Design and Fabrication of a Microfluidic System Based on Dielectrophoresis for Enrichment and Separation of Bioparticles

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahmani, Ali (Author) ; Mohammadi, Ali Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main purposes of this project are simulation, design, and fabrication of a microfluidic system based on dielectrophoresis (DEP) exploiting AC voltages for separation of microparticles. Generally, this project can be divided into two parts. First, the engineering section including design and fabrication of microchip, and second biological samples preparation for investigating the system performance. The main advantages of proposed system are eliminating joule heating, a significant problem in insulating based dielectrophoresis systems, overcoming problems related to metal contamination in biological samples, the main problem of conventional dielectrophoresis platforms, and removing...

Design and Fabrication of Impedance Flowcytometric based Microfluidic Sorter

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Esmaeili Dokht, Pouria (Author) ; Fardmanesh, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Microfluidic technology is a field of science that deals with the design, fabrication, and experimental tests of small-scale fluid systems and has made great strides over the past decade. As an interdisciplinary field, this growing field of technology has many applications in medicine, diagnostics, chemical analysis, electronics industry, etc. One of the primary applications of the microfluidic devices is the development of " laboratory on-chip (LOC)" tools as point-of-care (POC) diagnostic tools, such as, rapid detection during surgery. A LOC device includes various application modules, sample transfer and preparation modules, separation modules, and detection and analysis modules. The...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Olyanasab, Ali (Author) ; Fardmanesh, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Annabestani, Mohsen (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Microfluidic technology is a field of science that deals with the design, implementation, optimization, and testing of fluid systems in small dimensions. This technology has made significant progress in various fields in the last decade, especially in medical engineering. As an interdisciplinary scientific field, this growing technology has many applications in medicine, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, and electronic industries. One of the primary applications of microfluidic devices is the development of "lab-on-a-chip" systems as point-of-care diagnostic tools, such as rapid diagnosis during surgery. A microfluidic system includes various functional modules: sample preparation and fluid...

Design, Simulation, and Fabrication of DEP-Based Microfluidic Chip for Bioparticles Separation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vamegh, Reza (Author) ; Fardmanesh, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Microfluidics, employing fluids in structures with micrometer dimensions, is an emerging technology that has brought great opportunities to develop various devices including lab-on-a-chip systems. Lab-on-a-chip systems have the advantages of integrating several stages of different analytical methods, application in diverse fields, consumption of small volumes of samples, and portability. One of the crucial applications of lab-on-a-chip devices is sorting cells and biological particles, done by different methods. In separator devices, high separation efficiency and repeatability are critical. When a neutral particle is polarized in a non-uniform electric field, the dielectrophoresis force...
