Survey Effect Of Deoxidation Of Simple Carbon Steel Feeding In Sand Mold

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Morshed, Sobhan (Author) ; Davami, Parviz (Supervisor) ; Varahram, Naser (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Prevent shrinkage and porosity in the melting parts expensive attention has been cast as a piece of low cost healthy and free from defects in casting production. Calculated feeding distance and the required number of risers. Also ensure that more tests were done with computer simulation compared the results acceptable to have the cast and expensive to produce a piece has nearly no troubleshooting. Variety of factors can affect the riser effect is melting parts Read some of these factors include alloy melting, superheat and mold .... . Oxygen factor in the project as one of the molten factors between feeding distance for molten plain carbon steel melting components and parts reviews and...

Effect of Nitrogen Addition on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a Pearlitic Matrix Gray Cast Iron

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kamoori Yousefabad, Elham (Author) ; Davami, Parviz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Gray Cast Irons are the most important engineering Cast Irons. Gray color of fracture surface and morphology of graphite flakes are the reasons of this naming. Gray iron is relatively cheap with easy production; because of wide chemical composition range rather other cast irons. Furthermore, shrinkage and feeding in the casts from gray iron, besides surface finishing by machining are easy. The other properties of gray iron are resistance against sliding wear, high thermal conduction coefficient, low module of elasticity and thermally shock resistance. In this research, the effects of added nitrogen as an alloying element and cooling rate on microstructure, hardness and tensile properties of...

Macrostructure and Mechanical Properties of Structural Composite of Aluminum and Stainless Steel Net Processed by Casting and Rolling

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Keshavarz Kermani, Ali (Author) ; Akbarzadeh, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Having the high strength to weight ratio has been made the composites special materials very important these days. The low density of aluminum and its appropriate corrosion properties make it a good choice for metallic matrix. Also, the high tensile strength of stainless steel fibers can helps as a reinforcement in the composite to improve its mechanical properties. Enhancing the bonding of composite’s components can helps it to develop its properties. Casting is an appropriate process for making an aluminum matrix containing steel fibers as reinforcement in a structural composite. In addition, rolling process can remove so many defects made by casting, and improve joining of fibers and...

An Investigation on Mechanical Properties of Mg-CNT Composites Produced using the Casting Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mousavi Nezhad, Hadi (Author) ; Karimi Taheri, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Since the discovery of nanomaterials, the nanotubes have found special considerations. The high strength beside the low density, have attracted the interest of the scientists and engineers. Nowadays, one of the common methods to produce composites with high specific strength is to utilize of the nanotubes in the matrix of lightweight metals and alloys such as magnesium and aluminum. Recent researches indicate that very limited focus has been given to the production and properties of the magnesium - carbon nanotube composites and their workability. In this research, magnesium alloy - carbon nanotube composite is produced by casting method and its strength and workability are investigated as...

Design Optimization of Pouring basin in the Shape Casting Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zohrevand, Milad (Author) ; Davami, Parviz (Supervisor) ; Tavakoli, Rohollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The pouring basin is a main part in the gating system. The formation of a vortical flow is a big problem occurs during the discharge of melt from the pouring basin. The vortex formation can enter the floating slag and inclusion into the mold. In the case that the vortex is more stronger, a fully air core to the sprue forms and leads to entraining of the air to the mold. These phenomena can decrease the casting quality significantly. Therefore preventing of the vortex is necessary to produce a sound cast. In this study the mechanism of vortex formation is investigated and several solutions are presented to avoid its detrimental effects. For this purpose discharge of a tank is simulated...

Optimal Design of Parting Line in the Shape Casting Processes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Pourfathi, Ali (Author) ; Tavakkoli, Rouhollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
More than 70 weight percentage of using parts in diverse industries (such as military, civil, automobile productions and etc.) are produceed by the casting processes. For each one of the casting procceses, mold cavity is requisite for arrived molten metal in the mold cavity to get eventuated as a solidified part. Based on mold ilk, if the mold is permanent, the cast part must be capable to be remoeved from the the mold inside. For the non-permanent mold (asssuming multi-piece and non-monolithic), if the model requires to be removed from the mold inside after molding and before casting, only model (no cast part) has to be moldable (why for removing the solidified cast part from the...

The Effect of Thickness and Heat Treatment on Residual Stress of Aluminum 356 Castings

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ganji Moqadam, Omid (Author) ; Ashuri, Hosein (Supervisor) ; Varahram, Naser (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of this research is to investigate the residual stresses generates during solidification of a casting part and the effect of casting geometry and thermal treatment conditions on these stresses. The pattern was designed with to arms to ensure tensile tension. CO2 process was used for modeling and due to the high hardness of the mold, it also acts as a constraint and exacerbates the tension. To measure tensions in parts, two methods consist of Hole Drilling, and an innovative method based on heat treatment and dimension change have been used. The results of the two methods show the same values of stress. The Hole Drilling method is a verified and high-precision method, which is...
