Synthesis and Biocompatibility Evaluation of TiO2/Pyrolytic Carbon Core/Shell

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Behzadi, Shahed (Author) ; Simchi, Abdolreza (Supervisor) ; Imani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Carbon-based thin films possess low friction coefficient, low surface roughness, chemical inertness and outstanding biocompatibility. In the present work, TiO2 nanoparticles were covered by a thin film of pyrolytic carbon (PyC) to provide a core-shell morphology. The PyC film was deposited by dehydrogenation of methane in a fluidized bed chemical vapour deposition (FBCVD) reactor at 1100 °C. The prepared specimens were characterized by various analytical methods including XRD, SEM, TEM, AFM, TGA and contact angle measurement techniques. Biocompatibility profiles of the resulting materials were evaluated using MTT and cell cycle assay. The results showed that the thin carbon film strongly...

Active Constrained Clustering Using Instance-Level Constraints Ranking

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Abin, Ahmad Ali (Author) ; Beigy, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cluster analysis is one of the basic tools for exploring the underlying structure of a given data set. It is being used in a wide variety of engineering and scientific disciplines. It can be broadly defined as the process of dividing a set of objects into clusters, each representing
a meaningful sub-group of data. Clustering techniques require the definition of a similarity measure between patterns. This similarity measure is not easy to specify in the absence of any prior knowledge about cluster shapes. Recently, constrained clustering has been emerged as an efficient approach for data clustering and learning the similarity measure between patterns. It has become popular because it can...

Finding the Kernel in an Unknown Polygon by a Robot with Minimal Sensing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haratian, Saeed (Author) ; Ghodsi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, we want to find a point of the kernel in an unknown star-shaped polygon by a robot with minimal sensing, such that the path is not far from the optimum path. The robot has a gap sensor which detects the dicontinuities (gaps) in its visibility polygon and detects the direction of gaps. The robat can move toward or against these gaps. Also, the robot has a compass, and detects the North, the West, the South and the East. The robot detects the position of gaps between these directions, and also, can move along these directions. In this research, we present an on-line algorithm, by which this robot can find a point of the kernel in an unknown star-shaped polygon. The...

The Assessment of Irregular Mid-Rise Steel Structures with Outriggers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mahdi, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Mofid, Masood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The system considered on this structure is for the design on mid-high Buildings from 15 and 20 floors above the base level and n floors below the base level and the limitation of the number of floors is due to the computer facility and restrictions. There is going to be an irregularity in some chosen floor at lower-floor, mid-floor, or upper-floor which is assuming one floor from the structure to have a different height with respect to the others. The height of the considered floor is going to increase up to 25% with respect to the other floors and the design of outriggers with these three assumptions is going to be assessed separately. In this system, a central core of steel is constructed...
