveal that the structure has a band-pass filtering characteristic. The metal–insulator–metal plasmonic nanostructure is implemented by several vertical rectangular cavities across an optical waveguide. The metal and dielectric materials utilized for the realization of the filter are silver and air, respectively. Furthermore, the performance can be efficiently modified by tuning the geometric parameters such as the cavities’ length and width...

Abstract
To improve the thermal stability of starch in water-based drilling fluid, monoethanolamine (MEA) was added, and the effect was investigated by laboratory experiment. The experimental results show that the addition of monoethanolamine (MEA) increases the apparent viscosity, plastic viscosity, dynamic shear force, and static shear force of the drilling fluid, and reduces the filtration rate of drilling fluid and thickness of mud cake apparently. By creating hydrogen bonds with starch polymer, the monoethanolamine can prevent hydrolysis of starch at high temperature. Starch, as a natural polymer, is able to improve the rheological properties and reduce filtration of drilling fluid, but it works...
Simulation of a Random Variable and its Application to Game Theory
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Aminzadeh Gohari, Amin (Supervisor)
Abstract
We study the optimization of the payoff of a decision-maker (a player or a team) in the presence of an adversary who wishes to minimize the payoff of the decision-maker. In this situation, the decision-maker can puzzle the adversary by playing random actions and hence, gain more payoff. We assume that the decision-maker has limited access to randomness sources and is only allowed to randomize his actions by conditioning them to the limited randomness sourse to which he has access. We consider two models: in the first model, in each stage, the decision maker observes a random source independent of past, and distributed according to a time invariant probability distribution. The adversary...

Abstract
In this research, the feasibility of the usage of the Wells turbine for direct conversion of the hydro-mechanical energy of the surface waves is studied via analytical and numerical methodologies. The results produced, showed for the first time that the Wells turbine can be employed for such waves directly and the performance variables are quite reasonable and even efficient considering low cost of HKWT system and abundant availability of those waves. For the low-frequency waves, the turbine is tested for different wave velocities to discover the best angular velocity of the rotor in terms of performance and the rotational velocity of 300 RPM has been found to be the optimum amount. Further,...
