, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yazdanian, Saeed (Author) ; Sameti, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Music information reterival systems have a lot of applications in music filtering and broadcast monitoring due to the huge amount of multimedia data these days. In these systems the feature extraction method is called audio fingerprinting. Small size of fingerprints allows the systems to search efficiently in thousands or millions numbers of audio songs. The input signal is usually just a couple of seconds long and degraded in several ways. The goal is to design a system which is robust to signal degradations and efficient to search. In this thesis one of the basic systems is reviewed and improved in several ways. This system uses spectrogram of signals to extract features and build an...

A generalized audio identification system using adaptive filters

    , Article 26th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2018, 8 May 2018 through 10 May 2018 ; 2018 , Pages 1641-1646 ; 9781538649169 (ISBN) Yazdanian, S ; Sameti, H ; Alidoust, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
From searching music with smartphones to broadcast monitoring by radio channels, audio identification systems are being used more in recent years. Design of such systems may differ when the problem domain changes, since each environment has special conflicting constraints to consider, like required speed and robustness to signal degradations. In this paper, a widely used audio identification system originally developed by Haitsma and Kalker is analyzed from a signal processing point of view and the fingerprint (audio feature) extraction method is modified. By adding a flexible filter to the fingerprint extraction method, the original system can be tuned to work in different domains. In order...

    , Article PEDSTC 2010 - 1st Power Electronics and Drive Systems and Technologies Conference, 17 February 2010 through 18 February 2010, Tehran ; 2010 , Pages 117-121 ; 9781424459728 (ISBN) Yazdanian, M ; Farhangi, S ; Zolghadri, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
A novel control strategy based on predictive control is presented for continuous conduction mode boost converter which operates as a power factor correction. In the proposed algorithm two horizons for the behavior of the circuit are predicted which improves the total harmonic distortion, mainly the low frequency harmonics. The algorithm doesn't need elaborating calculations therefore, implementation of the controller using low price processor is feasible. Moreover, an extra horizon of the prediction leads to expansion of the calculation time. Reduction of the harmonic distortion of the input current and improvement of the power factor have been demonstrated on an isolated boost PFC converter...

    Abstract
Recently, the problem of integrating side information about classes has emerged in the learning settings like zero-shot learning. Although using multiple sources of information about the input space has been investigated in the last decade and many multi-view and multi-modal learning methods have already been introduced, the attribute learning for classes (output space) is a new problem that has been attended in the last few years. In this paper, we propose an attribute learning method that can use different sources of descriptions for classes to find new attributes that are more proper to be used as class signatures. Experimental results show that the learned attributes by the proposed...

    Abstract
A general model for superconducting synchronous machines in which the rotor can be considered as a magnetic or a nonmagnetic material is proposed and analytically investigated. Analytical equations for magnetic flux in different regions of the machine have been developed. Furthermore, nonlinear magnetization of the iron core is studied. In order to solve the equations in the case of the iron saturation, a reiterative algorithm is proposed. Finite-element simulation has also been performed to verify the equations and the proposed algorithm. The obtained analytical results show good agreement with finite-element method results

    Abstract
Two major structures for rotor core of superconducting synchronous machine are air-cored and magnetic-cored structures. Magnetic-cored structure can be divided into two categories including salient and non-salient magnetic core. In this paper, three different structures of superconducting synchronous machine comprising air-cored, non-salient magnetic-cored and salient magnetic-cored, have been studied and compared considering required superconducting wire and machine weight. Required superconducting wire determines the capital cost and the weight of the machine determines the running cost in the case of portable applications such as ships and aircrafts

With the help of an example, the authors drive, first, the...

Investigation of Multiphase Flow in Oil Wells (with Focus on Two Phase Flow), Flow Pattern Recognition and Modeling

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shams, Reza (Author) ; Shad, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The concurrent flow of oil and water is a common occurrence in the field of multiphase flow in different fields including petroleum industry. In oil and gas, production engineers often face a situation in which more than one phase is flowing through the producers. In such conditions an accurate assessment of pressure loss inside the well plays a vital role in efficient and effective production planning. Changes in well orientation, wellbore diameter, reservoir and fluid properties as well as fluid flow rates are among parameters in which will affect the flow patterns that can occur inside a well during its life time. These flow patterns are created as a result of a competition between...

Casing Design Optimization Considering Drilling and Production Conditions

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghi, Mahdi (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Shad, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Casing design is one of the most expensive parts in the drilling of oil wells, and any cost reduction with the basic design of these casing strings will significantly reduce the total cost of the operation. In recent years, occurring scenarios-based casing design has become popular; Because in many cases, it eliminates non-occurring scenarios such as gas kick and saves on drilling costs. In this study, we have tried to investigate all scenarios that may occur during the lifetime of the well, whether drilling or production, and for each well, based on its own field information, possible scenarios for each casing part are selected separately and the applying loads are calculated. For this...

PRI (Palm Rotation Indicator): a metric for postural stability in dynamic nonprehensile manipulation [electronic resource]

, Article Journal of MECHANIKA ; 2012, Vol. 18, No. 4, pp. 461-466 Beigzadeh, B. (Borhan) ; Meghdar, Ali ; Sohrabpour, Saeed ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this study, we discuss the postural stability of a nonprehensile manipulation problem, which deals with multibody objects. As a metric for postural stability, we define PRI. Then, the system is posturally stable, if PRI is inside the convex hull of the object-manipulator contact surface. We then discuss that dynamic biped locomotion is a special case of dynamic nonprehensile manipulation in all aspects; we prove that ZMP (zero-moment point) and FRI (zoot rotation indicator) are special cases of PRI (palm rotation indicator). Simulations and experiments corresponding to simple examples support the results

Electrochemical Determination of Piroxicam at thin Carbon
Nanoparticle Composite And Investigation of the Electrochemical Behavior and Synthesis of Catechols in the Presence of Mercapto Methyl Tetrazol as a Nucleophile

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jokar, Effat (Author) ; Shahrokhian, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The electrochemical oxidation behavior of the anti-inflammatory drug piroxicam was investigated. A carbon nanoparticle (CNP)-chitosan (CS) film-coated graphite electrode (PGE) was fabricated and the electrochemical behaviors of piroxicam on its surface was investigated by the means of cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). In comparison to the bare PGE, at the surface of the CNP-CS film modified electrode, the oxidation peak current of piroxicam increased significantly and the peak potential shifted negatively. Consequently, a simple and sensitive electroanalytical method was developed for the determination of piroxicam. The...

Chemically Modified Electrodes Based on Conducting Polymers and Carbon Nanotubes: Application to Voltammetric Determination of Some Biological and Pharmaceutical Compounds

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asadian, Elham (Author) ; Shahrokhian, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
There are high attractions in the development of conducting polymer (CP) coatings to improve the electrochemical properties and biocompatibility of electrodes in the area of biosensors. In the first part of this thesis, a new type of modified electrodes, constructing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and polypyrrole is prepared in a layer-by-layer process. In this procedure, the glassy carbon electrode is casted first by a drop suspension of MWCNTs, leading to formation a thin film on its surface. In the second step, electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole in the presence of tiron (used as doping anion) is performed on the surface of the MWCNTs pre-coated electrode. The modification...

Voltammetric Determination of Tryptophan and 5-Hydroxytryptophan Using Graphite Electrode Modified with a Thin Film of Graphite/Diamond Nano-mixture And Determination of omeprazole Using Graphite Electrode

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bayat, Maryam (Author) ; Shahrokhian, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
At the first part of this thesis, a pyrolitic graphite electrode (PGE) modified with graphite/nanodiamond film (GND) was applied as a sensitive electrochemical sensor for determination and study of electrochemical behavior of tryptophan (Trp) and 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) in aqueous solutions. The results showed that GND caused a remarkable increase in the peak currents so the GND/PGE electrode surface was more sensitive to the concentration of Trp and 5-HTP than the PGE surface. The determination of Trp and 5-HTP were investigated by stripping voltammetry. Experimental parameters such as scan rate, pH, accumulation conditions and amount of the modifier used on the PGE surface were...
