    Abstract
One of the basic resources for lithium extraction is brine which is very abundance in Iran. It is important to characterize these brines and their compositions to select a suitable method for lithium recovery from them. By investigation of the local brines and determining lithium and other alkali metals composition in them, the ion exchange process using titanium dioxide ion-sieve with nanotube morphology is suggested as highly effective method for lithium extraction from Iranian brines. Due to high advantages of hydrothermal process, TiO2 nanotubes were produced by this method and the optimum parameters of hydrothermal reactions were reported. In this way, hydrogen titanate nanotubes with...

    Abstract
Today a significant portion of the world magnesia supply is produced by approximately 20 manufacturers by precipitation of magnesium hydroxide either from seawater or brine sources, which amounts to about 14% of the world magnesia production. The first synthetic magnesia production occurred along the French coast of the Mediterranean Sea, near Aiques-Mortes, operating sometime before 1885. Magnesium hydroxide was precipitated from seawater by reacting it with milk of lime in a continuous fashion using three sequential agitated reactors. Because of the abundance of brine resources enrich in Magnesium in our country, in this project, was tried to precipitate Magnesium Hydroxide from brine...

Forward Osmosis in High Saline Water Desalination

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadipuya, Salman (Author) ; Soltanieh, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Musavi, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to population growth, per capita change and heterogeneous distribution of water resources, forecasts demonstrate that more than 66% of the world's population will experience water scarcity by 2025. The major concern of desalination is their management of brine, with concentrations and their associated components more than twice the input concentration. Also, when extracting oil, per 1 oil barrel, about 7 to 10 barrels of high saline water are produced. One of the most common methods for disposing of brine is direct discharge into the environment, which, due to its destructive effects, creates serious threats to marine ecosystems. Therefore, it is necessary to desalting these high saline...

Extraction of Lithium Salts From Brine Containing Lithium Ion with Low Concentration

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Akbari Ziarani, Payam (Author) ; Molai Dehkordi, Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research aims to extract lithium from brines with low concentrations. Aluminum hydroxide has been chosen as a suitable and selective adsorbent. This absorbent is made by combining one of the aluminum salts in an alkaline environment. Due to the high cost of providing the raw materials for making the absorbent and sensitivity to the pH value and environmental harm, it is suggested that the absorbent be made by hydrolysis of water by aluminum particles. The manufacturing method has shown promising results in such a way that with the combination of NaCl+CaO and aluminum and activation by ball mill, the amount of extraction is 97% at a temperature of 40 ˚C; in two days, the molar ratio of...
