Abstract
This paper addresses dynamic cell formation problem (DCFP) which has been explored vastly for several years. Although a considerable body of literature in this filed, two remarkable aspects have been significantly ignored so far, as uncertainty and human-related issues. In order to compensate such a shortage, this paper develops a bi-objective stochastic model. The first objective function of the developed model seeks to minimize total cost of machine procurement, machine relocation, inter-cell moves, overtime utilization, worker hiring/laying-off, and worker moves between cells; while the second objective function maximizes labor utilization of the cellular manufacturing system. In the...

Abstract
This paper applies a novel adaptive approach consisting of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Fuzzy Linear Regression (FLR) to improve car ownership forecasting in complex, ambiguous, and uncertain environments. This integrated approach is applied to forecast car ownership in Iran from 1930 to 2007. In this study, the level of car ownership is viewed as the result of demographic, politico-social, and urban structure factors including average family size, total population density, urban population density, urbanization rate, gross national product per capita, gasoline price, and total road length. To capture the potential complexity, uncertainty, and linearity relation between the car...

Abstract
Model-Driven Development (MDD) is a promising approach to software development, mainly due to the pivotal role of models in its process, and the high potential it provides for automated model/software generation. Since software processes can themselves be considered as software, any technique or approach applied in the context of software development is also of potential use in the development of software development processes. Accordingly, the MDD approach can potentially be applied in the context of Situational Method Engineering (SME) - a branch devoted to the study of developing bespoke software development processes and methods based on the specific characteristics of the development...

Formation Control of Nnon-Holonomic Mobile Robots
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Namvar, Mehrzad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Providing mobile robots with autonomous capabilities is advantageous. Coordinated group movement of wheeled robots is used in many applications such as rescue missions, investigation and traffic control. According to the non-holonomic constraints from the system equations of a mobile robot, there is no smooth control law for controlling a mobile robot; As a result, the common methods of designing the control law for the wheeled robot system cannot be used. In addition, in the group movement of robots, it is challenging to avoid collisions between robots. In this research, according to the non-holonomic constraints of a wheeled robot, a control law has been designed. The robot's destination...

Abstract
Coating is an effective approach to address the high corrosion rate of biodegradable Mg alloys, as their main challenge toward their extensive use. In this regard, it was tried to control the degradation process of an Mg-4Zn alloy by Ca addition, equal channel angular pressing (ECAP), and hydrothermal coating. The obtained results indicated that excellent grain refinement induced by Ca incorporation and ECAP simultaneously, improved both mechanical strength and corrosion resistance of the Mg-based substrate. The achieved grain refinement resulted in a thicker, more compact and integrated coating, where the ECAP-processed Mg-4Zn-0.5Ca alloy exhibited the best coating quality with no...

Abstract
Polylactic acid (PLA) scaffolds produced by the fused deposition modeling (FDM) method have biocompatibility, close Young's modulus to that of bone, and the ability to make complex shapes. However, PLA has some drawbacks like brittleness, inappropriate mechanical strength and hydrophobicity, and a low degradation rate. In this study, polyethylene glycol (PEG) (5 and 10 wt%) by solving method and titanium (Ti) particles (5 wt%) by two different methods were mixed with PLA to address the mentioned problems. Extruded filaments were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and fourier transform infrared (FTIR). Surface morphology of the produced filaments...
Design Optimization of Pouring basin in the Shape Casting Process
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Davami, Parviz (Supervisor) ; Tavakoli, Rohollah (Supervisor)
Abstract
The pouring basin is a main part in the gating system. The formation of a vortical flow is a big problem occurs during the discharge of melt from the pouring basin. The vortex formation can enter the floating slag and inclusion into the mold. In the case that the vortex is more stronger, a fully air core to the sprue forms and leads to entraining of the air to the mold. These phenomena can decrease the casting quality significantly. Therefore preventing of the vortex is necessary to produce a sound cast. In this study the mechanism of vortex formation is investigated and several solutions are presented to avoid its detrimental effects. For this purpose discharge of a tank is simulated...
Investigating the Microstructure, Mechanical Properties and Corrosion Resistance of Biodegradable Mg-Li-Zn Alloys
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Alizadeh, Reza (Supervisor) ; Tavakoli, Rouhollah (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Due to its biodegradability, magnesium can be a good option for making degradable medical implants that disappear in the body over time and thus there would be no need for secondary surgery. However, high rate of corrosion of magnesium in the body environment and low formability at room temperature are the two main problems of magnesium, which lead to rapid destruction of the sample in a short time and serious problems. For these reasons, much research is currently being done to improve the corrosion behavior and mechanical properties of magnesium alloys through microstructure modification. In this regard, special attention has been paid to Mg-Li alloys as the lightest magnesium alloys. The...

Abstract
This paper models car ownership in Iran based on the data in a period of years 1980 to 2007 by artificial neural network (ANN) and Fuzzy Linear Regression (FLR). The car ownership is mainly affected by purchasing power of the customers, social and demographic factors; the car ownership model has a multi variable form. To explain the effect of these factors, ANN and FLR models are applied. The major reason for applying fuzzy concept and ANN is to overcome the inter-correlation problem associated with the independent variables. In this study, average family size; total population; urban population; urbanization rate; gross national product per capita; gasoline price; total length of road are...
Theoretical study of high repetition rate short pulse generation with fiber optical parametric amplification [electronic resource]
, Article Journal of Lightwave Technology ; May 2012, Volume 30, Issue 9, PP. 1263-1268 ; Ariaei, A. M ; Jadidi, M. M ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif Unversity of Technology
Abstract
In this paper, we study theoretically the generation of high repetition rate short pulses using fiber optical parametric amplification. We show that the pulse shape and duration depend on the signal location relatively to the pump frequency. We demonstrate that in order to get the shortest pulse width, the signal must be located at one of the extremities of the gain spectrum associated with the pump peak power. We derive the analytical expression of the pulse shape in this case and compare it to the exponential gain regime case. Using numerical simulations, we also analyze the impact of walk-off and pump phase modulation that is required to suppress Stimulated Brillouin Scattering and derive...

Abstract
This paper reports a polarization controllable and angle-insensitive perfect metamaterial absorber (PMA). The proposed PMA consists of periodically arranged asymmetric omega-shaped resonators made of metallic copper. The absorptivity was analyzed considering the microwave C-band from 4 GHz to 8 GHz. The proposed PMA shows an absorption peak with almost 100% absorptivity at 6.2 GHz. Also, wideband negative index of refraction is observed. Further, the absorber is inspected for the different rotation angles of the top metasurface (omega-shaped ring) along the optical axis, and obliquity of incidence angle for both TE and TM polarized waves. Moreover, surface electric field and surface current...

Abstract
In cloud computing, services play key roles. Services are well defined and autonomous components. Nowadays, the demand of using Fuzzy inference as a service is increasing in the domain of complex and critical systems. In such systems, along with the development of the software, the cost of detecting and fixing software defects increases. Therefore, using formal methods, which provide clear, concise, and mathematical interpretation of the system, is crucial for the design of these Fuzzy systems. To obtain this goal, we introduce the Fuzzy Inference Cloud Service (FICS) and propose a novel discipline for formal modeling of the FICS. The FICS provides the service of Fuzzy inference to the...

Abstract
Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication is an important type of communication in the Internet-of-Things (IoT). How to send data in these high-density communications using relay selection can help improve the performance of this type of communication in various applications. In addition, the possibility of simultaneous use of different Radio Frequency (RF) interfaces helps to use the spectrum more efficiently. In this work, we try to further use machine communication RF equipment and improve the average data rate of networks in some applications such as the IoT, which have their own bandwidth requirements. Therefore, we provide an optimization algorithm for relay selection as well as the...
