Aerodynamics Design of Aviation High-speed Radial Turbine with a Feasibility on Cooling
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghorbanian, Kaveh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Radial turbines with small dimensions and in small power capacities are of great interest. In general, turbine performance improvement and higher output power may be achieved through increasing the inlet mass flow rates however at the expense of more weight and larger dimensions. On the other hand, increasing the inlet total temperature to the turbine will result in higher power potentials. Nevertheless, the turbine needs to be cooled in case that the intended inlet temperature goes beyond the turbine material limitation. In this thesis, radial turbine equations are reviewed and the logic of a 1D algorithm is developed where parameters like the total temperature, total pressure, and mass...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Moradi, Hamed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Power transmission lines, which are responsible for the distribution and transmission of electrical energy from the power plant to the consumer areas, due to their characteristics such as long length and flexibility with low structural damping, face environmental irritations, especially the galloping phenomenon, causing many damages annually. In this study, it has been attempted to reduce the vibrations of power transmission lines by designing a robust active control and by using intermediate actuators in such a way that the failures of these lines can be prevented. For this purpose, linear modeling of the system and designing the controller using the pole replacement method have been done....
Inferring APIs Correct Usage Rules From Their Source Code
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kharrazi, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Researchers show that one of the critical sources of bugs is API incorrect usage which in some cases can cause serious security vulnerabilities. The lack of knowledge about API correct usage rules is one of the main reasons that APIs are employed incorrectly by programmers, however, nding a correct usage rule for an API is time-consuming and error-prone particularly without having access to API documentation in most cases. Existing approaches to automatically extract correct usage rules, consider the majority usages as the correct rule for an API. Although statistically extracting API correct usage rules can achieve reasonable accuracy, it cannot work correctly in the absence of fair amount...

Abstract
This paper presents the feedback linearization control of HIV infection. A multi-input multi-output (MIMO) dynamic nonlinear HIV infection model for this purpose has been used. For this purpose, three widely used drugs are considered. A Luenberger-like nonlinear observer (LNO) is designed for estimation of unavailable states. To minimize the side effects of drugs, the concentration of ZDV which has the highest side effect is fixed to a minimum value and the external controllers parameters are obtained by maximizing an objective function. In the control design, limitations on drug consumption and unavailability of all states are taken into account. The closed-loop stability has been...

Abstract
This project presents appropriate strategies for HIV infection treatment. In order to close the presented strategy to real treatment regimen, appropriate parameters are selected for the HIV infection model, real outputs are considered for the system, and three widely used drugs (one PI: ritonavir (RDV), two RTIs: lamivudine (3TC) and zidovudine (ZDV)) are used to design a drug regimen. A Luenberger-like nonlinear observer (LNO) is also designed for estimation of unmeasurable states. In order to minimize the side effects of drug regimen, the concentration of ZDV is fixed at a minimum value at all time because this drug has a greater side effects than other drugs and the parameters of...

Quad-Tree decomposition method for areal upscaling of heterogeneous reservoirs: Application to arbitrary shaped reservoirs
, Article Fuel ; Volume 139 , 2014 , Pages 659-670 ; 00162361 (ISSN) ; Jamshidi, S ; Hajizadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology
2014
Abstract
In this paper, Quad-Tree decomposition method is applied for areal upscaling of irregular shaped petroleum reservoirs. Quad-Tree decomposition is a recursive data structuring technique which generates an upscaled model with non-uniform (unstructured) gridblocks. This type of coarsening reduces the number of gridblocks, but preserves the main heterogeneity features of the original fine model. Because of the quadruplet nature of the Quad-Tree decomposition, this method cannot be used for upscaling of irregular-shaped models, directly. In this study, by circumscribing a square to the irregular-shaped reservoirs, a temporary model is obtained which can be upscaled by Quad-Tree decomposition....

Enhanced Superhydrophobic and Photocatalytic Characteristics of Tio2 Hybrid Nanocoating for Self-cleaning Applications
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mohammadi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Many researches have been made on super hydrophobic and photocatalyst nano coatings in the last decades as a solution to some environmental issues. Among all semiconductors chosen for this property, titanium dioxide is often used because of it's low cost, ease of accessibility and stability in different chemical circumstances to break up organic pollutions. Mixing this property of TiO2 with hydrophobic manner of SiO2 causes a superhydrophobe & photocatalyst nano coating. Doping TiO2 with another semiconductor may also improve photocatalytic behavior of coating by increasing surface area of reaction or decreasing the band-gap.In this research TiO2-SiO2 hybrid nano coating is made via...

Metric learning for graph based semi-supervised human pose estimation
, Article Proceedings - International Conference on Pattern Recognition ; 2012 , Pages 3386-3389 ; 10514651 (ISSN) ; 9784990644109 (ISBN) ; Rabiee, H. R ; Zolfaghari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Discriminative approaches to human pose estimation have became popular in recent years. These approaches face a big challenge: Similar inputs might correspond to very dissimilar poses. This property misleads the mapping functions which rely on the Euclidean distances in the input space. In this paper, we use the distances between the labels of the training data to learn a metric and map the input data to a space where this problem is minimized. Our mapping is linear and hence preserves the manifold structure of the input data. We benefit from the unlabeled data to estimate this manifold in the new space as a nearest neighbor graph. We finally utilize Tikhonov regularization to find a smooth...

Abstract
Fluid flow behavior in a porous medium is a function of the geometry and topology of its pore space. The construction of a three dimensional pore space model of a porous medium is therefore an important first step in characterizing the medium and predicting its flow properties. A stochastic technique for reconstruction of the 3D pore structure of unstructured random porous media from a 2D thin section training image is presented. The proposed technique relies on successive 2D multiple point statistics simulations coupled to a multi-scale conditioning data extraction procedure. The Single Normal Equation Simulation Algorithm (SNESIM), originally developed as a tool for reproduction of...

Abstract
In the recent years, different mathematical models have been suggested for maneuvering of displacement vessels that are capable of estimation of vessel maneuvers with acceptable precision. These mathematical models are based on determined hydrodynamic coefficients and their accuracy depends on the known coefficients used to solve the mathematical model. System identification methods are developed to calculate these coefficients utilizing input and output data obtained from different sources. In this research, a 4.36-m model of KRISO Container Ship (KCS) displacement vessel has been manufactured by fiberglass, and the maneuver turning tests have been carried by self-propulsion method. A...

Abstract
In the recent years, different mathematical models have been suggested for maneuvering of displacement vessels, which are capable to estimate maneuvering of the vessel with acceptable precision. But, simulation of planing craft maneuverability through a mathematical model has not been developed yet. In this paper, a mathematical model is developed for maneuvering of the planing craft by including the rudder forces and moments. Different maneuvers, such as straight-line stability, course keeping, and turning circle, are executed through the mathematical model. Simulation results are validated with the published experimental results and it is shown that they are in good agreement. Finally, the...

Capital Structure Impact on the Performance of Listed Companies in the Tehran Stock Exchange
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hajizadeh, Iman (Supervisor)
Abstract
This thesis analyses the relationship between performance and capital structure of listed companies in the Tehran stock exchange. For examining this relationship, we use trade-off theory. This theory states that using debt comes with some benefits and costs for the company. If this theory holds true, we expect that in a low debt capital structure, as a result of benefits of using debt surpasses the costs of it, the relationship between debt and performance should be positive and in a high debt capital structure, as a result of costs of using debt surpasses the benefits of it, using more debt should have negative relationship with performance. For examining this relationship, we first gather...
Performance optimization of a long rod penetrator penetrating into a semi-infinite target considering bending characteristics
, Article Turkish Journal of Engineering and Environmental Sciences ; Volume 33, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 9-20 ; 13000160 (ISSN) ; Zohoor, H ; Nezamabadi, A ; Zolfaghari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this article a new parameter is introduced that optimizes penetration depth of a long rod penetrating into a semi-infinite target. This parameter helps to optimize penetration depth when the projectile is subjected to transverse loading. This parameter is defined using a simple assumption governing bending moment and deflection of the rod as well as the experimental observation of long rod penetrators having aspect ratios (L/D) of greater than 30. In this article the length of the rod that sustains allowable bending stress but does not fail is calculated. Using the results of the bending analysis and solution of the Alekseevskii & Tate (AT) equation, an analytical method to optimize...

Abstract
In this paper we consider a single machine multi-product lot scheduling problem in which defective items are produced in any production run of each product. In each cycle after the normal production of each product the machine is setup for the rework of the defectives of the same product and then the rework process starts. We assume that the setup time for the normal production process as well as the rework process is non-zero. Further we consider the waiting time cost of defectives for rework. This paper has two objectives. The first objective is to obtain the economic batch quantity (EBQ) for a single product. The second objective is to extend the result of the first objective to the...
