Fe3O4 Nano Particle-Based Magnetic Solid Phase Extraction of Oxadiargy1 and Fluoxetine from Aquatic and Biological Media
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bagheri, Habib (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study new magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) methods based on Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) for extraction and preconcentration of oxadiargyl and fuoxetine from aqueous and biological samples were developed. In the first work, Fe3O4 NPs was successfully used as a magnetic nano-sorbent in magnetic micro-solid phase extraction (M-µ-SPE) of oxadiargyl, a newly used pesticide, from environmental water samples prior to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry determination. Oxadiargyl in mild acidic condition has tendency to be adsorbed on Fe3O4 NPs surfaces. Most important parameters that affect the extraction efficiency were also studied. Under optimized condition, the proposed...
Preparation of ethyl cellulose microcapsules containing perphenazine and polymeric perphenazine based on acryloyl chloride for physical and chemical studies of drug release control [electronic resource]
, Article Polymer International ; Volume 47, Issue 4, pages 413–418, December 1998 ; Pourjavadi, A ; Hashemi, S. A ; Arabi. , H ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
The preparation of microcapsules containing perphenazine by solvent evaporation using ethyl cellulose is described. The microparticles are formed after solvent evaporation and polymer precipitation. The drug was dissolved in a polymer solution and emulsified into an aqueous phase to form microcapsules. To study the effects on particle size, encapsulation efficiency and morphology, three different molecular weights of ethyl cellulose (Mw=47000, 71000 and 99000) were used. Covalent bonding of drugs to polymers via hydrolytically or enzymatically cleavable covalent bond was achieved for sustained drug delivery. The release rate of perphenazine from these systems was investigated
Flow of Saliva in a Lab-on-a-chip under Electrokinetic Body Force
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saeedi, Mohammad Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
The lab-on-a-chip (LOC) devices utilizing electroosmosis for flow actuation are usually encountered with non-Newtonian behavior of working fluids. Hence, studying the flow of non-Newtonian fluids under an electroosmotic body force is of high importance for accurate design and active control of these devices. In this thesis, mixed electroosmotically and pressure driven flow of salivathrough a rectangular microchannel is examined utilizing two viscoelastic constitutive equations, namely PTT and FENE-P models. Since the hydrodynamic entry length is usually negligible for microflows, a hydrodynamically developed flow is considered in the analysis. The governing equations in dimensionless form...

2012
Abstract
Human cardiac troponin I (cTnI) is a specific biomarker for diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In this paper, a composite sensing system of an optical microsphere resonator and silver nanoparticles based on surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) techniques towards a point of care diagnostic system for AMI using the cTnI biomarker in HEPES buffered solution (HBS) is proposed. Pump and Raman signals enter the optical fiber coupling into the microsphere, and then SRS occurs in the microsphere. The presence of silver nanoparticles on the microsphere surface provides a tremendous enhancement of the resulting Raman signal through an...

Abstract
Computational instruments such as personal computers (PC) are among the most important and developed inventions needed for the society. Nowadays, the fastest classical computing machines are based on the conventional semiconductor fabrication technology. But these computers cannot satisfy all of the requirements of today’s ongoing developments. Two important weaknesses of the undergoing technology are the speed of computing which is in the frontend of the semiconductor technology, and solving some complicated problems which may take years and even decades with these computers. This is while, based on quantum theory and related algorithms, solving of these problems would take much less time....

Abstract
A scheme for deterministic secure direct communication based on ping-pong protocol without restricting the security control only to a distinct control mode and debate via classical channel is proposed. It utilizes an entangled pair of qubits and presents a higher bit-rate transfer of information together with a higher security than ping-pong protocol. The security of protocol is enhanced by introducing a control factor for each message mode. It is explicitly showed that the protocol has a high degree of security against a class of individual attacks, and successfully resolves the famous Wojcik attack

Abstract
The exact numerical solution of the nonlinear Ginzburg-Landau equation for Josephson junctions is obtained, from which the precise nontrivial current density and effective potential of the Josephson junctions are found. Based on the resulting potential well, the tunneling probabilities of the associated bound states are computed which are in complete agreement with the reported experimental data. The effects of junction and bias parameters such as thickness of the insulating barrier, cross sectional area, bias current, and magnetic field are fully investigated using a successive perturbation approach. We define and compute figures of merit for achieving optimal operation of phase qubits and...

Fabrication of Graphene-WO3 Nanocomposites as Photocatalyst in the Visible Light Region
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akhavan, Omid (Supervisor)
Abstract
WO3 is known as a photocatalyst in the visible light region, but with lower efficiency compared to more interesting semiconductor photocatalysts such as TiO2 and ZnO. Many attempts have been done to increase the efficiency of this photocatalyst by incorporating metal and metal oxide nanoparticles or recently carbon nanotubes. On the other hand, application of graphene, as an unrolled carbon nanotube, for increasing the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 and ZnO has shown positive results. Furthermore, it was reported that such semiconductor photocatalysts (and very recently WO3) can photocatalytically reduce the chemically exfoliated graphene oxide sheets under UV-vis irradiation.

Abstract
Graphene is a one layer atom thickness and zero energy gap so for using it in nano electronic and transistors baised on graphene it's energy gap should be opened.one of the methods for opening graphene band gap is creating nano scale boundaries or synthesize graphene nanoribbons. One of the new methods for graphene nanoribbon synthesize is longitudinal opening of carbon nanotube. In this thesis graphene nanoribbons synthesize with this method and analyze with AFM and Raman spectroscopy. Carbon nanotubes also have energy gap and IR absorption recently they used for living cell destruction. In this thesis we synthesize graphene nanoribbons and analyzing their optical absorption and use it for...

Following this idea , a group has produced graphene from wastes such as...
Synthesis of Graphene Oxide and Study of its Fluorescence Properties
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akhavan, Omid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Graphene oxide is a single sheet of Carbon atoms which has been arranged on a two-dimensional honeycomb lattice. Functional groups such as epoxy, carboxyl and carbonyl are located on basal plane and at the edges of graphene oxide and they localize electrons on the surface of graphene oxide and open band gap in its band structure. Pure graphene has zero band gap, so existence of fluorescence properties is unlikely; but graphene oxide has fluorescence properties due to band gap in its band structure. Fluorescence properties of graphene have been used in live cell imaging and drug delivery, so study and increasing of fluorescence properties is significantly important. The purpose of this...
