Chatter Phenomena Prediction in Two-dimensional Milling Process from Chip Formation by Using Finite Element Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tavassoli, Meysam (Author) ; Movahhedy, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Chattering in cutting process is one of the destructive phenomena in machining, which results in ripple of workpiece surfaces. In this phenomenon, the displacement of the tool tip moves towards instability and the tool vibration continues. Eventually, the tool jumps or breaks out with relatively large shear forces, which leads to a reduction in the rate of production and machining. Since machining processes are very widespread, phenomenological studies of chatter have progressed in the field of modeling and empirical experiments. Research in the field of modeling is mainly intended to examine the dynamics of the tool in two ways: analytic and finite element. In these methods, there are...

Design and Implementation of Condition Monitoring in Cloud Manufacturing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mashhadi Alipour, Arash (Author) ; Akbari, Javad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Tool condition Monitoring is done with the aim of reducing the cost and production time along with protect the quality of the machined product and the life of the tool. In this study, using the PCB333B30 vibration sensor and USB-4431 data logger and MATLAB software, the tool conditions in the milling process was examined. The selected feature is to monitor the status of the chatter. The data extracted from the sensor after processing was sent to a cloud user interface that designed on a website. The purpose of this study is to develop a system in which the user can observe the conditions of the tool (chatter occurrence) in real-time, over time and over place, just by access the...

Comparison of Active and Passive Control for Suppressing the Vibration of Regenerative Chatter in Nonlinear Milling Process: Application for Machining of Nonlinear Cantilever Plates

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nasiri, Keyvan (Author) ; Moradi, Hamed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most important processes in the manufacture of mechanical parts in the industry is the machining process. High-speed milling is growing in aerospace, automotive, and many other industries due to advantages such as high material removal rates and better surface finish. However, the instability caused by self-excited vibration (chatter) is not only one of the main limitations for the productivity and quality of the workpiece but also reduces the life of machines and tools. In this research, after introducing the matter of milling flexible parts, the basic concepts of machining are first described, and common terms in machining are explained. Then, a review of past research has been...
