Numerical and Experimental Study of Produced Water from Moist Air by Cooling via the Thermoelectric

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Behzad (Author) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, as a result of population growth and groundwater resources pollution, many countries in the world are facing serious water crises. Several alternative solutions have been investigated to overcome this obstacle. Atmospheric water vapor processing (AWVP) is a new solution to generate freshwater from ambient moist air. The atmosphere surrounding the earth is potentially a valuable water resource which contains a large amount of freshwater. This paper addresses the effectiveness of thermoelectric coolers (TECs) for refrigeration to produce freshwater from ambient air. Consequently, both numerical and experimental analysis are then used as the basis of water production calculation. 18...

Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of the Wetted Air Dehumidification by Supersonic Separator

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Majidi, Davood (Author) ; Farhadi, Fathollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Supersonic separators (3Ss) are used in gas separation processes such as dehumidification of humid air thanks to their high performance and good pressure recovery. Moreover, 3Ss because of their simple mechanical construction and absence of any environmental impact are preferred to other dehydration methods of natural gas, such as adsorption, cooling, and membrane. Also using the 3Ss for relatively large facilities with considerable investment is more than evident. In the first phase of present study, 2-D simulation is performed to investigate the effect of operational and thermo-physical parameters on shockwave position in a specially conceived wet air 3S. Moreover, the effect of cyclonic...

Experimental Investigation of an Evaporative Condenser-Based Combined Heat Pump and Humidification-Dehumidification Desalination System

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Faegh, Meysam (Author) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The present thesis aimed to study a novel heat pump integrated humidification-dehumidification (HDH-HP) desalination system. A theoretical outline was proposed for the first time to examine the design and off-design performance of HDH-HP cycles via the compressor characteristics method. In this regard, the variations in heat pump performance were modeled in different operating conditions for a fixed-size system. To fabricate a compact HDH-HP system, an evaporative condenser was designed and used instead of a separate humidifier, heater, and air/water-cooled condensers find in previous HDH-HP systems. Meanwhile, the air dehumidification process in this work directly occurred inside the heat...
