Demand Response Participation in Wholesale Electricity Markets

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Parvania, Masoud (Author) ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, Mahmoud (Supervisor) ; Shahidehpour, Mohammad (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Promising advancement in smart technologies, in terms of information, control and communication infrastructures, along with utilization of demand response (DR) and distributed energy resources in system operation is transforming the legacy power systems to smart electricity grids. Smart grid operators would be able to utilize flexibility of loads and electricity energy storage (EES) systems for secure and economic operation of power systems.
The idea of DR and EES participation in wholesale energy markets is proposed in this thesis. A hierarchical framework for DR participation in day-ahead energy markets is developed in which DR aggregators aggregate small customers’ load reduction and...

A Decision Framework for Participation of Electric Vehicles in Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) Considering Players' Utility

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sarparandeh, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Ehsan, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The inevitable emergence of electric vehicles into the transportation industry in the near future can be a potential challenge or an opportunity for the power system. Vehicle-to-Grid can provide services for microgrids and the electricity market. The players of the game for participation of electric vehicles in microgrid or electricity market are vehicle owners, microgrid operators, and the aggregators. The formation and continuation of this interaction requires the interests of all institutions involved in the subject to be considered. Since there has not yet been an established conceptual or executive framework for the utilization of these vehicles in Vehicle-to-Grid idea considering...

A Multi-Objective Model of Economic and Environmental Simultaneous Programming in the Supply Chain Based on the Goal Programming of Algorithms Based on Aggregator Algorithms

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nik Panjeh, Hesammoddin (Author) ; Haji, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Mostafavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the key challenges and issues in proper supply chain planning is that decision-making in one area affects other areas, and one-dimensional optimization of goals leads to inefficiency in other goals. One of the problems in this field is the realization of a multi-objective model of simultaneous economic and environmental planning in the supply chain. Accordingly, this study aimed to present a multi-objective model of simultaneous economic and environmental programming in the supply chain based on the goal programming of aggregator algorithms. This study is practical in terms of purpose and it is descriptive and developmental in terms of research method. In this way, using two models of...

Managing the Operation of Energy Aggregators with the Aim of Improving The Use of Electric Vehicles in Distributed Energy Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fatahian Firuzabadi, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Moeini Aghtaei, Moein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, electric vehicles (EVs) have emerged as an effective solution to reduce pollution caused by the use of fossil fuels in the transportation sector. While EVs contribute to improved air quality, managing their charging and discharging processes is crucial. To address this, EV aggregators act as intermediaries between EVs and the power grid, primarily responsible for controlling the charging and discharging of a fleet of EVs with the objective of maximizing their profits. On the other hand, to reduce fossil fuel consumption in electricity generation, efforts are underway to transition consumers into prosumers and equip residential complexes with distributed energy resources...
