    In this paper, we study the performance of optical code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems using various receivers structures. Two general classes of receivers based on required electronic bandwidth are studied. Optical orthogonal codes (OOCs) are utilized as signature sequences and the performance studied in this paper takes into account the effect of all major noise sources, i.e., quantum shot-noise, dark current noise, and Gaussian circuit noise.     Abstract
    The developed wireless multi-channel PPG system comprises tiered communication subsystem with two sensor modules and a single base module. The sensor modules process the input signals simultaneously into 16-bit samples and wirelessly transfer them to base module using Bluetooth technology. In base module, the samples are combined using time division multiplexing into composite stream and serially forwarded to the host computer. The string buffer is implemented in the sensor module firmware to increase the transfer time, transfer samples in chunks and eliminate the wireless transmission latency.     Abstract
    The digital sensor module is developed to sample the input signal fed from a photo-sensor probe at sampling times ranging from 400-4000 μs equivalent to sampling rates of 2500-250 sample/second (S/s), respectively. The module produces 16-bit data packets which are transmitted serially and plotted to output the photoplethysmography signal (PPG).     Abstract
    In this paper, system identification techniques are applied to accurately characterize the frequency behavior of a commercially available but with unknown characteristics of a photoplethysmography (under the commercial name of Pulse Sensor). Although claimed to be open-source, the electronic schematic of this device does not allow for a full characterization of it. Therefore a second order auto-regressive with exogenous input model has been employed to find the frequency response of this system.     Abstract
    Nanofibrous structures mimicking the native extracellular matrix have attracted considerable attention for biomedical applications. The present study aims to design and produce drug-eluting core-shell fibrous scaffolds for wound healing and skin tissue engineering. Aloe vera extracts were encapsulated inside polymer fibers containing chitosan, polycaprolactone, and keratin using the co-axial electrospinning technique. Electron microscopic studies show that continuous and uniform fibers with an average diameter of 209 ± 47 nm were successfully fabricated.     Due to inherent potential of General Regression Neural Network(GRNN) to approximate nonlinear functions, it can be implemented as a nonlinear state-feedback controller. In this paper the methodology of direct collocation and nonlinear programming is utilized in combination with GRNN to determine the optimal control of dynamical systems.     An approach based pulse on contour analysis is proposed for the development of an aging index for the vascular system. The approach is non-invasive, using photoplethysmography (PPG), which is in wide clinical use. A probe is applied to the subject's finger-tip to provide a measure of the pulse waveform. The measured waveforms are filtered, digitized and post-processed. Individual pulses are extracted and the best pulse was selected by using the best pulse selection algorithm.     Indoors wireless infrared transmission is severely impaired by ambient noise. In addition, in a multiple user network, since many users share the same physical channel, considerable amount of multi-user interference will also be introduced. In this paper, Infrared CDMA techniques are proposed to combat the effect of ambient and multi-user interference. Our analysis is based on Photon-Counting approach and Bit Error Rate is given versus signal power.     Cardiotocograph (CTG) is widely used in everyday clinical practice for fetal surveillance, where it is used to record fetal heart rate (FHR) and uterine activity (UA). These two biosignals can be used for antepartum and intrapartum fetal monitoring and are, in fact, nonlinear and non-stationary. CTG recordings are often corrupted by artifacts such as missing beats in FHR, high-frequency noise in FHR and UA signals.     In this paper, a two channel abdominal PPG instrumentation is developed. The proposed instrument consists of IR-LED and its driver, photo-detector and data acquisition card. The modulation frequency generation, demodulation and digital signal processing is done completely in the digital domain using LabView. The results show that the developed instrument is able to acquire signal from the abdomen even at 4 cm source to detector separation.     The cauliflower like ZnO nanostructures are grown on ZnO nanorods using spray pyrolysis method. First, ZnO nanorod arrays are grown on p-type silicon substrate without catalyst by chemical vapor transport and condensation method in a horizontal tube furnace.
