Lithography-directed Self-assembly for Designing Drug Particles of Various Sizes and Morphologies
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Safari, Hanieh (Supervisor)
Abstract
To design a drug delivery system, the drug must be encapsulated within a carrier matrix. One of the main challenges in this field is encapsulating high drug doses while achieving a linear release profile at the target site to maintain drug concentration for optimal therapeutic effects. Consequently, many research groups have focused on refining fabrication techniques to maximize loading efficiency and optimize drug release profiles from delivery systems. A potential approach to addressing this issue is the direct fabrication of a controlled-release system from the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) itself, eliminating the need for a carrier matrix. Studies have demonstrated that such...
Rationality of Scientific Knowledge From the Point of View of Feyerabend
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; ZibaKalam, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Feyerabend was a philosopher of science that became famous for his purportedly anarchistic view of science and his rejection of the existence of universal methodological rules and rationality of science. Feyerabend’s view of science can be summarize in a few points; 1. On the issue of falsifiability, Feyerabend argues that no theory is ever consistent with all the relevant facts. He sees the use of ad-hoc postulates to save the dominant paradigm as an essential to the progress of science. He claims that scientists frequently depart completely from the scientific method when they use ad-hoc ideas to explain observations that are only later justified by theory. To Feyerabend, ad-hoc...

Abstract
Osteoarthritis is a common musculoskeletal disorder and the most prevalent form of arthritis. To date, no comprehensive cure has been reported for osteoarthritis, and its clinical management remains challenging. The primary therapeutic goals in the early stages of osteoarthritis are to increase joint mobility and control disease progression by continuously releasing drugs and molecules modulating inflammatory responses and reducing pain. Smart drug delivery platforms are one of the strategies to overcome the challenges of injectable and oral medications. Additionally, drug carrier particles can have different therapeutic targets based on their size and shape. Different therapeutic...

The Optimization of Self-Assembled Coacervate Drug Delivery Systems to Enhance Uptake by Macrophages and Their Polarization Towards an Anti-Inflammatory Phenotype
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Safari, Hanieh (Supervisor) ; Mashayekhan, Shohreh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Macrophages play a crucial role in the healing process of chronic wounds in diabetic patients. These cells polarize from a pro-inflammatory M1 phenotype to an anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype, guiding the initial inflammation toward tissue repair and regeneration. In diabetic patients, physiological disturbances impair this polarization, resulting in persistent, chronic, and inflamed wounds. Glucocorticoid anti-inflammatory drugs are commonly used but have serious side effects, necessitating targeted delivery systems. This study aims to design and optimize self-assembled complex coacervate drug delivery system composed of gelatin and sodium alginate (GA/SA CCA) that can selectively uptake by...

Abstract
In this paper, a robust algorithm for disease type determination in brain magnetic resonance image (MRI) is presented. The proposed method classifies MRI into normal or one of the seven different diseases. At first two-level two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (2D DWT) of input image is calculated. Our analysis show that the wavelet coefficients of detail sub-bands can be modeled by generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (GARCH) statistical model. The parameters of GARCH model are considered as the primary feature vector. After feature vector normalization, principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) are used to extract the proper...

Abstract
The one-pot synthesis of several secondary amines and secondary amino esters are reported. Treatment of aldehydes (aliphatic or aromatic) with (trimethylsilyl)alkylamines, in the presence of 5 M lithium perchlorate in diethyl ether gives intermediate imines. Reaction of these intermediate imines with different nucleophiles and functionalized organozinc reagents, BrZnCH2COOR, produce a variety of secondary amines and N-alkyl- or N-arylamino esters in good yields. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
