, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kokabi, Amir Hossein (Supervisor) ; Dolati, Abolghasem (Supervisor)
Abstract
Dilution is a parameter with significant effects in SMAW process. As this factor is in a range of 25-35% in SMAW process, it can increase the portion of base metal in the weld metal. During cladding carbon steel by stainless steel, this parameter causes reaching different composition as the number of weld rows increases. The aim of this project firstly is to investigate the effects of this parameter and then achieving the same properties in different welding rows. Suggested electrodes are as follows; E316-L16 three-row, KST 309-L16 for two-row and KST 310-16 for one-row welds. Corrosion behavior of each clad have been studied and the results show that; although by changing the electrodes the...

Abstract
In this study, utilizing the so-called “flow forming”, a cold-bonding process is developed to produce multi-layered thin-walled tubes and cylinders. In this process, which is entitled as “spin-bonding”, two layers of tubes are bonded by thickness reduction. Al/Al and Cu/Al tubes were bonded at various temperatures, thickness reductions, feed rates and roller attack angles. The bonding quality was examined by peel test, metallography and SEM fractography. Moreover, spin-bonding was accumulatively applied to aluminum tubes up to 4 cycles as a severe plastic deformation (SPD) for thin-walled tubes and cylinders entitled as “Accumulative Spin-Bonding” (ASB). Beside of experimental works,...
Experimental and Numerical Study of Multi-track Laser Cladding to Evaluate Effects of Residual Stress on Fatigue Life
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Movahhedy, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Farrahi, Gholam Hossein (Supervisor) ; Shodja Razavi, Reza (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Laser cladding is a processing technique of layer-by-layer material deposition which is widely used to repair important components. However, tensile residual stresses generated in this process may result in detrimental effects such as crack, undesirable deformation and reduced fatigue life. A thermo-mechanical finite element model is developed to accurately predict residual stresses of the multiple beads laser cladding process with incorporating the cyclic plasticity into the analysis by utilizing the nonlinear kinematic hardening behavior. FE results are presented for Inconel 718, a material for which the laser cladding process is widely used. The FE results are compared with those of...
Strengths and Weaknesses of Different Types of Claddings
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The present study was conducted to provide an overview of engineers and employers to select the best exterior procedure of the facade by examining the influential factors and the advantages and disadvantages of each facade in terms of construction. Therefore, to select the most efficient type of facade for each project, the types of external facade procedures have been examined from different perspectives. In this study, to obtain the results of the questionnaires, a statistical population of 100 people consisting of engineers was used to collect information. These questionnaires are defined around the factors influencing the facade's choice (economic, human, sustainable, and technological...
Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of Cold Roll Welding for Production of Aluminum Clad Steel Sheet
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Karimi Taheri, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Aluminum coated steel sheet is an excellent composite material in which; the strength and economy of steel and durability of aluminum are combined. This material is produced by several methods. However, there are two main technologies to produce aluminized steel sheets: 1) the hot dip method and 2) the aluminum clad method (cold roll welding process). The hot dip method is most widely used for producing the aluminum coated steel. The aluminum coated steel sheet manufactured by this method is believed to be inferior to an aluminum sheet with respect to surface appearance, corrosion resistance and formability of the coated metal. Consequently, the aluminum clad steel method is one of the most...
