Steel Moment-Resisting Frames with Mixed Ductile Moment-Shear Fuse

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alavi, Amir Ali (Author) ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis presents the seismic performance evaluation of steel MRFs with nonlinear replaceable links. Although existing MRFs can provide life safety during a design level earthquake, they are expected to sustain significant damage at the locations of flexural yielding fuses in the beams .These drawbacks can be mitigated by introducing replaceable links at the locations of expected inelastic action. Codes require that the span-to-depth ratio of the beams in moment resisting frames (MRF) should be limited to guarantee the development of plastic hinges with a sufficient length at beam ends. To overcome the abovementioned limits, in this paper a new replaceable shear structural fuse is...

Cross-Project Software Defect Prediction with Deep Learning

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alavi Rad, Kimia (Author) ; Fazli, Mohammad Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Software defect prediction is a significant and growing field in software development that focuses on identifying software modules prone to defects before the testing phase. The challenge of lacking historical data has shifted software defect prediction towards a cross-project approach. In this method, identifying defective software modules in a project (target project) is done using historical data collected from other projects (source project). The difference in data distribution between source and target projects is a major challenge in cross-project defect prediction. One way to overcome this challenge is the appropriate selection of the source project, which most existing studies...

Analysis of Resonant Mode Distributions and Suppression of Undesired Modes at Strongly Coupled Oscillator Arrays

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zia Tohidi, Tahereh (Author) ; Banai, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Mutually coupled oscillator arrays may be used for power combining at the millimeter-wave region. In addition, these arrays have the capability of beam steering without the use of any phase shifter. Using the strong coupling method is inevitable to obtain synchronization between all elements in the large arrays. One of the challenges in strongly coupled oscillators is the multi-moding problem or oscillation at undesired frequencies. In this thesis, we obtain mode distributions in a one-dimensional and a two-dimensional array with rectangular boundary, using a method based on circuit equations in the frequency domain. Then, we compared the results with the previous works and also verified...

Design and Implement of the Ion Implanter’s Ion Gun Power Supplies by Using the Resonant Converters

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Beiranvand, Reza (Author) ; Rashidian, Bizhan (Supervisor) ; Zolghadri, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Alavi, Mohammad Hossein (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In the Ion Implanter system a controled current through a tungesten filament, supplies the heat which causes the thermoionic emmition to ionize the gas molecules. Then the negativly charged electrones that are boiled off the filament, and also the ones that are removed from the outer ring of the gas molecules during the ionization process, are attracted by an adjustable voltage source. In this thesis, two resonant converter topologies are proposed to designe and to implement the adjustable current and voltage sources for ion implantation system. Unlike the PWM converters soft switching techniques, used auxiliary circuits to reduce the switching losses and EMI noises, in the proposed resonant...

    , Article Journal of Network and Computer Applications ; Volume 32, Issue 5 , September , 2009 , Pages 1049–1063 Hariri, B. (Behnoosh) ; Shirmohammadi, Sh. (Shervin) ; Pakravan, M. R. (Mohammad Reza) ; Alavi, M. R. (Mohammad Hosein) ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
As massively multiuser virtual environments (MMVEs) expand in terms of size and user population, they tend toward using P2P architectures as a way to provide scalability without the need for large centralized resources. Distributed hash table (DHT)-based networks have been introduced as a promising option for overlay-based distributed massively multiuser virtual environment applications. However, overlay latency stretch seriously affects MMVE performance where QoS is crucial for real-time user collaboration. This work includes a series of efforts in the alleviation of such undesired latency. Our approach to latency mitigation consists of two phases. First, we propose a position-based ID...
