Optimal Design and Prototyping of 2 Degree of Freedom Resolver

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Zare, Fatemeh (Author) ; Nasiri Gheidai, Zahra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Position sensors are an inevitable part of motion control mechanisms with inverter-driven electric machines. Encoders and resolvers are two common types of position sensors. Resolvers are preferred over encoders due to their superior performance in polluted and noisy environments with wide temperature variation or high vibration. Conventional resolvers are synchronous generators whose excitation winding is fed by an AC instead of a DC voltage. There are different types of resolvers for determining position in linear or rotational motions. However, increasing usage of two-degree of freedom (2-DOF) motors for simultaneous rotational and linear motion leads to request for helical motion...

Using Nonlinear Effects of Light for Optical Signal Processing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shatery, Farshid (Author) ; Kavehvash, Zahra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Ultrafast signal processing in time-domain with high resolution and reconfigura-bility is a challenging task. This paper, for the first time, introduces a time-varying metasurface consisting of graphene microribbon array for implementing time-lens in the terahertz domain. Given that the surface conductivity of graphene is proportional to the Fermi energy level in the THz regime, it is possible to change the phase property of the incident electromagnetic pulse by changing the Fermi level while the Fermi level itself is a function of voltage. Upon this fact, a quadratic temporal phase modulator, namely time-lens has been realized. This phase modulation is applied to the impinging signal in the...

In today's era, metal nanoparticles play an important role in technologies emerging from different sciences, such as chemistry, physics, optics, material science, due to their unique characteristics. In the development of nanooptics science, it can be said that metal nanoparticles play an important role. The ability of conductive electrons collective oscillation causes surface charge density fluctuations in nanoparticles, this phenomenon is known as surface plasmons. Surface plasmons are surprisingly coupled with light and cause the significant increase in the intensity of optical fields induced in nanoparticles. Therefore, with the presence of localized surface plasmons or plasmon...

Theoretical Investigation of Ab-initio MD Approach to Increase the Efficiency and Accuracy of VCD Spectrum Calculation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hadi, Hossein (Author) ; Jamshidi, Zahra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Understanding of the Molecules is the main purpose of the chemistry. Ab-initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) as a branch of the computational chemistry, tries to give us a deep comprehension of the molecule, and its chemical, physical and optical activities. This comprehension, relies on the accuracy of quantum mechanics, in addition to the speed of the classical mechanics. The mixing of the quantum mechanics and the classical mechanics could simulate activities of the atoms in the time-domain, provided the mixing is done with precaution. This, in turn, helps us to forecast the response of a molecule in different situations, and also translating the macroscopic phenomena in a nanoscopic...

Investigation of Plasmonic Excitation in Carbonic Nanostructures Within Near-IR

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Madadi, Mahkam (Author) ; Jamshidi, Zahra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
To date, the plasmonic properties of many metallic and semi-conducting materials have been investigated and used in various industries. One of the plasmonic material categories that have always been considered is polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon or PAH, whose plasmonic resonance energy depends on the charge state of the molecule. In this regard, it is easy to change the plasmonic resonance energy via changing the induced charge, which is a unique feature of the mentioned materials. In addition, plasmonic structures with excitations in the infrared region are able to enhance the vibration intensity of absorbed molecules by increasing the electric field around themselves. Therefore, they have...

Influence of martensite volume fraction on impact properties of triple phase (TP) steels

    , Article Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance ; Volume 22, Issue 3 , 2013 , Pages 823-829 ; 10599495 (ISSN) Zare, A ; Ekrami, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Ferrite-bainite-martensite triple phase (TP) microstructures with different volume fractions of martensite were obtained by changing heat treatment time during austempering at 300 C. Room temperature impact properties of TP steels with different martensite volume fractions (VM) were determined by means of Charpy impact testing. The effects of test temperature on impact properties were also investigated for two selected microstructures containing 0 (the DP steel) and 8.5 vol.% martensite. Test results showed reduction in toughness with increasing VM in TP steels. Fracture toughness values for the DP and TP steels with 8.5 vol.% martensite were obtained from correlation between fracture...

    Abstract
The strain hardening behavior of AISI 4340 steel with dual phase (DP) and triple phase (TP) microstructures with constant ferrite volume fractions of 34% was investigated. The microstructures of specimens were analyzed using an optical microscope. The tensile flow behavior of all the samples was explained using Holloman equation. Results showed that in both DP and TP steels, work hardening takes place in two stages. The onset strain of second stage of work hardening and Holloman equation parameters (work hardening exponent and strength coefficient) in both stages were increased with the increase of martensite volume fraction in TP steels. At first stage of work hardening, ferrite phase...

    Abstract
This paper presents the effect of martensite volume fraction (VM) on mechanical properties of AISI 4340 steel with ferrite-bainite-martensite microstructures. The steel bars were austenitized at 900°C for 1h followed by intercritical annealing at 740°C for 100min and quenching into a salt bath with temperature of 300°C and holding at different times to obtain triple phase (TP) microstructures with 34vol.% fraction ferrite and various martensite (or bainite) contents. Presence of three phases in adjacent to each other was confirmed by metallographic analysis and TEM studies. TEM observation also indicates higher density of dislocations within ferrite near martensite colonies compared to that...

6DOF Flight Dynamics Modeling of a Flexible Flapping wing using Unsteady Aerodynamics

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Zare, Hadi (Author) ; Pourtakdoust, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A complete 6DOF flight dynamic model of an elastic flapping wing (EFW), integrated with unsteady aerodynamic theory is developed. In this respect, initially efficient high fidelity modules for EFW structural dynamics (SD) as well as unsteady aerodynamics loadings (UAL) to be coupled with its flight dynamics are prepared. A modal approach is followed to model structural dynamics of plain and 3D EFWs. This is in contrast with the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory that is mostly utilized for SD in the existing literature. In addition, due to the possibility of large wing deformations as well as the existence of non-linear displacement regime for realistic EFW flights, non-linear modal approaches such...

Investigation on Interfacial Reactions in Aluminium to Copper Resistance Spot Welding

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zare, Mohammad (Author) ; Pouranvari, Majid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the development of electrical engineering and the electrical industry, the use of copper and its alloys has grown tremendously. On the other hand, with development and modern industry, it will be difficult to meet the requirements such as high performance, cost reduction and weight reduction of the structure if only one metal material is used in the production of the desired component or structure. Aluminum can be used in combination with copper because of its properties such as high thermal and electrical conductivity. Al/Cu bonding is used in industries such as microelectronics, automobiles and batteries. This study has investigated parametrically the feasibility of uneven bonding of...

Analytical Modelling and Optimization of Disk Type, Slot Less Resolver

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moheyseni, Atefeh (Author) ; Nasiri Gheidari, Zahra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Resolvers, due to their robust structure, are widely used in automation systems. Among the types of resolvers, the accuracy of the Wound Rotor (WR) resolver in the occurrence of common mechanical errors is higher than other types of resolvers. therefore, in this thesis, an AFWRR is studied to improve the performance. Increasing the number of poles in WR resolvers is a good solution for increasing the accuracy of these electromagnetic position sensors. However, high-speed WR resolvers due to employing fractional slot windings suffer from rich sub-harmonics in the induced voltages. A common solution for suppressing the undesirable sub-harmonics is using multi-layer winding with appropriate...

A Survey on Searchable Symmetric Encryption Schemes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sajadieh, Zahra Sadat (Author) ; Khazaei, Shahram (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Using “Searchable Encryption” enables us to encrypt the data, while preserving the possibility of running search queries. One of the most important applications of the mentioned is in Cloud Storage. As users do not trust the Cloud space, they are not inclined to store their data on the Could. The solution to this problem is of course, Cryptography. However, ordinary Cryptography methods, eliminate the data’s searchability. Hence, we need encryption schemes that code the data while retaining their searchability. So far, various schemes has been proposed that differ in their performance, security level, and usage. In this thesis, we aim to discuss and analyze these methods
