, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asadi, Masoud (Author) ; Saidi, Mohammad Hasan (Supervisor) ; Zabetian Toroghi, Mohammad (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The air distribution is the main factor of contaminant transportation in cleanrooms. The experimental method is the most reliable one for investigation of flow field, which the difficulties associated with it, has limited not only the examination of the flow field in cleanrooms, but also the improvement of their qualities. Most of the experimental researches in indoor air quality concern conventional rooms and do not take into account specific supply-exhaust diffuser configurations, which are used in cleanrooms. Using small-scale models can reduce the complexity and the cost of measurements. In this research, the 3D velocity field of a small-scale cleanroom is measured in three different...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khaksar Toroghi, Masoud (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Controlling the nonlinear processes is very important in industry. In this thesis, model predictive control is considered as a nonlinear control strategy and two nonlinear models, namely wiener and Hammerstein models are used and their identification methods are described. State-space model is also considered and closed-loop stability has been studied. Another strategy for controlling the nonlinear process is global linearization control. Some concepts and related theorems for this strategy are stated. PID controller is used as a linear controller for this strategy. In this model for estimating the state and load, two nonlinear observers are used. Stability analysis of output feedback...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Toroghi, Mahdi (Author) ; Malaek, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The objective of this thesis is to investigate the application of graph theory in managing emergency evacuations of passengers from airplanes and space stations. Given the critical importance of passenger safety and the necessity for optimized design of emergency evacuation routes, this research aims to provide a mathematical and analytical framework to reduce evacuation time under critical conditions. Common methods in this field are typically based on costly and time-consuming simulations that require significant financial and temporal resources. Instead of relying on these approaches, this study explores the application of analytical and mathematical methods, particularly graph theory....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vafa Toroghi, Mojtaba (Author) ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Safety is an important factor in the nuclear power plants due to its inherent human and environmental hazards. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety of the plant and proper functioning of its various components, a series of commissioning tests should be conducted according to international nuclear power plants standards, before its operational exploitation. On the other hand, safety of the plant can be guaranteed by modeling transient states and possible scenarios of accidents in different situations. In this study, a commissioning test of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) and its associated accident is modelled by gathering geometric data and information about the facilities...

    Abstract
Contactless and nonintrusive methods in particulate manipulation have been considered by many investigations. Particularly the use of these methods in characterization of micro and nano flows is in the focus of interests. Laser usage in the particulate systems has been dramatically increased during the last two decades. Laser can be used either as an illustration or excitation source in these systems. So-called optical tweezers use the laser beam for particle manipulation and characterization based on the hydrodynamic interaction of the laser beam with particles. There are numerous works being conducted in the field of particulate manipulation and characterization using laser beam.Present...

Hardware Implementation of ANFIS Based Equalizer

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hakimi Toroghi, Navid (Author) ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Ghorshi, Mohammad Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, prolific usage of free air as a medium for data transmission leads interests to optimize the conditions of devices which are involved in wireless communication systems. Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) distortion is a natural characteristic of wireless channels that occurs due to propagating electromagnetic waves in different directions. Due to different paths between a transmitter and a receiver, the received signal consists of several copies of the transmitted signal with different delays. The most common way of eliminating or mitigating the effects of ISI is channel equalization. The present work leads to implementing a supervised equalization in wireless communication. The...

Quality of experience (QoE)-based joint admission control and power allocation with guaranteed data rate

    , Article Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies ; Volume 34, Issue 10 , 2023 ; 21613915 (ISSN) Zabetian, N ; Khalaj, B. H ; Sharif University of Technology
John Wiley and Sons Inc  2023
    Abstract
Service providers use objective models to map system quality of service (QoS) conditions to an estimated mean opinion score (MOS) in order to assess users' quality of experience (QoE). In contrast with earlier studies, we propose a hybrid model for call services that models the MOS in terms of the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) using a machine learning approach. Unlike most existing studies, which focus on maximizing the sum-MOS of all users, we aim to maximize the average number of satisfied users in order to allocate optimal power to each user while ensuring the minimum data rate for each of them. Simulation results show that the proposed hybrid model outperforms the...

Stabilization of the suspension of zirconia microparticle using the nanoparticle halos mechanism: zeta potential effect

    , Article Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology ; Volume 37, Issue 1 , 2016 , Pages 6-13 ; 01932691 (ISSN) Keramati, H ; Saidi, M.H ; Zabetian, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effect of silica nanoparticle halos on the stability of the zirconia aqueous suspension. The results of turbidity measurements showed that addition of nanoparticles to the suspension increases the stability of the zirconia suspension for all pH values. The achieved stability refers to the formation of nanoparticle halos around the microparticles that can be observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging. The best stabilization is achievable when zirconia microparticles are at the isoelectric point. The minimum stabilization occurs when microparticles have relatively high zeta potential and the force between micro and...

Design of Airport Control Tower Structures Located in Seismic Zones

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hakimi Toroghi, Amir (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Airport Traffic Control Towers (ATCTs) are among the most critical structures in an airport that are expected to keep their level of serviceability after severe strong earthquakes. Therefore analysis and design of these structures need a detailed investigation on the seismic behavior of the structure based on the structural characteristics. In this study three different existing reinforced concrete ATCTs have been investigated. As important parameters of earthquake design of structures, response modification factor (R-factor) of these towers will be determined. R-factor reduces elastic force level to design force level and contains the effect of ductility, overstrength. In Iranian seismic...

Quality of Experience (QoE) Modeling and Resource Allocations based on QoE in Wireless Communication Networks

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Zabetian, Negar (Author) ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The quality of experience (QoE) is a qualitative metric of users’ satisfaction with the received service. The competition for providing services is fierce, and the one who satisfies the most users wins. Therefore, the method of evaluating user satisfaction is important. In this dissertation, a model for VoIP QoE assessment is proposed. In the proposed method, appropriate features for measuring the quality of voice calls are first extracted solely from the degraded audio signals. Then, an ensemble learning model is created to estimate MOS, acceptance, and probabilistic metrics accurately and close to real opinions. Then, the performance of the model in terms of correlation coefficient and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Toroghi Haghighat, Ali Reza (Author) ; Jalili, Rasool (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recent violation of security properties of e-voting protocols not using provable security, indicates the importance of provable security. In this thesis, we use the provable security approach to analyze security properties of e-voting protocols. In addition to presenting an efficient and provably secure protocol, the minimal assumptions to achieve privacyin e-voting protocols are analyzed. The firstcon-tribution of this thesis is presenting an efficient and provably secure coercion-resistant protocol, which is a variant of the JCJ e-voting protocol (Juels et al.,2010). It decreases the total number of JCJ’s operations fromO(n2) to O(n). The second contribution of this thesis is proving the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khayyer Dastjerdi Toroghi, Ahmad (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In most of the engineering applications, the mechanical behavior of materials in high strain rate deformations differs from their behavior in quasi-static deformations. In some engineering problems like impact loading on structures, metal forming and explosive forming, the range of strain rate is about . Taylor impact test is one of the experiments used for characterizing the dynamic behavior of materials in high strain rate deformations. In the Taylor impact test a rigid cylindrical projectile is impacted normally onto a hard and massive surface (anvil), the projectile deforms by mushrooming at the impact end. With plastic wave propagation analysis, the plastic deformation of projectile is...

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics ; Vol. 61, issue. 11 , 2014 , pp. 6050-6060 ; ISSN: 02780046 Marvi, M ; Fotowat-Ahmady, A ; Kananian, S ; Zabetian, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Self-oscillating converters operating in the critical conduction mode are popular in low power applications because of their simplicity and low cost. However, these converters are not suited for Power Factor Correction (PFC) because the peak switch current is controlled to regulate the output voltage and does not follow the shape of the line voltage waveform. A new control circuit implementation is proposed for a self-oscillating boost converter to achieve power factor correction. A full featured design example is provided which can be simplified for use in various cost sensitive applications such as electronic lighting, etc. This wide input voltage range self-oscillating PFC prototype...

    Abstract
Optical separation, which is a contactless and accurate technique, has been mostly used to manipulate single particles. This work mainly aims to present an effective technique for optical propulsion and separation of a group of microscopic particles that are suspended in liquids. An experimental study is conducted to assess the effect of radiation pressure of a high-power laser on a dilute dispersion of microparticles in water using microscopic image analysis. Results of separation experiments indicate that the manipulation mechanism is capable of sorting the microscopic particles in two size classes. Compared to common optical separators, this configuration has a benefit of separating many...

    Abstract
Optical propulsion via laser source is a relatively new and non-contact tool for manipulation of microscopic objects. The method is based on the radiation pressure of light photons on the micron sized particles. Applications of the technique mainly cover microscopic separation, purification and cellular studies. Due to high power intensity of laser beams, absorption of light may result in heating and damage of objects to be manipulated. In addition, the difference between heated and cold zones can lead to a naturally driven flow around the objects. So precisely controlled conditions should be set up to avoid thermal effects. In this work, a theoretical study is conducted to investigate the...

Central Bank’s Revolving Door Effect on Bank’s Performance and Financial Health

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Masoudian Toroghi, Mohammad (Author) ; Fatemi Ardestani, Farshad (Supervisor) ; Mahmoudzadeh, Amineh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the revolving door effect on the bank’s performance is investigated through two paths: return on assets as an expression of banks' performance and capital adequacy ratio as a bank financial health indicator and the quality of central bank supervision. We assume these two variables are affected by conflict of interest. The form of conflict of interest used in this research is revolving doors. The board directors of commercial banks, who have previously worked in the central bank, create conflict-of-interest data. Twenty-seven commercial banks were investigated in this research between 2012 and 2022. the conflict-of-interest gap variable was defined in order to separate the...

    Abstract
Identification and minimization of error sources are important issues in experimental investigations. Mainly in micro-scale problems, precise settings should be applied to high-tech test beds to reduce disturbance and induced motion. An experimental study is conducted to assess the role of induced forces and velocity fields in a particulate system used for particle identification and separation. Two main effects caused by disturbances are sampling errors and induced motion in the channel, either on fluid or dispersed phases. Different disturbance scenarios are implemented on the test bed and then the system response is reported. In order to assess induced motion as a result of applied...

Construction of an Experimental Device for Foaming Agent and an Experimental Study of the Properties of Foaming Agent

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammad Karami (Author) ; Bazargan, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The primary purpose of acidizing operations in the oil and gas industry is to enhance hydrocarbon production. Acidizing has been a common and conventional method for years, especially when production engineers face issues like declining reservoir pressure leading to reduced production rates. Initially, the treatment solution is referred to as matrix acidizing. In acidizing operations, different additives are combined with the acid to control its behavior in the reservoir. These additives may include iron control agents, corrosion inhibitors, friction reducers, and more. Incompatibility among these additives, the acid, and reservoir fluids can lead to severe damage to the reservoir....
