Conceptual Simulation Of Bus Fire by FDS

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soori, Ahmad (Author) ; Farhanieh, Bijan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Buses are among safe means of transportation; however, they have a risk of a fire catastrophe with high fatalities if fire occurs in a situation where escape is difficult. In this study, numerical simulation is used to investigate bus fire using Fire Dynamics Simulator of NIST. Five fire scenarios have been considered to investigate the impact of doors and ceiling windows on fire with the aim of protecting the lives of passengers and controlling fire. In the simulations, time of flashover, temperature distribution near the ceiling, heat release rate and smoke distribution are investigated. Results show that scenarios with open ceiling windows are appropriate for passenger safety as they have...

Investigation of Reaction Times and Maneuver for Bus Drivers Based on Road and Drivers Characteristics Using Driving Simulator

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yahyazadeh, Ehsan (Author) ; Vaziri, Manouchehr (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most prominent issues in road safety is to observe reaction time and sight distance in geometric design. Various sight distances are available is Iran's specifications on "Geometric Design of Roadways" taken from the AASHTO standard from which stopping sight distance, decision sight distance and their corresponding car driver reaction times are noteworthy. This research puts effort in obtaining these values for bus drivers in Iran. To achieve this, a test designed using bus driving simulator apparatus, developed in K.N.Toosi University of Technology, was conducted on a number of bus drivers. Obtained results of driver behavior were then analyzed and compared to corresponding...

Numerical Simulation of Flow Generated by a Cigarette in a Bus

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soltan Panah, Mohsen (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Asghari, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study pollution generated by a electronic cigarette in a bus is observed. Resultant smoke from these products consist of different components which may endanger health and one should make sure them amount in general transport vehicles like bus are in permissible limit. These components are initially in liquid shape and evaporate. Tracking liquid particles are done with the aim of Lagrangian approach. For this the geometry is generated at first. Then structured mesh was generated with ICEM CFD which is a powerful mesher. Different conditions of smoking source and bus doors were studies and results were compared.Change of pollutant concentrations is strictly depend on position of...
