Kinetic and Equilibrium Modeling of The Gas Adsorption on Adsorbent by Multilayer and Monolayer Adsorption Mechanism

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bidaki, Amin (Author) ; Ghotbi, Cyrus (Supervisor) ; Jafari Behbahani, Taraneh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
gas adsorption in porous solids and adsorbent,is the important cases in gas processing industries. Including the removal of compounds such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans from sour gas in natural gas sweetening industry is of great importance. Also in solving the greenhouse phenomena extraction of gases such as methane and carbon dioxide of important environmental issues. To understand and predict the behavior of the absorption capacity of various adsorbents and thus the possibility of absorption systems, a mathematical model is needed.Library resources available in order to determine the kinetics and thermodynamic processes of gas adsorption on solid absorbents use...

Design and Synthesis of Functionalized Magnetic Nanocomposites for Removal of Dye And Heavy Metal Ions from Water and Theoretical Study on Their Selectivity

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Abedin Moghanaki, Azardokht (Author) ; Pourjavadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, it reports the fabrication of novel magnetic nanocomposites combining the unique properties of magnetic nanoparticles and cross-linked basic polymers that their surface functionalized by suitable groups such as carboxylate groups, pentaethylenehexamine and so on to achieve the maximum adsorption capacity of dyes and heavy metal ions. The performance of the magnetic nanocomposites for removal of anionic and cationic dyes and heavy metal ions were evaluated in different conditions of pH, contact time and initial concentrations. Moreover, the adsorption mechanism was investigated by kinetic models and isotherm studies. The results showed that the abovementioned adsorbents can...

Fabrication and Characterization of Porous Carbon-Graphene Composite as an Absorbent for Industrial Pollutants

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Alizadeh, Omid (Author) ; Madaah Hosseini, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Pourjavadi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Bahramian, Ahmad Reza (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The amount of fresh water suitable for various uses is decreasing day by day. This may be due to evaporation or contamination of water or such. Heavy metal cations, dyes, oils and solvents are the most important substances that contaminate water. There are various ways to remove these contaminants, one of which is the absorption of these substances by suitable absorbents. Carbon compounds have attracted much attention among all the absorbents used so far. The aim of this study is to produce carbon aerogels from an economic and modify its structure and properties by adding graphene nanosheets. In this study, Novalak-graphene oxide (GO) gel was fabricated using solvent-saturated vapor...

Synthesis, Characterization, and Enhanced Optical/Electronic Properties of g-C3N4 Nanosheets for Water Remediation

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Yousefi, Mahdieh (Author) ; Moshfegh, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Asgari, Reza (Supervisor) ; Naseri, Naimeh (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
A global concern has arisen owing to rapid industrial development and population growth, resulting in energy scarcity and earth pollution. In this regard, developing green and sustainable methods for producing clean energy and solving environmental pollution problems have absorbed enormous attention. Among various auspicious strategies, semiconductor photocatalysis has been widely studied in recent years owing to its capabilities to obtain hydrogen as an energy carrier, to remove organic pollutants, and to reduce CO2 emission by converting solar energy into chemical energy. Recently, a metal-free semiconductor photocatalyst based on graphitic carbon nitride, g-C3N4, has received much...

Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxanes based Materials as Sorbent and Sensor

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Soufi, Gohar (Author) ; Bagheri, Habib (Supervisor) ; Jamali, Sirous (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main approach in this thesis is the synthesis and identification of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquisans (POSS) and their modification with suitable functional groups to induce desired properties and use them as adsorbents or sensor. In the first work, POSSs were used as three-dimensional porous compounds with special properties as extractant phase in solid phase croextraction. Selective extraction of polar and non-polar molecules to particle size and functional groups on POSS. In this research, a threedimensional network of POSS including naphthalene diimide (POSS-NDI) and perylene diimide (POSS-PDI) as an extractant phase capable of absorbing volatile organic compounds was used to...
