Abstract
KMnO4 oxidation combined with polyelectrolyte (K530CF) flocculation was investigated to mitigate membrane fouling in a membrane bioreactor. The optimum dosages of chemical additives in order to enhance the removal of soluble microbial products (SMPs) were determined. This method was able to reduce the concentration of COD in the effluent to 57.1% and 51.1% lower than those in the experiments in the absence of chemical flocculants and in the presence of polyelectrolyte, respectively. NH3-N removal was improved by combining KMnO4 and K530CF. Abstract
In this study, the effect of martensite volume fraction on the wear behaviour of 4340 steel with triple-phase steel microstructure with a constant volume fraction of 34% ferrite was investigated. Using the Holman equation, it was found that triple-phase steel with different martensite volume fraction has two stages of work hardening. By increasing martensite volume fraction, yield strength and ultimate tensile strength and work hardening exponent of first and second stages increase and the elongation decreased. Abstract
In this paper, we consider the problem of computing the visibility polygon (VP) of a query point q (or VP(q)) in a scene consisting of some obstacles with total complexity of n. We show that the combinatorial representation of VP(q) can be computed in logarithmic time by preprocessing the scene in O( n4logn) time and using O( n4) space. We can also report the actual VP(q) in additional O(|VP(q)|) time. As a main result of this paper, we will prove that we can have a tradeoff between the query time and the preprocessing time/space. Abstract
A novel broadband and tunable terahertz (THz) source based on the modulation instability phenomenon (MI) is proposed. By introducing higher-order dispersion terms in nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLSE) the MI gain is spread toward larger frequencies which in turn shifts the input optical frequency to the THz range. In this method, the need for any further pump signal is eliminated while the input power is reasonable, less than 1W, due to using EDFA fiber. In this paper, we propose a method for maintaining the region visible from a moving point observer inside a planar scene. In this method, we check the observer position in discrete time-stamps to detect and apply changes to the visible or illuminated region of a moving point observer q, or VP(q). We efficiently maintain a list C(q) of edges in VP(q) which are subject to change during the motion. A new Zinc phosphating bath, which produces coatings at relatively lower temperatures within a reasonable time by using of chemical accelerators has been devised. Improvement of the bath performance by the addition of divalent cations like calcium, nickel has been studied.
