Static Melt Crystallizer Simulation and Design with CFD
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Farhadi, Fathollah (Supervisor) ; Pishvaei, Mahmood Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Layer melt crystallization is one of the most attractive and productive separation methods in the chemical industry. One of the most important coal tar components, which is present in concentration between 10 to 12% is naphthalene. One of the most commonly used techniques for producing naphthalene crystallization. In this thesis, the layer melt crystallization in a mixture of naphthalene and benzothiophene has been investigated using computational fluid dynamics. The simulation of crystallization was performed in Comsol Multiphisics version 5.6 and the thickness of the crystal layer was obtained according to the time. At first, simulation results were verified with the labroratory results of...
Proposal of an Optimized ZLD System for Mine Effluent and Investigation of Valuable Material Extraction
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sattari, Sourena (Supervisor)
Abstract
The aim of this study is to design a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) treatment plant for mine effluent. For this purpose, wastewater from an iron ore mine was selected as a case study. Initially, recent studies on ZLD systems were reviewed, and a technically feasible process was designed to treat mine effluent with a ZLD approach. The designed process was then simulated using Aspen Plus software, and the results were utilized for an economic analysis. The simulation was performed under three design scenarios: (1) using external steam for energy supply, (2) utilizing waste heat, and (3) employing a steam compressor to superheat the saturated steam exiting the evaporative crystallizer and using...
