, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vardian Zarrin Abadi, Niloofar (Author) ; Karimipour, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Naseh, Ali ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
    Abstract
In the last decade, the developement of Quantum Information theory have created new concepts and methods in the study of quantum many-body systems, that previously weren’t available to physicist involved in areas such as condensed matter and field theory. One of the most important steps is the insight provided by structure of the many body system’s Hilbert space. Although, it is not completed, it leads us to deep results. In fact, we have found out that with high probability, the state of a many-body system is located in a very small corner of the Hilbert space, which requires only a small number of parameteres to describe it, that with respect to the number of particles, it grows linearly...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Niloofar Sadat (Author) ; Mazaheri, Karim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis we are going to improve an ultrasonic flowmeter accuracy by considering the influence of different parameters like temperature, pressure, etc. Firstl of all different cases of flow condition in which ultrasonic flowmeter may work are specified, then velocity and temperature profile of pipe flow are determined using Fluent software. In thr next step ultrasonic pulses transmitted are simulated by the use of code written in Matlab to find wave travel time in the flow. Evetually an accurate relation of calibration for flowmeter is determined by the use of travel time and all other flow properties to evaluate the accuracy of flowmeter in diffent cases. Relation extracted can be...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abbasi Zarrin, Fatemeh (Author) ; Kebriaee, Azadeh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Injection of liquid fuel in the cross-flowing air provides a means of higher penetration, rapid mixing of liquid fuel and air, and is encountered in many engineering applications. Air-breathing propulsion systems (e.g. gas turbine combustors, ramjets, and scramjets), liquid rocket engines, cooling sprays for turbine blades, and injection of fuel in the afterburners are examples of such applications. The identification of microscopic characteristics is one of the basic methods of atomizer examination, which has not been taken into account due to inadequate experimental equipment. In the present study, droplet mono-frame velocimetry and size distribution of secondary atomization in a pressure...

    Abstract
Monoframe droplet shadow velocimetry (mf-DSV) is a cost-effective method in the quality control process of the injectors. In this method, the planar (2D) velocity of the droplets is measured by tracking the droplets in a volumetric illumination, known as shadowgraphy technique. An image with two footprints of each droplet in time lapse of two light pulses is used to determine the displacement/velocity. The mf-DSV method could be established by a much less expensive setup than the traditional velocimetry method. A high-power LED-based light source and ordinary camera without capability of double shutter mode are the requirements of this method. In this paper, different stages of image...

A Novel Methodology for Reserve and Energy Scheduling Incorporating Vpps in High Penetration of Renewable Resources

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zarrin, Arman (Author) ; Abbaspour Tehranifard, Ali (Supervisor) ; Fotuhi Firozabad, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Considering the high penetration of renewable energy resources in modern power systems, independent system operator faces considerable uncertainty and variability in the system under supervision. In this regard, determining and providing the appropriate amount of operational reserve is critical to overcoming uncertainty and variability to have reliable system performance. In practice, power system operators prefer to use deterministic approaches to schedule operational reserve. Such approaches have benefits in simplicity and fast calculations. Nevertheless, increasing share of renewable resources causes a considerable error in these approaches. Therefore, many researchers have proposed...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ebrahim abadi, Nasrin (Author) ; Ramezani saadat abadi, Ahmad (Supervisor) ; Mousavi, Abbass (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today, energy crises and the environmental pollution have become serious problems for the human being. To address these problems, extensive efforts have been made to replace fossil fuels with other clean energy resources such as fuel cells. In the meantime, polymer electrolyte fuel cells are very important as they are now commonly used in the field of transportation, and their importance become even more obvious as we consider the fact that the by-products from electricity production by such cells are simply water and heat. This research studies the efficiency of the polymer called “polysulfone” as an electrolyte fuel cell, which has the above named mechanical thermal and chemical...

A procedure for obtaining a behavioral description for the control logic of a non-linear pipeline

, Article Proceedings of the ASP - DAC 2004 Asia and South Pacific Design Automation Conference - 2004, Yokohama, 27 January 2004 through 30 January 2004 ; 2004 , Pages 86-91 Najaf Abadi, H. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
Much attention has been directed to different aspects of the design of pipelines. Design of the control logic of non-linear pipelines has however, been considered as a subsidiary issue in that an RTL description for such logic can easily be obtained from a behavioral description, with the use of widely available synthesis tools. But, as the complexity of a non-linear pipeline increases, so does the complexity of the control logic. The complexity may be to an extent that obtaining even a behavioral description for the control logic is rendered difficult. This paper focuses on further automating the development of systems consisting of non-linear or multi-function pipelines by proposing an...

    , Article Advances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics ; Vol. 6, issue. 3 , 2014 , pp. 299-306 ; ISSN: 20700733 Firouz-Abadi, R. D ; Mohammadkhani, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
This paper aims at investigating the resonance frequencies and stability of a long Graphene Nano-Ribbon (GNR) carrying electric current. The governing equation of motion is obtained based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam model along with Hamilton's principle. The transverse force distribution on the GNR due to the interaction of the electric current with its own magnetic field is determined by the Biot-Savart and Lorentz force laws. Using Galerkin's method, the governing equation is solved and the effect of current strength and dimensions of the GNR on the stability and resonance frequencies are investigated

    Abstract
This paper aims at investigating the interaction of two flexible permanent magnet beams facing each other. The governing equations of motion are obtained based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam model along with Hamiltons principle. Assuming that the beams tips are far enough, each magnet beam is considered as a series of dipole segments and the external force and moment distributions over each beam due to the magnetic field of the other one is calculated in the deformed configuration. The transverse deflections of the beams are written as series expansions of the mode shapes of an unloaded cantilever beam and the Galerkin method is applied to determine the stability and resonance frequencies....

The Flexural instability of spinning flexible cylinder partially filled with viscous liquid

    , Article Journal of Applied Mechanics, Transactions ASME ; Volume 77, Issue 1 , September , 2010 , Pages 1-9 ; 00218936 (ISSN) Firouz Abadi, R. D ; Haddadpour, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper deals with the flexural instability of flexible spinning cylinders partially filled with viscous fluid. Using the linearized Navier-Stokes equations for the incompressible flow, a two-dimensional model is developed for fluid motion. The resultant force exerted on the flexible cylinder wall as the result of the fluid motion is calculated as a function of lateral acceleration of the cylinder axis in the Laplace domain. Applying the Hamilton principle, the governing equations of flexural motion of the rotary flexible cylinder mounted on general viscoelastic supports are derived. Then combining the equations describing the fluid force on the flexible cylinder with the structural...
