Investigation of Nano Scale Cementite Workability by Using Molecular Dynamics Simulation

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Ghaffarian, Hadi (Author) ; Karimi Taheri, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the nano-scale deformation mechanism of cementite was investigated with aid of Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation using MEAM potential. For this purpose, flow localization was evaluated in various structures such as single crystal cementite, nanocrystalline (NC) cementite, and lamellar cementite at various temperatures and different stress conditions. In order to understand the deformation mechanism in the cementite single crystal, two cylindrical samples with 15 nm length and 5 nm diameter oriented along [001] and [011] were constructed. The result of tensile test simulation at 100 K, 300 K, 700 K and 1100 K revealed that the deformation mechanism in single crystal cementite...

Increasing Carbon Percentage of Hoganas Sponge Iron

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Niknahad, Niusha (Author) ; Halali, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The sponge iron of the Hoganas process have a high metallization degree (93-96%) and its carbon content is about 0.1%. These characteristics are suitable for powder metallurgy but in order to use this DRI for steelmaking, it needs lower metallization degree and higher content of carbon. First, for using Hoganas sponge iron for steel production, 94% of metallization is adequate as some of iron is still in the form of FeO which its reduction in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) cause better agitation in order to utilize heat transfer. Also, excess carbon content in the DRI can have many advantages other than preventing the sponge iron from re-oxidation. Some of the carbon can be in the form of Fe3C...

A New Method Based on Crystal Plasticity Finite Element to Predict the Formability of Steel Sheets with Spheroidal Cementites

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Einolghozati, Mona (Author) ; Assempour, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, using the crystal plasticity finite element method, the effects of various microstructural features on behavior of spherical steel sheets have been investigated. The cementite phase ratio, the grain sizes of ferrite and cementite, and the percentage of residual pearlite in the steel structure due to incomplete annealing are the major microstructural parameters studied in this work. A grain generator software has been developed to generate ferrite grains as well as cementite particles distributed in the ferrite matrix. A hard coating with special properties as an intermediate layer around the cementite grains has been considered to simulate the contact between ferrite grains...
