Efficient Hardware Implementation of ECG Derived Respiration (EDR) System, Applied to Body Area Network (BAN)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shayei, Ali (Author) ; Shabany, Mahdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The rapid growth in the health care technology, has made the Body Area Network (BAN) as an attracting topic for research and design development. BAN devices have restrictions on their size and power consumption. Monitoring the respiratory signal is crucial in many medical applications and is normally part of a BAN system. Traditional methods for the respiration measurement are normally based on measuring the volume of air inhaled and exhaled by lungs (like a spirometer) or oxygen saturation in blood. However, these methods have numerous drawbacks including their high cost and limited accessibility. In this thesis, a novel scheme is proposed to derive the respiratory signal from the...

Extraction of Respiratory Information from ECG and Application on the
    Apnea Detection

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Janbakhshi, Parvaneh (Author) ; Shamsollahi, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Respiration signal is one of the biological information required to monitor patient respiratory activities. Noninvasive respiratory monitoring is an extensive field of research, which has seen widespread interest for several years. It is well known that the respiratory activity influences electrocardiographic measurements (ECG) in various ways. Therefore, different signal processing techniques have been developed for extracting this respiratory information from the ECG, namely ECG derived respiratory (EDR). Potential advantages of such techniques are their low cost, high convenience and the ability to simultaneously monitor cardiac and respiratory activity. One of the aims of this thesis is...

Hardware Implementation of Wearable Cuff-less Blood Pressure Monitoring Module

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kiani, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Shabany, Mahdi (Supervisor) ; Mohammadzade, Hoda (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Hypertension precvalence is 24 and 20.5 percent in men and women, respectively. Continuous Blood Pressure monitoring can provide invaluable information about individuals’ health conditions. However, BP is conventionally measured using inconvenient cuff-based instruments, which prevents continuous BP monitoring. This work presents an efficient algorithm, based on the Pulse Arrival Time (PAT), extracted from Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Photopletysmograph (PPG), for the continuous and cuff-less estimation of the Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP), Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP), and Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) values. Methods: The proposed framework estimates the BP values through processing vital...

    Abstract
Continuous Blood Pressure monitoring can provide invaluable information about individuals’ health conditions. However, BP is conventionally measured using inconvenient cuff-based instruments, which prevents continuous BP monitoring. This work presents an efficient algorithm, based on the Pulse Arrival Time (PAT), for the continuous and cuff-less estimation of the Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP), Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP), and Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) values. The proposed framework estimates the BP values through processing vital signals and extracting two types of features, which are based on either physiological parameters or whole-based representation of vital signals. Finally, the...

Evaluating the Effect of CPAP Pressure in Patient with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Using Heart Rate Variability

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi Mousavi, Mohammad (Author) ; Vosoughi, Gholamreza (Supervisor) ; Arjmand, Navid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is a standard treatment for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a sleep-related breathing disorder characterized by full or partial occlusion of the upper airway during sleep. CPAP pressure adjust by a sleep technologist during attended laboratory polysomnography (PSG) to eliminate obstructive respiratory-related events (apneas, hypopneas). Because of changes in environment and lifestyle patients needed new adjustments for the device that brings discomfort and extra money for treatment. In recent, lots of methods have been proposed to replace PSG and minimized the number of biological signals to detect apnea, best results came from deep...
