Synthesis of some Cu(II) - 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)-2-oxazoline and Mn(III) - 2-(2',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-oxazoline Complexes and their Application as Catalysts in Sulfides and Alcohols Oxidations

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology tahay moghadam, Pooya (Author) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project two manganese(III) complexes with 2-(2',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-oxazoline ligand, [Mn(4-OHphox)3], [Mn(4-OHphox)2(CH3OH)2]ClO4 and a copper(II) complex with 2-(2'-hydroxy)-2-oxazoline ligand have been synthesized. The complexes and the ligands were characterized by elemental analysis (CHN), FT-IR and 1HNMR spectroscopies. Oxidation of sulfides catalyzed by these complexes using urea-hydrogen peroxide (UHP) as oxidant within short reaction times (5 min) was investigated. The results showed that catalytic efficiency of [Mn(4-OHphox)3] complex was better than other complexes. Optimization of the catalyst system presented a high selectivity of sulfoxide (90-100%) in a few time (5...

Synthesis and Catalytic Properties of Novel Manganese (III)-oxazine Complex in Oxidation of Sulfides and Alcohols

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadlou, Ali Akbar (Author) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study new manganese(III) complexes of phox [Mn(phox)2(MeOH)2](ClO4), (phox= 2-(2` hydroxyphenyl)-5,6-dihydro-1,3-oxazine) have been synthesized and characterized with CHN,NMR and IR.The six-membered bidentate (N,O) oxazine ligand have been widely used throughout organometallic and inorganic chemistry, and are particularly important in homogeneous catalysis. The presence of N and O donor sites in oxazines may modify significantly the ligand roles for the variation of steric and electronic properties. Therefore, such systems are worth exploring for new catalytic uses . Catalytic oxidation reactions provide excellent alternatives for the use of stoichiometric reagents like urea...

Synthesis of Metallophthalocyanine Nanoparticls and Its Application in the Oxidation of Organic Compounds, and Investigation of Hydrogen Bonding Effect on the Basicity of Amines and Orbital Interactions on Acidity Enhacment of Alcohols

    Abstract
This thesis is divided into two parts: In part I, which is theoretical part, we were looking for a computational method which is extensively comparable with experimental results to determine pKa of wide variety of organic compounds. The pKa is an important property in many sciences such as chemistry, biology, and material science, since inclination of a compound to donate or accept a proton is fundamental to understanding many chemical and biochemical processes. Experimentally determined pKa values are not always available from literature sources and often estimated values are employed in their place. It is useful, therefore, to have reliable and accurate means of calculating relative and/or...

Designing of Magnetic Nanocatalyst and their Application in Oxidation of Alcohols and Other Functional Groups

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Bayat, Ahmad (Author) ; Mahmoodi Hashemi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, heterogenous catalysts based on magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized. In these catalysts, magnetic nanoparticles were coated with defferent fuctional groups to produce a catalyst with magnetic properties which is easily separated from the reaction medium. The structure of synthesized catalyst was characterized using techniques such as transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and CHNS elemental analysis. Easy preparation, low cost, biodegradability and high thermal stability are advantages of these catalysts. At the end, the catalytic properties of resulted catalysts were investigated in many...

Design of a Colorimetric Sensor Array Based on Aggregation of Gold Nanoparticles on the Surface of Probiotic Bacteria for Identification and Discrimination of Antiseptic Alcohols

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghamsari, Mahdi (Author) ; Hormozinezhad, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent rising demand for purchasing alcohol-based sanitizers led to a remarkable prosperity in supplying these hygiene products. Hence, the development of a straightforward and efficient analytical strategy for discrimination of antiseptic alcohols including methanol, ethanol and isopropanol is of great importance. By exploiting the alcohol-sensitive membranes of probiotic bacteria, this research aims to develop a colorimetric sensor array for discriminating methanol, ethanol and isopropanol. In this design, the aggregation of citrate-capped gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) on the thiol-modified surface of two probiotic bacteria, including...
