    Darrieus type vertical axis wind turbines have several advantages over other wind turbines for local electricity generation in urban environments. However, the main aerodynamic challenge is the negative impacts of the dynamic stall phenomenon on the turbine performance. This study numerically scrutinizes the effects of plasma actuators on the dynamic stall control and performance improvement of a Darrieus turbine.     Although the popularity of Darrieus-type vertical axis wind turbines is growing for small-scale electricity generation, these turbines have severe challenges in self-starting. This research study use the plasma actuator flow control method to solve the self-starting problem besides enhancing the turbine performance. In this study, the differential quadrature method (DQM) as a well-known numerical method is utilized in the dynamic analysis of the Euler-Bernoulli curved beam problem with a uniform cross section under a constant moving load.     TiO2 deposited on a membrane of Ag fibers was prepared as a photoelectrochemical cell electrode. Ag fibers were made by reduction of Ag complexes on cellulose fibers, followed by burning out the template. TiO 2 photocatalyst layers were grown on the fibers by electrophoretic deposition of TiO2 nanoparticles. Ag fibers could be uniformly deposited.     Porous poly-silicon (PPS) is a cheaper alternative to single crystal porous silicon and is a favorable choice for making gas sensors. In this study, porous poly-silicon samples were prepared using different HF concentrations and the structural and gas-sensing properties were studied. The topography of the surface was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques. The variation of electrical conductivity of the samples in the presence of dry air-diluted acetone, ethanol and methanol showed that for a constant etching current, the sensitivity was highest for samples prepared in 13% HF solution.     Titania nanofibers were prepared using a colloidal solution of Titania nanoparticles and a templating method. The preparation comprises impregnation of cellulose fibers in the solution containing Titania nanoparticles followed by thermal removal of the cellulose template. It is evidenced by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) that the residue substance consists of micron size fibers with a microstructure of nanofibers. The pore size distribution of the substance is multi-scale and fractal morphology was demonstrated with two fractal regimes with dimensions of 1.78 and 2.97 for sizes below and above 7.5nm, respectively.     Ferrite-bainite-martensite triple phase (TP) microstructures with different volume fractions of martensite were obtained by changing heat treatment time during austempering at 300 C. Room temperature impact properties of TP steels with different martensite volume fractions (VM) were determined by means of Charpy impact testing. The effects of test temperature on impact properties were also investigated for two selected microstructures containing 0 (the DP steel) and 8.5 vol.% martensite.     The strain hardening behavior of AISI 4340 steel with dual phase (DP) and triple phase (TP) microstructures with constant ferrite volume fractions of 34% was investigated. The microstructures of specimens were analyzed using an optical microscope. The tensile flow behavior of all the samples was explained using Holloman equation.     This paper presents the effect of martensite volume fraction (VM) on mechanical properties of AISI 4340 steel with ferrite-bainite-martensite microstructures.
