Theoretical and Experimental Study of the Partitioning of Cephalexin in Aqueous Two Phase System of Polymer-Salt

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khederlou, Khadijeh (Author) ; Teghikhani, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Ghotbi, Cirouc (Supervisor) ; vossoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The aqueous two phase systems provide a suitable environment for separation and purification of biological compounds. Because both phases are water rich and biomolecule remain active in them. In this work, the partition coefficients of Cephalexin in polymer-salt aqueous two-phase systems have been measured. The experimental results were obtained at three various temperatures (37.2, 34.2 and 28.2) C and in each temperature, two salt (K2HPO4, Na3Cit) and two polymer with different molecular weight (4000, 10000) are investigated. According to the two phase analysis, the effect of different factors on tie line of systems is studied. It is observed that with increasing the PEG molecular weight,...

Novel Sol Gel– and Electrospun– Based Nanostructure Sorbents for Extraction of Drugs and Pollutants

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Asgari, Sara (Author) ; Bagheri, Habib (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main purpose of this dissertation was to synthesize nanostructured adsorbents based on the sol–gel and electrospinning methods and implement them to the trace determination of the desired analytes from different matrices. In the first and second chapters, a summary of the sol–gel and electrospinning methods along with a glance on extraction methods are presented. Then, the implemented projects are presented in the consecutive chapters. In the first work, third chapter, silica nanofibers were successfully produced using electrospinning method. In this process, sol–gel was formed during electrospinning and then, the backbone polymer was removed by heating. To obtain a thin layer of silica...

Investigation of The Treatment of Wastewater Containing Antibiotics by Using MBBR

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saki, Abbas (Author) ; Borghei, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Antibiotic medications are widely used in medicine and veterinary medicine. Since these drugs are extremely dangerous to the environment and specially to drinking water for humans and other organisms, the need to treat these wastewater is becoming increasingly important. One of the most commonly used antibiotics is oxytetracycline which is used for a wide range of infectious diseases Husbandry wastewater is one of the wastewaters that contains high diversity and large amounts of antibiotics. In this study, the performance of a Moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) was investigated for removal of oxytetracycline from synthetic wastewater with similar characteristics to Husbandry wastewater. A...

Liposome Nanoparticles Synthesis in order to Study the Antibiotic Drug Delivery in Simulated Environment of Body

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bahari, Mohsen (Author) ; Alemzadeh, Iran (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, much attention has been paid to the preparation of nanoparticles as carriers for drug delivery. Nanoparticle carriers, by changing the pharmacokinetic properties of the drug, improve the function of the drug and reduce its side effects. In the manufacture of nanoparticles, various materials such as polymers, metal particles, lipids, etc. are used to transfer the drugs, which can produce a different shape and size of the particles depending on their production method. The purpose of this project is the synthesis of liposomal nanoparticles (as nano-carriers) to load an antibiotic (Eucalyptus oil) and study the release of the encapsulated drug in the simulated environment of...

A Gold Nanoparticle-based Colorimetric Sensor Array for Detection and Discrimination of Antibiotics in Groundwater

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hassannia, Maryam (Author) ; Hormozinezhad, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Antibiotics (ABs) have been regarded as powerful medications to treat or prevent bacterial infections. The antibiotic resistance though, is one of daunting challenges of our time which has been attributed to the overuse of these drugs and usage of antibiotic-contaminated food resources. Developing rapid and visual detection methods capable of simultaneously monitoring Abs is highly desired due to their harmful effects on human health. In the present study, we have designed a colorimetric sensor array consisting of two types of gold nanoparticles (i.e., Citrate-capped gold nanoparticles (Cit-AuNPs) and Borohydride-capped gold nanoparticles (BH4-AuNPs) for the discrimination and determination...

Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Pollutants in the Presence of Nanocomposites Based on Graphitic Carbon Nitride under Visible Light Illumination

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hasanvandian, Farzad (Author) ; Hamzehlouyan, Tayebeh (Supervisor) ; Rahman Setayesh, Shahrbanoo (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The susceptible light-harvesting and tremendous reduction capability along with the potentiality (photo)electrochemical merits of the thiospinels like CuCo2S4 (CCS) bring forth appreciably an advancement in efficacious photocatalytic reactions. However, scant oxidation potential originated from 3p orbitals of sulfur atoms puts a damper on their performance and is even conducive to self-oxidation. In this research, the surfactant/template free of hierarchical CCS thiospinels was synthesized using solvothermal sulfidation of the affordable glycerate-based CuCo-alkoxide and successfully was embedded with Z-scheme V2O5 deposited on wrinkled g-C3N4 lamella (VO-UCN) in the interest of developing...

Antibiotic Delivery System for Dental Pulp

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahmoradi, Elnaz (Author) ; Abdekhodaie, Mohammad Jafari (Supervisor) ; Nekoofar, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A triple antibiotic mixture (ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, and minocycline) has been used for dental root canal medicaments in pulp regeneration therapy. However, tooth discolorations, cervical root fractures, and inadequate pulp-dentin formation have been reported due to the triple antibiotic regimen. Therefore, antibiotic containing scaffold has been developed to minimize the clinical limitations and maximize a natural healing process in root canal infections. The ideal controlled release drug device should have the following characteristics. It should not degrade inside the root canal and it should be easily inserted into and removed from the root canal. In addition, the drug should be...

Controlled Release Delivery System for Antibiotic in Bone Cement

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Beyki Sarve ol’ya, Mohammad Saeed (Author) ; Abd Khodaei, Mohammad Jafar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The incidence of skeletal diseases such as osteoarthritis and its progression and the need to use knee replacement implants have significant effects on the quality of life. With the improvement of living conditions and the prolongation of the average life expectancy of the society and the aging of a large part of the society, the concern about the increase in the incidence of skeletal diseases and the need to use alternative implants increases. On the other hand, many conditions such as osteoporosis and accidents lead to fractures and cavities in the bones. Bone cements are one of the most widely used materials in orthopedic and spinal surgeries. The aim of this study was to construct a...
