Nano-Zeolite Synthesis Adsorbents for Removal of Mercaptanes from the Butane and the Propane

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khosravanian, Abdollah (Author) ; Soltanieh, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Shayegh, Flora (Supervisor) ; Soltanali, Saeed (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this study nano zeolite was hydrothermally synthesized in order to remove ethyl and methyl mercaptans from propane and butane stream. Fifteen experimental runs were conducted using D-Optimal method experimental design to synthesize NaY, NaX and NaA zeolites. The products were characterized by measuring the morphology, particle and crystal size, surface area, adsorption isotherm, pore size, and pore volume of the products by XRD, FE-SEM, TEM and BET analyses. The pore size for NaA type zeolites is about 4 Angstrom whereas the molecular size for ethyl mercaptan and methyl mercaptan is between 4 and 5 Angtrom, Therefore, NaA zeolite is inappropriate for removing ethyl and methyl mercaptans...

    Abstract
Gas pollutants are included volatile inorganic compositions and odorous materials, which are harmful and dangerous for environment and human health. There are several methods for removing gas pollutants such as physical, chemical and biological methods. In this work, we discuss about ethyl-mercaptan adsorption in LPG by ZSM-5 zeolite and in use of micro systems (micro channels). This work is also concerned about micro channel coating by ZSM-5 and NaY zeolites on glass and the method of coating with (3-Chloropropyl) trimethoxysilane linker. After selecting the appropriate method for zeolite coating, we proceed to micro channel coating. In this research, four different designs of micro channel...

Design of Adsorption Pretreatment Unit of Natural Gas Feed for LNG

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sheikh Alivand, Masoud (Author) ; Farhadi, Fatholah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the present study, simultaneous adsorption of water, mercaptans, carbon dioxide and heavy hydrocarbons on three layers bed, namely Activated Alumina, 4A and 13X Molecular Sieve, on PTSA process is designed and simulated for LNG production. The level of water and mercaptan should be decreased to less than 0.1 ppmv at the bottom of zeolite 4A and 3 ppmv at the bottom of zeolite 13X layer respectively. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamic simulation of multi-component adsorption on a multi-layer bed and to predict the effect of different operational variables on adsorption performance. Multi-layer bed decreases the investment cost and operational challenges in...

Reaction Modeling of Mercaptan Conversion to H2S and Hydrocarbons over ZSM-5 Catalysts in Microreactor

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ayatizadeh Tanha, Maryam (Author) ; Kazemeini, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Microfluidic devices carry fluids in channels with the diameter in the scale of micrometers. Low consumption of raw materials, higher selectivity, enhancement of heat and mass transfer, and improved safety considerations are benefits of the application of microfluidic devices. In this venue, catalytic microreactors get high potential in the filed of the catalytic reaction. In recent years due to strict international environmental regulations, the sulfur content in fossil fuels should be at the minimum content. MEROX process is to most common route to remove mercaptan from the LPG dreams in the material gas refineries. However, in this process, the production of DiSulfid Oil (DSO) is a...
